PS4-exclusive The Order: 1886 promises "no disconnect" between cinematics and gameplay

God of War developer's next game leverages power of PS4 to create new level of visual fidelity, creative director says.

by

For God of War developer Ready at Dawn's next project, the neo-Victorian The Order: 1886, there will be "no disconnect" between cinematics and gameplay, the studio has claimed. In a new PlayStation Access video, Ready at Dawn creative director and cofounder Ru Weerasuriya explained that this is possible thanks to the technical power of the PlayStation 4.

"With the PS4 we're able to have this seamless transition between cinematics and gameplay and not lose anything at all between the two," Weerasuriya said. "More often than not a lot of games have a tendency to do pre-rendered cinematics and moving to gameplay and suddenly it's not really the same thing. It's close, but it's not quite there. For us, there is no disconnect between the two. What you see is what you get."

You can see for yourself in the PlayStation Access interview/gameplay trailer, which also familiarizes players with The Order: 1886's setting, characters, and lore. The game features four main characters, but you'll only be able to play as one of them: Galahad.

"We did not want to dilute the message by having all these different storylines having to meld into one single major plot," Weerasuriya said. He noted, however, that the three other main characters will have a "big part to play" in the overall storyline.

Ready at Dawn also released a new story trailer for The Order: 1886 today (below), which sets up the game's story and characters. For more on the game, due out later in 2014, check out GameSpot's just-published preview.

Its probably gonna be filled with interactive quick time events that suck during cut-scenes

How does this game look like Gears of War? The Order 1886 looks way better. (In my opinion)

Already love the Alternate history, lore and mythology of this game. It's not just another generic TPS it's a lot more. Also best looking exclusive graphically I've seen.

Visuals. Gameplay. Plot. All of these things are still pretty much an unknown quantity. But what I really, really want to know is just how the hell I pronounce that guy's last name. :-P

I'm still intrigued by this game, but until we know more and see some gameplay I can't get excited by it.

Looks great. This might make my collector's edition list (if there is one).

I wasn't really excited for this this game...until today. I am very interested to see how it turns out. It's different than most games out. I can't for more news about this game to come out.

Until then...bring Infamous and MLB14 :)

Looks great so far, hope they don't dull the game by concentrating on visuals and forget the fun factor.

Cover shooter with QTEs, 50% CGI cinematics and no co-op or multiplayer....  and to think they took the p*ss out of Ryse: Son of Rome...

looks great and it's not FPS. I'm bit sad though, i was hoping to see a full game-play demo. can't wait for that day.

This game looks great and promising. But I hope that due to it being linear and not offering co op or any multi-player it won't suffer the same wear off after one run through that God of War. Hopefully it won't.

I love that whole industrialized setting where you hear the metal clank all the time.

No multiplayer when they had every chance to force a shitty multiplayer upon the game like many other developers? These guys know what they are doing.

Ouch, it's time to be nervous about this game.  No multiplayer and 30 fps.

I don't see Titanfall level of excitement here.  In fact, it looks quite boring.

When they show FMV instead of gameplay - it's time to get nervous.

@PlatinumPaladin  how are visuals unknown the game play video clearly showed the visuals and they are top notch

@TwinStripeUK Hey I think Ryse Graphically is amazing but the story and gameplay is meh. But that is just me I guess :P. Let just waited it out and see if it's gonna live it up to the hype or not :)

@Sevenizz  Don't care about MP for this game...as long as the store and campaign are good.

@Sevenizz I love how xboners create this fake "level of excitement" for TitanFAIL. If you ask any average person what Titanfall is they will think its about Greek Mythology but I bet they will know what Halo is. And I say Xboners because according to preorders, 360 owners aren't too excited about TitanFAIL as much as Xboners because that's all you guys have for awhile. If I want to shoot mindless AI bots that do nothing I will put COD combat training at the easiest level. 6 v 6 nothing new. Nice try xbot.

@Sevenizz  You need to watch the leaked gameplay because the gameplay is exactly identical to the FMV. The FMV is rendered in game and what you see will be what you play.

Setho10

@Sevenizz Not to feed an obvious troll, but you are commenting about FMV in an article about how the game doesn't use FMV. Did you actually read the article or just start trolling as soon as you clicked. If you watch the gameplay footage from the link you can clearly see that the trailer was using the in-game engine and that all the sequences featuring actual characters was in fact gameplay.

Hurvl

@Sevenizz Lol, I love FMV, that's my definition of cinematic. In-engine cutscenes typically look quite odd.

@peterdavid12345 @TwinStripeUKStrangely enough, I'm actually disappointed by this even though I don't own a PS4!

Possibly because when I see a game that was revealed at last year's E3 turn out like this, it makes me wonder if Destiny and The Division are going to let me down too!

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

Um, not if you enjoy multiplayer which A LOT of people do.

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

It's probably gonna be game of the year. If you play it - you'd see why the matches are 6v6 and why there's bots.

You can drop the 'I'm a hibrow gamer' anthem. We all play videogames and they are supposed to be mindless entertainment. Your gaming style is no better than a shooter gamer's preference. In fact, one can argue your choices are flawed due to popularity. Most gamers like shooters - numbers don't lie. Have fun with Knack and whatever number Final Fantasy is up to.

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

Except, Titanfall won many critic's award as the best of E3 2013. Sometimes, the hype is real and having played the beta, I can confirm it's fantastic.

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

I'd take a shooter over the boring RPGs from Japan or the dull games disguised as movies Sony specializes in.

WolfGrey

@Sevenizz

Your just a troll. Or a tool or both honestly.

Plenty of actual gamers return to old single player games to play them again. And again. And again. Metro 2033 is one i have returned to quite a few times. On my 3rd run of Bioshock Infinite atm. Sure i enjoy my multiplayer games a great deal(i love POE) but i enjoy my single player experiences on a higher level.

This is looking to be another game in my war chest that i will take out again and again.

Oh and one more thing:

"I love how you're trying to hibrow your gaming choices over mine. We're both playing videogames. They are supposed to be fun and fun is relative so arguing who's having more fun is just stupid."

"In 2014, yes, most games require multiplayer. It extends the life of a game. In these days of 60 dollar games - it had better have something to bring me back. Otherwise, you bought a 60 dollar movie. Why play it again?"

Your a fucking hypocrite, get off your high horse.

Sevenizz

If you have fun with your white-guy/girl-in-peril Sony adventure games, have at it. I'm not gonna stop you. But saying shooters are for stupid people is just dumb. Today's shooter is probably just as complex as your average RPG - in fact, most have RPG elements and are story driven.

thebeachguy90
thebeachguy90

@Sevenizz What's funny about this is that story driven games tend to get higher scores and better reviews from their multiplayer counterparts.  Clearly you're just a casual that knows nothing but run, shoot, run, shoot, run, shoot, run, shoot.  We're a different audience fool.  Don't even try to implement your horrible gaming tastes on us.

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

Future sequels of most of the games mentioned have multiplayer. Denying multiplayer just because you don't enjoy it is just silly. It's also been an important part of videogames since their inception. Combat on the Atari 2600 being a packed in game is a major reason for it's success.

But look who I'm talking to - a silly Sony fanboy defending a triple A title having less features than it should.

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

False - HL2 has multiplayer, since day 1.

96augment
96augment

@Sevenizz If you enjoy multiplayer, that's fine. But to say a game needs multiplayer to be good? What about older games like Resident Evil 4, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the Sims, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Fable, Half Life 2, God of War, Metal Gear Solid, Jak and Daxter, Rachet and Clank, and a bunch of other games I can't even remember? These games aren't good because they have no multiplayer?

96augment
96augment

@Sevenizz None of the games I mentioned had multiplayer aspects. Some of the games's sequels (like Portal 2 and Bioshock 2) did have some type of multiplayer. All of the games that I mentioned were critically acclaimed (Once again, none of them had multiplayer) .

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

I've never played FF7 (not a fan of JRPGs), but I've played through GoW1. Haven't really had a desire to revisit the game or the series. To each his own I suppose.

Thankfully, multiplayer is in most of the good games. If it's not good, that's the developer's fault. But you should never be happy with a game with only a single player aspect. It's a disservice to people who enjoy games socially with their friends - it's also poor value.

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

No, but half of them have multiplayer aspects. Critically acclaimed in a few cases.

96augment
96augment

@Sevenizz Skyrim, Dragon Age: Origins, Bioshock, Portal, Half Life 2, and Rayman: Origins are all 60 dollar movies?

Letrico
Letrico

@Sevenizz  No. Games do not need multplayer at all. The resources spent on trying to make multiplayer work will ruin the singleplayer. Yes it may prolong the life of a game but does it matter? If the game is good you will play it again regardless of it being only singleplayer or not. One example is Final Fantasy 7, it has been replayed and replayed for ages and still people are playing it. That is what defines a good game.

Look at God of War 1, God of War 2 and God of War 3. Do they need multiplayer? Still one of the best games on Playstation that was played countless of time.

Your argument is invalid

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

In 2014, yes, most games require multiplayer. It extends the life of a game. In these days of 60 dollar games - it had better have something to bring me back. Otherwise, you bought a 60 dollar movie. Why play it again?

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

And what do you play that requires extensive brain activity? These are videogames you realize.

The PS4 launched with a shooter - it's a popular genre. Sorry it was medeocre though.

ushio93

@Sevenizz Not every game has to have multiplayer.  There are plenty of other games for you to enjoy if that's what you prefer.

brocklee5000
brocklee5000

Ok then i have a right to bring up the garbage game that is Ryse. Got an average score of like 5.5 maybe. Then theres Max which is much worse then Knack. You want me to pay $60 for those piece of junks?

Plus your a hypocrite. So I can't complain about Titanfall because I havent played it as you say. But you can complain about Knack even though you havent played it. Contradictions all over your arguments.

Oh and who said I havent played it? Just because I said I watched a video? Well im afraid to break it to you but i do have a friend that has both consoles and i have tried all these xbone exclusives as he continually tries to convince me to buy an xbone because all my other friends have a ps4. But nothing on xbone has impressed me. Dr3 is okay but it is not a system seller and gets old quick. So i was disappointed by the alpha videos and guess what i tried the beta and guess what? My disappointments were confirmed. Even my friend didnt like it. He still is going to buy it because he sold all his xbone games for it.

There is no challenge in this game like COD. Theres a point of habing easy to kill grunts and then theres the grunts in titanfall who do nothing but run around. It is actually a distraction sometimes because one i went to kill a couple bots and then i didnt see a pilot coming and he killed me. The few times you actually run into a pilot. And mech vs mech is not funn you get less kills in a mech too. The best part is taking down a mech as a pilot but that is a rare occasion. To sum it up: You might as well play with a bunch of cardboard cutouts buddy. So no titanfall is not good just okay. I rather play COD and BF4.

Sevenizz
Sevenizz

You really have no right to complain about a game you haven't played. 6v6 isn't there due to system or server limitations - it's because you literally trip over other friendly mechs in large scale battles. If the game scores a 9 over a 10, that will most likely be the reason. And the bots are there to give you something to shoot when others are in their mechs. A human vs a mech isn't really a balanced fight and part of the strategy is to avoid them. Hell, I rarely get in a mech - I have mine protect me while I snipe pilots/grunts.

And yes, I do have a right to being up Knack as a negative. It's a tech demo Sony released as a full priced game to sell systems. Sony even later admitted to it not being their highest quality title - yet there it is, on the shelf for 60 bones. What does that say about future 1st party releases?

brocklee5000
brocklee5000

Typical xbot. "Have fun with Knack." Knack Knack Knack Knack Knack, everything is Knack. Just so you know, not many people bought Knack but keep using that lame argument. If I went by the same logic I could say "Have fun with Max and Ryse". And You better not use the other tired argument "Oh ps4 where are the games?" Well where are the games for xbone? Tout Forza and DR3 all you want but we all know you xbots arent really playing them. Sales for those games are garbage. And the top selling games are all multiplats, COD, BF4, Fifa, NBA2k, AC4.

And like i said about Titanfall, COD combat training would give you a better challenge. I thought about getting an xbone just for titanfall but then I watched a video where a guy ran into a room of 5 bots and easily killed all 5 mindless bots without a scratch. Now tell me how that is fun? I guess if you suck at shooters that makes sense.

Letrico
Letrico

@Sevenizz Of course you take shooters. You are a CoD fan that plays nothing but shooters. Now go back to CoD and shout along with other kids
