PS4 game Infamous: Second Son requires 24GB install

Install size revealed for Sucker Punch's upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive.

by

Upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive Infamous: Second Son will require a 24GB install, according to an image of the game's official European box sleeve posted on the PlayStation forums.

By comparison, PlayStation 3 game Infamous 2 clocked in at 14GB, according to the game's product page on the Sony Entertainment Network website. Of course, the PS4 allows you to start playing before downloads are complete, thanks to its new PlayGo system.

One of the biggest PS4 games so far is Killzone: Shadow Fall, which weighs in at a massive 39.7GB and could have been even bigger. The PS4 sports an upgradeable 500GB hard drive, so you'd need to be doing some heavy downloading to max out the system's allotted space.

Infamous: Second Son launches exclusively for the PS4 on March 21. It is the third main entry in the series, following 2009's original Infamous and 2011's Infamous 2. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

500GB is nothing.. I have so much stuff recorded for PlayTV that I barely have much space left. I have to keep deleting *sigh*

this spring, it will come down to Titanfall vs Infamous SS (X1 vs PS4 battle)..., think Titanfall will produce a bigger hype.., but Titanfall will be solde more on the 360 and the grafix fetishisten will play it on the PC ..

so Titafall vs  Infamous SS just might end with a tie.....

(but multiplayer shooters are something, that can sell like crazy..., look at CODs & Co...., wonder if Titanfall will have selling impact like L4D or COD.., prefer L4D over COD, but the sales prefer COD over L4D)

How is that news? Who cares how much space it takes up? 5GB or 50GB...I still think this game is shaping up to be something really special.

First thing I did before even turning on my PS4 was drop in a 1TB drive. Upgrading is too easy not to do if you're concerned. I know I'll be focusing on downloaded games (vs. Disc-based) so that I can play them on other Playstation 4 systems and share them with family easier. I already have a 750GB drive on my PS3, loaded with movies and games and nearing capacity so not immediately upgrading my PS4 seems like a no-brainer. Splitting the cost of games with my brother who lives 150 miles away and sharing them seems relatively logical by having multiple accounts on our PS4's.

Way to invent news.  Who cares? 24GB is chicken scratch.

the problem wont be the 24 GB's

but the fact that the game is too easy ,even when playing on expert..

(german top reviewer are critsizing that...., hope sucker punch will have enough time for some balancing tweeks till it's released...., nothing worse than a "too easy" game, look at Fable 3...even if the tweeked the A.I. in I2ndson..)

Finally.. the Blu-Ray is capable of 50 gigs its about time they start utilizing the disc space!!!!!!

I'd bet my bottom dollar the first revamped PS4 will have at least twice as big a hard drive, I can wait.

I actually thought it would be more, considering that Knack is 37gb.

Guess that initial sub-400gb ps4 hard drive will be useless to any real gamer with mandatory installs this big. I like The One's upcoming ability to install games on a usb hard drive, which will let you actually ADD to the existing drive it comes with.

thats small, compared to some of the other games

Why is this news? Are we going to get this for every upcoming game.

Next is TF takes 720mb.

GameSpot's Infamous 2 review, one of the many click-bait reviews that GameSpot has posted. And you thought Last of Us was the only review that Sony fans got pissed off at.

I'm already running low on hd space, I just don't understand why so much space is needed when my ps3 has multiple titles I can play without this issue and its ony 250 gig. Guess it will be something they fix in time.

Wow.  This was almost news

tomtomtom1230

This is much smaller than I thought it would be. Perhaps they're using a more efficient file compression system? I don't know. I'm banking on even larger games (potentially the Witcher 3) being around a 50GB install. But who knows, I was proven wrong here.

this is actually pretty good considering knack took 37 gigs.

nice little sneaky trick here by sony..... put a huge install so it ends up being a hassle to those who would want to rent it for 4 bucks and beat it.

Just remember the time when games came on one CD which were less than 700mb.

To be honest many will buy this game because we dont have much else to play..... I liked the first entry but the second was pretty average imo. I dont have huge hopes for this game to be honest i might grab thief instead and get this game later but i will for sure give this a run.

i completely ignored this one after the , for me, very disappointing 2nd output and the whole superpower idea started to go on my nerves ( the latest saints row totally overdid ) ... This is the first video i see of it and i am not sure if it is for the lack of games at the moment but i am going to order this now !

Upgraded my PS4 to the Seagate 1Tb SSHD day one, and I'm glad I did.  Much faster and more space.  I am hoping in a couple of years there will be a 2Tb version of this drive that I can upgrade to.  Only had the console since December and it's already used up 400Gb.

Bowser05
Bowser05

@rickphoenixxx  Not sure I agree with that. How many people really need to keep 100% of their games installed? A lot of these games we can delete since we won't be inadvertantly switching between our whole library every day.

Bowser05
Bowser05

@Uncle_Rell  Except we know TF is more than 720MB because the Beta was a couple gigs or so. Anyway...to be fair when there is a lull in interesting news sites have to find SOMETHING to report on.

robEZ8

@Uncle_Rell  This may not qualify as important or newsworthy, but at least it gives us a break from the unimportant, non-newsworthy "PS4 sels more than XB1" and "1080p vs 720p" which get 2 or 3 new iterations each week

@chev7781  If its Tom "Hipster" McShea reviewing it.  Then expect a troll score.  Why Gamespot let him review games is beyond me

@drknessfeeds  Next Gen buddy. In order to provide the technological leaps...more memory is being used. This has been happening with technology from the beginning. The average PS1 game? 400MB. The average PS2 game? 2GB. The average PS3 game? 8GB. The average PS4 game? 25GB. Even that isn't huge. My newest PC games average about 30GB per install. This is perfectly normal. Games will only get bigger and bigger as time goes on. I think Sony's biggest mistake was to include a 500GB HDD instead of 1TB. Same with Microsoft.

Tielo1

@drknessfeeds
I hope you understand this is something that can't be "fixed". Due to the higher resolution the game needs to use bigger textures. Bigger, uncompressed, more beautiful graphics results in larger files and because of that larger games.
Although the blu-ray in the PS4 is fast (much faster then the Xbox one) it's still necessary to load the textures as fast as possible in memory and the fastest way to do that is from a hard disk.

xxmavr1kxx
xxmavr1kxx

@drknessfeeds  If you want better textures, lghting, etc it takes up more space. Resolution increase isn't the only thing going on here.

xxmavr1kxx

@monson21502  Did you even play any next gen games. This is low compared to other games out currently.

@monson21502  lol i am sure it isn't the high resolution textures and other hi def assets rounding up the size.

@wallacom  pfft. I remember a time when I played games on floppy disks. Like Commando, Pac-man and Doom

@digitm64  How does the PS4 take advantage of the Hybrid Drive? Does the PS4 automatically install the OS onto the 8GB SSD and then everything else installs on the HDD just like on a PC? I'm curious because from my understanding console architecture is quite different from PC usually.

GH05T-666
GH05T-666

@digitm64  Same, I got the exact some SSHD as you and I hope they make a 2TB SSHD so we can get that coz even 1TB isnt going to be enough.

Bowser05

@toonsim2 @chev7781  I don't understand why him having a different opinion from yours makes him a troll. He almost always has legitimate, well thought out reasons for why he gives these scores. For example, I don't like FF7 or Ocarina of Time, and I can give you a laundry list of legitimate reasons for why I feel that way. Does that mean you have to agree with me? Hell no. In fact I have nothing against people who love these games. I just express his opinion. Why can't he be allowed the same freedom without being attacked left and right. He is under no obligation to give a game a high score because YOU think it's good and because the 'industry' thinks it's good. It's actually very important to have dissenting opinions so that we can better understand the flaws of games. The people who give high reviews almost always skip over the flaws because they feel like the good outweighs the bad.

@mjonk2pc @meedokickyah okay. I was wondering, since some games work just fine.

Well I actually am intending to buy a PS4, was waiting for infamous SS, and I heard there will be a bundle for it so might as well wait for that :)

mjonk2pc
mjonk2pc

@meedokicky I don't think it is your HDD. Replacing it in the PS3 with a SSD or hybrid will help with texture loading and stuff like that but my games on PS3 do the same thing at times. I think it's just the nature of the PS3 and programming difficulties for developers. Which is why I'm so happy that Sony made the PS4 the way they did. If you haven't used a PS4 yet, you need to try it. It's amazingly fast and I have only had two errors on it. One time it kicked me out of a match on Killzone and the other was right after I brought it out of standby. Neither time did it need to be restarted or reset. Just click on the send error report and then OK. Back to gaming in a couple seconds.

meedokicky
meedokicky

@mjonk2pc wow good :) Thank you , I will consider getting one when I buy a PS4.

I have a 250 GB HDD in my PS3, and some games on it stutter (like Borderlands 2 and DmC). not sure if it is from the games or the HDD is damaged.

mjonk2pc
mjonk2pc

Around $110 for the 1 tb. It's definitely worth it though. Twice the storage and it's way, way faster. Killzone loads up in about 5 second now compared to around 17 seconds before. Ps4 was fast before, now it's just amazing
