PS Vita Slim hits the US May 6 through $200 Borderlands 2 bundle

Sony confirms launch date for new version of portable.

by

Sony today announced that the PlayStation Vita Slim model, already available in Europe and Japan, will launch in North America on May 6. You can pick up a unit at retailers in a special $200 bundle that includes a system and a copy of Borderlands 2. The game will also be sold separately digitally and at retailers, though you'll need to wait an extra week before you can purchase the game alone on May 13.

The new PS Vita Slim features 1GB of internal memory, a new LCD display, better battery life, and a new design that Sony says makes the portable more comfortable to hold. The special PS Vita Borderlands 2 bundle also includes an 8GB memory card and six previously released add-on packs. These are listed below.

  • Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty
  • Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage
  • Psycho Character Class
  • Mechromancer Character Class
  • Ultimate Vault Hunter's Upgrade Pack
  • Collector's Edition Pack

Borderlands 2 for PS Vita is a collaborative effort between 2K, Sony, and Iron Galaxy Studios, the independent developer behind fighting game Divekick. Borderlands 2 for consoles and PC has shipped over 7.5 million copies to date.

Preordered this today, having a PS4 I've been looking for a reason to pick up a Vita.  Never played BL2 and this comes with all the DLC and an 8gb card for $199?  Plus better battery life and a normal micro-USB charging port instead of that huge cord the regular one comes with?

It didn't take me long to be sold.

I always worried if they were going to include xpacs with Borderlands 2 on the vita. Now I must get this.

I haven't bought borderlands 2 as my housemate owned it on xbox 360, however I didn't play much of it; only a couple of hours. As I already have a PS Vita I wont be getting the bundle, but I can wait a bit longer. This is a good opportunity for me to get in on some borderlands 2 action, while having quite a bit of the dlc on the game. Though this all depends on it being a decent version of the game. I know that most FPS games are better suited to other platforms, but handhelds are convenient and easy to use. Everyone knows the game itself is good (Some may not like it, but it doesnt mean its a bad game), I believe this would be perfect for the Vita, as long as it isn't a bad port...

lets see this quote ----"Since I haven't purchased a Vita, PS4, and my PS3 remained turned off for the majority of last gen."--what the hell you been playing then--oh let me guess halo and gears of war on your xbox 360-fanboy--move on

I own the ps vita it has a lot of good games on I t--- people act like the 3ds is all that--sure it has a lot of good games as well--playing donkey kong3 on mine now-- but what more do you people want from sony--I plan on selling my vita just so I can get this slimmer lighter model--

I didn't want one before, and I deffinately don't want it now.

Back to the drawing board, Sony.

What's this nonsense I am reading on these comments that it's already a fact that this is just going to be a 20fps garbage port?

Where are you getting this from? I'd actually be interested in this bundle since I've wanted to play BL2 and am WAY more on the go recently. Is there any merit to these claims or is this just random haters bashing because it's not coming out on a Microsoft handheld?

Great, now I have to buy another Vita. I just hope they don't release a Vita XL, cause I really don't want to own 3, but I will. At least it is only 200 bucks. That is really cheap.

Nobody cares about the Vita. Let it go.

Just a heads up. The one mentioned is not even the better deal..  Consider PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection PlayStation Vita Bundle by Sony Computer Entertainment.  Includes the OLED screen, 1yr PS+  4gig Memory Card and more for $200  (Happy Hunting)

Nothing makes me want a Vita more than bundling it with a shitty port of a shitty game that released years.

Hope Borderlands 2 will run smoothly by the time it's released. I mean 30s loading time and 20-ish fps are kinda shitty.

whoever buys this shit has more money than sense. same with the original vita. overpriced unnecassary garbage with no games worth playing and few situations where you'l actually want to 'game on the go'.

Keeping the stand alone version hostage a week to boost purchases of the cheap slim model. Thanks Sony, finally get a Vita game worth playing and they toy with their users, got me right in the feels.

Time to buy an ORIGINAL PS Vita (OLED screen for the win!!!)

I've preorderd my Psvita 2000 slim Borderlands 2 bundle. Still have my first edition bundle that launched way back on Feb 15th 2012.

Sony should have included the 1GB of on board memory for the PSvita 1000 at the very start. Which might have helped at little. But Sony should have had lot's of original games for the PSvita. The PSvita slim seems to have arrived much earlier than for the other playstations.

I hope that eventually Sony will release that PSvita TV here in North America at some point. The Psvita is a decent system, But those early prices of the proprietary memory cards really killed the sales of the system. With just under 8 million systems sold worldwide since December 17th 2011.  7.9 million is a very slow and crippled start for such a great portable system.

Hopefully the Slim will turn things around. But Sony just has to bring new games for PSvita. PS3 and PS4 ports are just not going to do it.

Proprietary memory....SONY does care about gamers..as long as you have stock in the company..What a joke.....

Borderlands 2 and six of the dlc packs with the Vita Slim, that really is great value. If I hadn't put so many hours into BL2 already I would rush out and buy one now.

I'll be picking one up for Persona 4 Golden, Mind Zero, and Conception 2.

Had the First Edition PSVita bundle and ended up selling it down the road. I held onto the system until E3 2013 to see if they had some plans for it. But they glanced over it like it didn't exist, so off it went.

catsimboy

That one gig of internal memory is enough to do diddly squat and the 8gb isn't that much either especially when some of the bigger Vita games are 2-4 gigs. Sony needs to lower their prices on their proprietary memory cards so it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to get one of a decent size. What's the point of making a quick profit on a memory card when you could sell way more games and media? Not to mention the price point on the cards makes the system less attractive overall.

@Sevenizz  Definitely, Sony has listened to you and has to work to please you.

cvantu

@Spartan-1657 well, Microsoft isn't stupid enough to release a portable system in a market that is no longer viable for them. Also, BL2 isn't really a great single player experience, so some people may recognize the lack of benefits playing it "on the go".

Honestly though, your last sentence is just retarded, so I'd thought I'd offer a retarded fanboyish like response too.

Blankkus

@exedeath I doubt they will make a XL version. I personally feel it just don't make sense if the screen gets bigger than the current models. However, I think it would be cool if they ever decide to make a duel screen version like DS. I would totally buy that if they ever make one! :)

@Shmiity  That's funny, there are more interesting games coming out for Vita right now than I've seen since I've owned it at launch. If you think 'Nobody cares about the Vita' means getting a lot of new and unique games coming out, then you probably need to locate a dictionary.

Idk, sounds like a similar deal to me:

- Borderlands 2 price is about 10 bucks less than Ps plus 1 year subscription (40 compared to 50).

- 8gb memory card is likely more expensive than the 4gb memory card

Obviously this is a quick and dirty comparison, but it looks like they equal out in terms of deals, and the borderlands bundle may even have the edge here.

@DARKSPACE already have 2 yrs playstation plus luv the instant library games for it as well as other games not in the library that's free

@istuffedsunny That's funny. All I heard about B2 is positive stuff. Now, if you put B2 and Vita in a sentence, the game automatically is bad.

AtlasTheStrong
AtlasTheStrong

@alanpk  Why? It's going to be $200 either way, atleast you would get a game you could trade in and get a 8gb memory card.

@OhWell4992  Yeah that's a bit rough. In theory this is a really neat bundle, but not if the game is subpar.

@xan114  If you don't want one don't get one. I did and i have enjoyed most of the games i got for it. I'm not saying all of them were perfect or even great but the ones that i got were the ones right for me.

@xan114 Personally I thought Gravity Rush was worth it and the reason I bought the original Vita. Tearaway is a pretty neat game too. :)

@xan114  you crazy man. Persona 4, Rayman origins, rayman legends, little big planet, tearaway, FF X and X-2, Sine Mora, Gravity rush, Mortal Kombat, MGS HD collection, and Telltale's A walking dead. All of which have above an 80 on metacritic. And the vita is still Young!

@catsimboy

$100.00 is an arm and a leg for a 64 GB card that will hold at least 20 games or more depending on the size? Is your only source of income a $10.00 weekly allowance from your parents?

Sevenizz

Possibly. Since I haven't purchased a Vita, PS4, and my PS3 remained turned off for the majority of last gen.

Spartan-1657

@cvantu @Spartan-1657  How was my post fanboyish? I fail to see what you're talking about. My point isn't bashing or insulting Microsoft at all. What other group of gamers would collectively just bash a PS Vita game and state as fact that it's a garbage port that runs at 20FPS?

My point is that if this, hypothetically of course, was a release for a Microsoft handheld (which yes, I realize doesn't exist) their comments would be completely different. I'm targeting fanboys, not Microsoft.

Also, I enjoyed the first BL single player. Never got to play it online though, so single player, especially on held-held, is not a problem for me.

Turn off tunnel-vision though eh? I understand you're probably used to seeing a lot of fanboy comments, but believe it or not, not every single one of them are.

dani3po

@cvantu @Spartan-1657  Borderlands 2 IS a great single player experience. I have played more than 50 hours only in single player. Is the king of the rpg shooters, period.

@Shango4 @fastharry I would like sony to lower the price of the memory but that's not going to keep me from buying it--I plan on buying a 64 gb stick to put in my new vita so I can put all my games I purchased onto it and future games as well--the funny thing is if it was Nintendo asking twice the price for the memory people wouldn't complain but since it is sony its like its all out war on them
