PS4-Exclusive From Suda 51 Let It Die Is a Free-to-Play Survival Action Game With Asynchronous Online

More details emerge about Suda 51’s latest creation.

PlayStation 4 exclusive Let It Die will be a free-to-play survival action game with an asynchronous online component, according to a press release from publisher GungHo Online Entertainment.

Let It Die was revealed during Sony’s E3 2014 press conference with a bizarre trailer befitting the latest game from the mind of Goichi Suda (Suda 51), but we weren’t really told what it was at the time.

Details are still sparse, but we now know that the enemies in the game will use other players’ data (which accounts for the asynchronous online part), and that you’ll be able take their weapons and clothes to customize your character. At this point, we still don’t know how Let It Die will monetize.

It will be the first game from Suda 51 and developer Grasshopper Manufacture since the studio was acquired by GungHo Online Entertainment (best known for its hugely successful free-to-play mobile game Puzzle & Dragons) and the first PS4 game for both companies. It had a vastly different visual style at the time, but we actually first saw the game at Tokyo Game Show last year, when it was known as Lily Bergamo.

Let It Die is set to release in 2015.

Sony said that it’s committed to making PS4 the best home for free-to-play games during its E3 2014 press conference. Catch up with all the news from that event here.

Sony is making the PS4 the place to be for F2P games,  good to know that they are so dedicated in erasing the lead they got from MS at E3 2014.

GG, Sony.

There's something wrong with this game, and whoever plays it......

More free-to-play, more indies, PS4 is severely lacking, you can't cheap your way all the way through this console generation and expect to make it

Stogin

@UNCStriker88 So more games is a bad thing? You are such a whiny little fanboy it's pathetic, why don't you go to the MS news since all you do in Sony news is whine and bitch?

Free to play; no thanks.

F2p is hated like windows 8 on PC ,when you install and try there's no go back :)

Dam it...

I might be alone with this opinion but I hate free-to-play games...

There always seems like there's a lack of quality to the titles and gameplay is normally very "meh".

I've not played any free-to-play games on the ps4 that I've liked...

sanchango

@corb77 you aren't alone, that seems to be the general consensus(with few people actually liking f2p)

PS4 has a bunch of free to play games already, great job to them for adding variety for gamers.

I see the PS4 outsold Bone 4 to 1 worldwide the last two weeks, including 3 to 1 in America. Ouch!

I am not a huge fan of free to play, but I did spend 30 hours enjoying Warframe, which was the only FTP game I ever got into. Even spent $10 to support the devs.

I'll check this out when it comes out, too. Don't know hardly anything about it yet, though.

@eternal_napalm

I see made-up numbers, but it seems perfectly reasonable that the XB1 would dip some between the time they announced the price drop and when the price drop actually happened.  But your kind don't understand what "reasonable" means.

nikon133

@eternal_napalm F2P can be done right. Couple of my mates are playing Planetside 2 for almost a year without spending a single $... and they are not doing bad at all. Of course they don't have multiple kits for each class unlocked, unlike my friend who has spend above $100 so far, but what they have is very competitive. Paying extra brings quantity, rather than quality.

why are people hating on playstation free 2 play games? Playstations gamers wasn't hating on pc gamers when they were the only one getting awesome f2p games, now since playstation getting free 2 play people hating smh

guitargladiator
guitargladiator

@nikon133 @guitargladiator im probably missing a few but: war thunder,  blacklight retribution, planetside 2, league of legends, combat arms, warframe, dcuo, loadout, hawken, the old republic mmo, tf2,  and tribes ascend

guitargladiator
guitargladiator

@gammagreen @guitargladiator i've played it. and in my opinion it was not worth paying money for, in fact, it wasn't even worth more than a few hours of my time as i got bored fairly quick. i doubt millions of people actually pay money to play it. but how am i wrong? it's my opinion.

xenus_13
xenus_13

@guitargladiator @sampson3121 But isn't that the whole point? You have played all these games without having to spend a penny on them. That is the gamers choice. I play and enjoy a lot of the games you listed but don't feel I need to invest any money into them.

guitargladiator
guitargladiator

@xenus_13 @guitargladiator @sampson3121 the point of what? f2p? no that's to attract a much larger user base because a small portion of millions who pay for extras is more profitable than a small user base who pays a one time fee. if i play a free to play game and spend $0 it's because i don't really enjoy the game and probably won't play it again after a few days. i hope that this doesn't become a bigger trend than it already is because the quality of games suffer when the focus is free to play. if not pay-to-win, it is an uneccessary grind fest in order to try to get you to pay for xp bonuses or weapons, etc. either that or it just lacks features that $60 games have

spacecadet25

Ironic that a F2P game is called "Let it Die", considering the phrase "let it die!" describes so many gamers' sentiment regarding F2P games.

ninja_nuts

It's sounding more and more like the ps4 wants to be like a mobile phone with all its f2p and Indie crap Imo. Glad I sold it and got a Steam account which now boasts 60 games including my recent purchases of Skyrim for 5.00... Morrowind goty for 6.00 and tomb raider 1-9 for 15.00. I've literally spent about 120 in the last month and half and acquired the best collection of games I ever had!

ninja_nuts
ninja_nuts

Of course I do lol.. I don't want to see consoles go f2p and Indie crazy is all. I don't mind the occasional indie (Binding of Isaac) and such.

ninja_nuts
ninja_nuts

Yeah I sold it. I didn't expect it to be as unfinished as it is. I feel both Sony and Microsoft released their console a year and a half to early. In other words I put my money to better use and came out with 60 better games on top of it.. yeah I must be new to gaming lol

BamaGoatt

@ninja_nuts please explain both companies are using f2p models? Sony's other f2p game h1z1 is currently only a pc game but probably will be on ps4.

ninja_nuts

I can only speak about my own personal experience with them that makes me feel this way but take it lightly. My son has spent a numerous amount of money on happy wars for the xbox which instantly turned me off to the whole freemium model. Dcuo, warframe, planetside, War thunder I consider freemium. Sony just seems to be more interested in indies and f2p than your classic AAA's and maybe they should cause it's up 50% in revenue....but my wallet seems to hate it just as much as I do. My son on console f2p games and my wife on mobile f2p games sucks lol. Let's just hope they don't find them on pc cause then it's pull the plug time :) ..again that's just what it feels like to me

brendon9062
brendon9062

What is it with people defending the ps4 on every single article? If someone doesn't like it who cares? Why does it matter to you? If you enjoy it then just ignore the people who don't. Never understood why people get so upset with others who don't have the same likes as them.

ninja_nuts
ninja_nuts

@EasyComeEasyGo @brendon9062 Your right but I have never been unhappy with a PS console at launch as I am with this one, hence the no review before buy. I also buy my Galaxy phones without reviewing them knowing Samsung will put out a quality phone I'll love. Please excuse all the people dumber than you though, not all can be as smart as you come on. Your freakin EasyComeEasyGo yo you know that sheesh

notorious98
notorious98

@ninja_nuts It's pretty simple.  If you don't like them, don't play them.  But the gaming industry, as a whole, seems to be gearing towards that.  As for Sony being more interested in indies and F2P as opposed to AAA games, maybe that's best.  AAA games tend to come from companies that started out as indie developers creating indie games.  Personally, I find that many AAA games become the same generic gaming experience after a while.  Indie games aren't necessarily thinking about their bottom line, so they tend to think outside the box and actually create games.  Most AAA developers are only concerned with making plenty of money, so the tried and true method tends to be their bread and butter.  They rarely attempt to think outside the box.

However, I would say that you're 100% wrong in your assessment.  It's more like there just aren't that many AAA games coming out for either console.  Which isn't a Sony problem.  Let's face it.  How many AAA games can you name that Sony has turned down for their console?

ninja_nuts
ninja_nuts

@notorious98 @ninja_nuts 1st of all I love Sony and I don't think it's just Sony but like what you said, "gaming industry as a whole seems to be gearing towards that" is the feeling I'm getting. I wouldn't have a clue what games Sony or Xbox or anyone has turned down lol. I just want a good balance and right now it doesn't seem like it will ever be that way

delete-easycomeeasygo
delete-easycomeeasygo

@brendon9062 It's not the defending of a console, it's the foolish thing when you spend on a console and a few months past, you sell it. People need to do there research and make sure that this is the right console for you and not just go blindly buy a console on day one. Gamers fall for the hype when Sony and MS release there console last year without doing any research whats-so-ever and later, they ether take there consoles to Pawn Shops ect, just to get back there money they lost. I did my study on what Next-Gen console I want and I pick PS4. I'm enjoying it and no complains.

How would you know wizardjenkins is a Defending PS4? He said new Console.

MattyTheButcher
MattyTheButcher

@ninja_nuts If you're not trolling, then you are just clueless. No new consoles ever have any good games right after launch. Maybe a handful at best. It takes atleast a year for developers to start developing games for them. Happens every generation gap. I hope to god you are trolling, because holy crap sir... please don't ever drive on the same road as me. I would be scared to know it was you in the vehicle near me.

nikon133
nikon133

@ninja_nuts @MattyTheButcher True, they are missing some promised features. Luckily, they do well what I want from console - 5 games I have purchased so far for PS4 work well and reliably, my old PS3 wireless 7.1 headset is supported, new controllers are nicer than previous ones. BD playback is good, too (minus 3D, but I don't have 3D TV anyway). For other multimedia, I use PC anyway... so, me happy. But I get what you're saying.

rzrfst
rzrfst

Lmao yeah so you sold it because it has f2p and indie games yet you went to steam that is 80 % indie and has way more f2p games. And before people start saying that the have a large library of games its still broken down to 80% indie, 10% console ports/multiplatform, 5% pc AAA exclusive(usually a rts or rpg) and the.the.remaining 5% B rank pc exclusive. Now im not knocking steam, I have an account also but to knock ps4 because its supporting indies and f2p also then go and get an account to a system that has way more.of.both of those is laughable. Be real the.console isnt even a year old and most deves didnt get a final development kit till the end of last year, you cant expect a ton of AAA games off the bat.

notorious98
notorious98

@ninja_nuts @notorious98 Then you're spending too much time living in the "now" and not in the future.  With the age of digital downloads, the industry has changed.  You didn't get as many of these indie games with previous iterations of consoles because the true issue became finding a publisher.  That limited your scope to producing computer games that may wind up being ported into a console game.  And, like many ports, they would more likely wind up being shit.  Now, there are far more indie games because publishers aren't as necessary.  So, if the balance you're looking for is more AAA games as opposed to indie games, it's not going to happen.  Now that indie devs have a forum for putting out their games that isn't limited to computers, they are taking advantage of it.  That isn't to say that AAA titles aren't going to come down the pike.  Hell, just look at E3.  MKX, Uncharted 4, Tomb Raider, etc.  On the flip side, look at how many games have been released for both consoles so far.  Titanfall, Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed, Tomb Raider, Infamous, etc. etc.  There will be both sets of games released.  On the whole, console launches are usually terrible.  If you bought your system expecting games to be churning out, you should have done your research.  Blame you.

And, while you may claim to love Sony, you're laying the blame at their doorstep as if it's their fault.

BamaGoatt
BamaGoatt

@ninja_nuts I hear you but why is it the games you are mad at when it's your family wasting your money? If they have a problem help them out cut off the internet and tell them you ran out of money because they buy stuff in free games. They will learn that they can enjoy the game just the same as a free game.

@ninja_nuts @MattyTheButcher  i have one, how do you mean incomplete? i play party style games, i play free games and watch movies. i played the best looking game i have ever seen in second son. i like free 2 play and haven't had any issues with the console so far. love that were getting two free games each month now also. many of the indies i would never have known about is i didn't get it from sony...and i actually really like some of them. most games look next gen to me and i love the fact that on the 31 of july i will be playing ps3 games on the ps now for free. if i like it i will use the service.
