Sony has announced the release of a new system software update for the PS Vita. Titled Version 3.00, the update will include a new application titled PS4 Link, which enables PS Vita owners to connect to the PlayStation 4 to access the Remote Play and Second Screen features.

Detailed on the official PlayStation blog, the update will also introduce new settings for photo taking, the ability to connect with the PS Vita to the PlayStation 3 via Wi-Fi, and user interface changes to various applications.

Sony did not reveal when the update will be live.

...Cool, now quit hiding the fact that my Vita can stream PS3 full games and let me play them on the toilet.

Don't act like you won't once you can.

I have been waiting so long. Now this is what we've all been waiting for.

Why is that Sony, a Japanese company, will launch its new console in Japan four months later than in the US? Are they preparing perhaps some special feature for the japanese market?

This might be the only way you'll play a good game on the Vita.

When will PS4 first-party game reviews drop?

Playing a ps4 game on the Vita would be kinda cool.

OMG the new PS Vita uses LCD ?  Oh Lord that is horrible !  Just another reason to not get a PS Vita.

Oh and Narutofan ...

I thought this guy was banned everywhere in regards to GameSpot.

PS4 icon probably put on there and not able to be hid just so Sony can try and get you to eventually buy their next gen console.  If I was someone with a PS Vita I would be annoyed by that if it is the case.

Will it be possible to remote-play over the internet using some kind of port forwarding?

The vita is only really a necessity for the ps4 if you want to take advantage of off TV play or cross buy titles. Also, if you're a PS+ member and want to take even more advantage of your subscription. I'd go for whatever system has more games that you want natively. The official Sony Vita site has a listing of all games broken up by genre, and the Nintendo site will have a listing as well. For a lot of people Persona/Pokemon is enough to sway their opinion.

Cross you fingers and hope it doesn't brick the PSP Vita.

Just updated but will have to wait over 3 weeks to use the PS4 remote play icon.

glad I have my PSvita. I am curious to see how well PS4 games play via PSvita. This is akin to off screen play offered by Nintendo. Handy if your sharing a T.V and the spouse want to watch T.V and your not quite finished a level in a PS4 game.

Depends of your tastes, if you want to go hardcore you can buy a 3DS for atlus RPGS or you can go with the vita with the PS+ program and never buy a game again, it has games and good ones, dont believe the myths.

3DS is has a bigger library of games. But Vita has a lot more quality in certain aspects

Wow -- a ps4 for Kimberly Vang. I'll wait, I think initial releases are not yet that stable (& of course the price!) -- El Cheapo

Eriberto Medrano I'll be picking up a PS4 soon. So I'm not sure if Vita will be necessary.

Eriberto Medrano

Really depends on your personal preferences. While the PS Vita is a powerful gaming handheld, it has yet to have a strong line-up of games compared to the 3DS.

I still couldn't decide whether I should have one of these. Is Vita better than 3DS?

Its funny, how the previous gen and next gen consoles from Microsoft and Sony, always copy Nintendo in a sly way.

First come Nintendo Wii with the Motion Controllers.  Then XBOX 360 made Kinect and PS3 made PSMove.

First there is Nintendo Wii U with its GamePad controller.   Now PS4 will have PSVita as a touch screen controller and the XBone will use there SmartGlass feature on there tablets.

Coincidence? I think not...

Because of the American market and competing with Microsoft. If they ignore this market, they lose ground to Microsoft. While in Japan they have a guaranteed market.

Much the same MS is ignoring Japan at launch because they know they won't compete.

@XNEXUS666X Huh? I have been VERY busy lately on my Vita with Rayman, Disgaea and Sine Mora, and those are only but a fraction of the spectacular games on Vita ;)

You haven't played many Vita games, have you? There are many great titles on it

@XspidervenomX This is one of the features of the PS4 that has me most excited.  I'm surprised that it's not getting more play.

I assume the upcoming TV-based Vita system will also be able to Remote Play PS4 games.  That would be a cheap way to get your PS4 fix on secondary TVs around the home.

@darkwarriorx7 In what way? Aside from first-party nintendo games, everything about the 3DS is pretty sub-par compared to the VITA.

Especially once you get over the 3D gimmick.

@darkwarriorx7

The last few months I've been getting much more use from my Vita, some of the latest releases have been great. Plus the introduction of indies has been fantastic. Having Lone Survivor, Proteus and Retro City Rampage etc on the go has been fantastic for me, not to mention PS+ is surprisingly incredibly generous.

It's amazing what Sony are finally doing. For the first time since 1989, I perfer a handheld that is not by Nintendo (the Neo Geo Pocket came close!!!)

VenkmanPHD
VenkmanPHD

@Raeldor Yeah, you can remote play over the internet.

Obviously it's going to work like crap though, because your going through the internet instead of a home network.

@Cody Biroth Go play Madden on PS Vita and tell me about the quality of that handheld.  It was horrible and kept me from buying the PS Vita.

@Lucas Almeida You're just jealous cause you don't own a PS Vita. I mean if that doesn't look SEXY then I don't know what does!

@Evan Powell and guaranteed you don't play Madden on it cuz it was awful.

snaketus

@Kimbarly Vang Well the hardware in Vita is far more impressive than in 3DS, but 3DS have way more games and probably better games because of that. But if you are interested to pair it with ps4 for example using remote play and second screen features then Vita is stronger option. It's up to you, what are you after with it?

GH05T-666
GH05T-666

@Kimbarly Vang I think Nintendo 3DS has a lot more games and is better in my opinion.

Doomerang
Doomerang

@GH05T-666 Except the whole remote play thing was done between the PS2 and PSP first, before the Wii U came out. Are you saying that Sony somehow copied future Nintendo?

megakick
megakick

@GH05T-666 Microsoft has being do a doing a bad job copying NINTENDO... What does XBOX 360 have that NINTENDO has kid friendly games? That has been around since the ATARI 2600.

snaketus
snaketus

@GH05T-666 Yeah, but Nintendo is forcing it and forgets core gamers. But Sony and MS cater to core gamers first and makes these gimmicks optional, and when they are optional developers don't have to utilize them.

Xristophoros
Xristophoros

@GH05T-666 all companies are inspired by other ideas push them forward. nintendo copied microsoft and sony regarding the online services did they not? and besides, nintendo has failed to implement the second touch screen well at this point. perhaps sony will do it better. to me it is just a gimmick anyways and will never completely replace a proper controller. nintendo came up with the idea first, yes it is true, but it was never a great idea to begin with so it is nothing to brag about.

arqe
arqe

@GH05T-666 So sony and microsoft should leave the business and all console players stuck with "only idea" japanese industry ? yeah they are thinking great deals but cant apply them good.

VenkmanPHD

@ArchoNils2 There are a lot of good games on VITA.

There needs to be a lot more, but there are still a LOT of good ones.

VenkmanPHD

@theKSMM @XspidervenomX We have the technical capability to do this with our PS3 games. check out some of the custom firmware workarounds and you will see what I mean.

I can't fathom why this is a locked feature currently.

@Daian @devilzzzwin OKAY, that's what I'm talking about....took the words right out of my mouth, lol.

Besides, the new Vitas aren't even released state-side, yet, so there's plenty of time and availability to get an OLED one. Just snag one before the new ones get announced for release here (it's not like any future release windows for it have been mentioned for the West anywayz).
