PS4 coming to GameStop Expo

Retailer's annual event dated for August 28 in Las Vegas, promises "in-depth" look at Sony's next-gen console and its launch lineup.

GameStop Expo 2013 will take place in Las Vegas on August 28 and the PlayStation 4 will be on display at the event, the retailer announced today.

Those in attendance will get an "in-depth" look at the PS4 and its launch lineup. No further information about the console's presence at the show was divulged.

Attendees of the one-day event will get to go hands-on with upcoming games and meet with "top game developers," publishers, and unspecified special guests.

GameStop Expo 2013 will be held at the Sands Expo and Convention Center. Earlybird tickets are available now for $35 ($45 after August 11), while a limited number of VIP passes are on sale for $90 ($100 after August 11). VIP tickets include early admittance to the show floor, access to an exclusive lounge, gaming tournament, panel discussions, and a swag bag.

Fans must be 17 years of age or older, or accompanied by an adult, to attend. Registration is currently open via the GameStop Expo 2013 website.

Last year's inaugural GameStop Expo took place in San Antonio, Texas on August 29.

I think by E3 we'll have all the information we'll need.

I consider this Pre-E-3, like a trailer to a movie. Sweet Jesus, I can't wait for E3. It's gonna be cray cray this year.

I'm more interested in the launch line-up than how the console itself looks. As long as it runs and plays good games, that's all that matters.

In saying that, it can't hurt if it looks epic right?

Anywhere but GamesCrap please! Why would anyone walk into that horrible place..

E3 is more of a press event where the media has the first dibs on games; this expo appears to be more gamer centered and will likely be the first time where the average joe will be able to play the PS4.

Was hoping this stuff would appear next month during E3.

"No further information about the console's presence at the show was divulged."

So...everything about the games, the controller, and probably PSN and its services...but not the console itself? Does the thing look like a big turd or something? Are they ashamed to show it?

Take note MS. Even greedy Gamestop supports the PS4 and it's Used games sales.

Gamestop Expo?  I guess instead of showing off new games they make all in attendance bend over and take it in the ass, and then they take all your money.

Isn't this what E3 is for????

So we're going to see what it looks like? Because I'm already excited for the console itself, but I do wonder what it look likes this time around.

A Gamestop Expo? ugh. So it's a bunch of people standing around, not wanting to be there and having no fucking clue about games at all.

?

They better put this out live like the last time, I don't wanna hear it later from someone that ALWAYS makes a mess retelling what they saw.

I think this is a smart  move by Sony to get publicity.   Especially since Microsoft seems to be going the way of no used games for the next Xbox  -- which effectively kills a large part of Gamestop's business.     Gamestop might be hesitant to stock the next Xbox or its games as a result.

Can't wait to see what the PS4 has in store.

No, do not give Gamestop any more recognition, the bigger they get, the worse gamers will have it, when a company has monopoly over the market they can control prices and that is obviously horrifying for Gamestop to be in that position.

Awesome, nothing like the start release of new consoles to get you excited

This helps solidify that the console itself will be shown at E3

Doesn't sound right, I think they will slowly give out information from E3 through Gamescom to TGS.

How the hell could this be a Pre E-3 event when its in Aug???

@TenraiSenshi As long as the launch PS4 is a LOT higher quality than the most recent PS3 refresh then I'll be happy. The super-slim's design is a piece of steaming turd and is very poor quality. Each Sony PS3 refresh/redesign went downwards in overall quality, which isn't a good precedent (although the slim is a good overall compromise of low power/heat and fairly solid quality).

@HonorOfGod Maybe because it's the only major US retailer dedicated to the video game market.

@hippiesanta More like Walmart and you feel that way because its true.. they are both monopolies.

@TrueGB I don't mind if it looks like a turd. As long as its not done in piano black, because there's nothing worse than a turd in your living room that has fingerprints :P

@Jyakotu They could put it in a shoebox for all I care. I'm still only buying the console for the games... and well... not forcing me to deal with always online...

@killloIf they plan to launch it in November, they should have the PS4 hardware finalized before August 28.

@ChiefFreeman Gamestop's CEO recently went on record saying how excited he is about the new Xbox. Doesn't sound like the talk of someone who is worried about the next Xbox not supporting used games. He was genuinely excited about it. That can only mean that the rumor of used games not being supported is false.

jadaski1

@Daian I never understood the Gamestop hate.  They're just one of countless stores from which you can buy games.  If you don't like their used game prices, then don't buy from them or sell to them.

ChiefFreeman
ChiefFreeman

@Daian   So,  you'd rather Microsoft and the publishers endorsing Always online games have their way  instead?  Pffft.

CrowScythe
CrowScythe

@Daian So I guess Amazon, Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, and the thousands of mom-and-pop stores around the country don't exist. Yep, Gamestop has the industry in a strangle hold......

GOGOHeadray

@jadaski1 @Daian Same here; My dealings with gamestop has always been positive. I sell them my games I am no longer playing and I get a discount on either a new game or can rack up on some older titles. Its a win in my eyes.

Daian
Daian

@CrowScythe u completely missed the mark on what I was saying. For one I never said they already are in that position. Second of all none of those are gaming focused retailers, let alone have expos of their own. Gamestop is turning a bit into a retail monster so I worry about them getting too big.

GodMan7
GodMan7

@Daian @CrowScythe Its fine

how can a retailer control prices on used games? What are they going to charge more than buying the game new? lol
