PS4 Getting Zombie Survival MMO H1Z1

Free-to-play game officially confirmed for PlayStation 4; "early access" version of PlanetSide 2 PS4 will launch this year.

Sony Online Entertainment's free-to-play zombie game H1Z1 is coming to PlayStation 4, the developer confirmed during its recently concluded SOE Live 2014 event. This isn't too much of a surprise, as SOE president John Smedley teased back in May that a PS4 version could happen.

SOE did not announce a release date for the PS4 version of H1Z1.

H1Z1 is not the only free-to-play game from SOE headed to PS4, as Sony announced last year that PlanetSide 2 is coming to the console. After a delay, the game is now expected to launch on the platform later this year (more on that later). SOE also developed DC Universe Online, which is currently available on PS4.

Inspired by DayZ and The Walking Dead, H1Z1 was announced earlier this year. It launches for PC through Steam Early Access later this year, though a specific release date for that version has not been announced. H1Z1 on PS4 will go up against the console version of DayZ, which creator Dean Hall announced last week during Sony's Gamescom briefing.

Also during SOE Live, the company announced that PlanetSide 2 will be available on PS4 later this year as an "early access" game, meaning an unfinished version of the final product. Last month, Sony said it was looking into allowing developers to release in-progress versions of their games. It makes sense that this program, or some version of it, would begin with a Sony-owned game that the company has control of.

Ugh. I am soooo tired of Zombie games. A genre I am beginning to hate. And it's F2P. Don't see myself spending too much time on this one.

I just see Free to Play and instantly lose interest. Free to Play games end up more expensive than full priced AAA titles. This won't be any different.

I really don't get why people love early access. Except for the decent price discount, where is the joy in playing unfinished broken buggy games. I've read a lot of reviews on steam where it sounds like the e.a. Killed their enjoyment of the game.

Eh, to each their own

the title alone, and sotryline at a glance seem's a lot like the collage nurf tag event called human's versus zombie's where part of the back story of the event was the H1N1 (note the n turned onto side to make a z) viral contaminent started turning people into zombie's, the napa junior collage branch of the event's facebook page can be found over at https://www.facebook.com/hvznvc

one thing i have learned about gamers in my years, they are so negative and spoiled......they think game companies owe them something. case in point, shareplay for the ps4...like babies they cry because they may have to resend an invite after 1 hr....the f-ing horror! f2p must suck because it's free...wrong! it's a money maker with more content than a pay to play game cause the devs make the money from content. war thunder, black light retribution and planet side 2 are perhaps some of the best gaming online today....but please start whining about it, losers!

Ready for H1Z1, it's barely in competition with that hiking Sim they call DayZ

My experience with free-to-play games:

1.  They are extremely lacking in content and have as much depth as Temple Run.

2.  They are buggy as hell and will remain that way for a couple years, sometimes longer.

3.  Both 1 and 2.

I don't see how the "but it's free so who cares" argument is valid if the game can't stand on its own.  DayZ definitely falls under category 3 for me.  It's an awesome concept, but there was no sense of advancement and it was so glitchy.  I don't know if it got much better after the standalone came out, but it was one of those games where I wish I could get that time back.  I bit the bullet and bought the early access game 7 Days to Die and that's way better than DayZ ever was, even though 7DTD is a bit glitchy still.

Just keep in mind that if you get H1Z1 you will be getting what you paid for.  Personally, I would rather spend my time on other games.

Surprised the title wasn't "PS Quadruple is in the H1ZZY!"  :P

Aren't they doing cross-platform play for PS2?

Noooooo!  Not early-access garbage please!  This stuff is totally destroying Steam.  I thought Sony had better quality control and would not allow this thing on their system.  I am very disappointed Sony.  Is it really necessary to sellout like this?

@alcky13 I don't know about you, but free to play games are free...
Unless you have an uncontrollable lust to spend money or to be better than everyone else, you should not need to spend more money on those games. Mobile F2P games are a different story obviously, but thinking back on all the F2P games that I have played on either console or PC, I have not spent a dime on F2P (Unless of course I found the game amazing and wanted to support the developer, but that is my own choice).

I don't really get all the complaints that F2P games, on console or PC at least, end up costing more than a AAA 60$ game. Personally I have no problem with H1Z1 being F2P because it is basically a DayZ-like game that sounds like it will have a lot more features to it. I don't know how Sony plans on making money off of the game, but unless they make it so you can only play for a limited amount of time when you get it for free (which wouldn't necessarily be a F2P game), than there should really be no excuse for anyone to complain about paying more than a $60 for the game, as that would be no ones fault but your own. Of course they could make it a Pay 2 Win game, but, yet again, it would be your own choice to spend that money, and I'm sure that if they did do that, not too many people would download the game in the first place.

@alcky13 H1Z1 is by SOE, also the creators of the game didn't want the game to become a pay to win either, all the stuff you can buy would be wear-ables or things you can already get in the came naturally.

@CallMeDuraSouka I agree, paying someone to beta test their games is ridiculous.  I must be getting old..

@straightcur They said they're only gonna be putting cosmetics and things that don't affect gameplay (emoticons for chat etc.) as paid content.

You really undermine your message when you end it with things like, "losers!"

I agree with you otherwise.

Why not early access? If you don't like it...just don't get it and wait for the full release.

@smokeless_0225 Some of those early access games never get a full release, or they greatly delay the full release because they already got their money. I can see AAA publishers using this model to fund new games and never finish the previous one. It's just not a trustworthy model.

@nyzma23 Planetside 2 is a free to play and same with DCUO, but you do need to buy DLC which is a good deal since the game is already free.

Too-DementeD
Too-DementeD

@nyzma23 @Too-DementeD @straightcur Yeah, but they never said they weren't gonna put a paywall in those games, while they said they aren't going to for H1Z1.

They might go back on their word and put up a paywall, but I'm just going on what they're saying, which is that they're only planning microtransactions for cosmetic items, not things that mess with the game.

grenadehh

@Barighm @smokeless_0225 As opposed to usual where they release unfinished games and SAY they are finished, and they get their money either way. Basically, would you like to be told you're being bufu'd and see it, or be told you aren't and not see.

What's the problem? There will be two options. Free to play h1z1. Then DayZ. They have you covered either way unless you don't own a ps4.
