Project X Zone crossing over North America this June

Upcoming JRPG to feature more than 50 playable characters from Namco Bandai, Capcom, and Sega.

by

Namco Bandai has announced on its website that the upcoming 3DS crossover-filled role-playing game Project X Zone will be out in North America and Europe soon.

JRPG fans can start mixing and matching video game icons for turned-based fights later this June.

The game will arrive on game shelves on June 25 in North America. The European release date for the game has yet to be confirmed, though the website stated that it will be out in summer.

Project X Zone's plot revolves around a treasure called the "portalstone," where interdimensional travelling between different universes is possible. Players are able to form their own party in combat using over 50 playable characters from various Namco Bandai, Capcom, and Sega franchises. Examples include Street Fighter's Ryu and Ken, Tekken's Heihachi Mishima and Jin Kazama, and Virtua Fighter's Akira and Pai.

Why can't games like this come out on the big consoles?  It makes me tear my hair out that yet another interesting JRPG is portable only.  I have never understood the allure of playing an RPG for hours on a tiny screen that you have to look down on instead of a real TV.

It should stay in Japan. I can use that money to buy an actual good game instead.

Always something great to look forward to for the 3DS ^_^ hopefully Nintendo can create this same momentum for the Wii U by this summer.

I will be getting this game.  What's not to love about crossover games.  Cross over RPG full of many favorites that you grew up with equals awesome.

Certainly looking forward to this title.

Just think how much better the Wii U would sell if they made all these games for that instead of portables.

Leave it to Japan to come up with a jrpg with fighting game characters in it.

I guess I better add another reason to my list of why I need a 3DS.

This looks great.

It's nice to see fighting games getting rosters that are quite large...and on disc.

Twenty characters is not a lot; fifty characters, or more, is a good amount.

@JRLennis

Maybe because when games like this do come out on the "big consoles" (I'm assuming you mean PS3/360), it usually sells horribly, reassuring these developers that portable is the safest route for unique games like this.

@CecilChups

Define "actual good game" and I'm betting you're going to list a game that probably won't require as much strategy and skill as this one.

@Jyakotu Good question. Technically, a fan translation was released, and I can confirm it works flawlessly with great translation; however, I was shocked to find I hated the game. The load times between battles are dumb (and I don't mean the tactical battle map, I mean each and every actual fight!), the dialog was bland and random, and just an overall lack of story.

 I'm hoping this 3DS game the game will load into battles much more quickly.

@Jyakotu In parts it was the power of today's social medias like twitter, facebook where millions of fans voiced their desire to have it localized. Which in my opinion is the only good thing those social medias have brought us.

@helix090 RPG with real-time/turn-based/fighting game battle mechanics. It's a hybrid I know, if you played Super Robot Taisen on the DS you would know.

Just let them go, they have almost killed the Vita.

@GunBladeHero @helix090 I've played SRT: OG & OG2 so i know what you mean.  I just mean by the video above (& just from that video), looks like a pure crossover fighter game.

Thrazewolf
Thrazewolf

@00LiteYear Well, yeah, that's one example.

Though, I wasn't specifically aiming at that particular title.

I'm aiming at the entire fighting genre.

@Thrazewolf If it's something cheap like Skull Girls, I think that would be excusable.

Ultimate Marvel 3 is one of the most impressive fighting games, but even though it has 50 characters, someone can't be good at every character. I know half of the roster well, but I only specialize in Chris, Haggar, Strider.
