Swedish developer MindArk AB has announced that the second beta test of its upcoming online role-playing game Project Entropia is on track to begin at the end of August. The next phase of the test will include approximately 500 more testers. Players interested in participating in the test can still sign up at MindArk's Web site.

Project Entropia is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game set in the future. Players assume the role of colonists on the planet Calypso, and they can adventure into the wilderness and fight invading robots and dangerous creatures. The game will feature an unusual business model in which the game itself will be distributed for free, and players will not pay subscription fees. Instead, those who wish to purchase improved weapons and equipment may do so using real-world money. Conversely, players who choose to adventure to acquire items can sell them and convert their in-game profits to real-world money.

Project Entropia is scheduled for release later this year. For more information, take a look at our previous coverage of the game.
