Project Cars racing game screenshots go for ultra-realism

Developer says all images for Project Cars show in-game footage and are not doctored in any way. The game is available for PC, Xbox One, PS4, Wii U, and Steam OS.

by

Slightly Mad Studios has released 60 new screenshots for its upcoming racing game Project Cars, showing off some of the cars players will find in the game and its various environments.

The developer also promised that there's no funny business going on with the images. They are all pulled directly from the an early development version of the game distributed to community members and have not been doctored in any way, the studio said.

"As usual, all shots show purely in-game footage that has not been made in any special photo mode, using no post-processing or filters that aren't available during the actual gameplay," the studio said. "What you see below is what you experience while driving!"

Project Cars launches for the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Wii U as well as Steam OS and PC in fall 2014. Check out the Project Cars website for the full batch of 60 screenshots.

Slightly Mad Studios previously worked on Need for Speed: Shift and Shift 2: Unleashed.

Pretty impressive and looks like a real next-gen game.

There better be Porsche's in this game

Simulating machines aren't impressive.  The human form, on the other hand, is where it's at.  I can't wait to see EA's UFC in action.  I know it will look awesome on the PS4/Xbox One.  Probably doing a no-show on the PC as usual, as PC's can't handle fighting games for some reason, especially not the realistic ones.  The still pics are impressive.  Good luck finding a PC that can run the game, though.  There are different graphical settings on PC games for a reason.  It's because not all PC's are equal.  There's no such thing as "THE" PC.

I don't care if it ends up being the shittiest racing game in the world, those graphics are LITERALLY like real life and I will buy the game for the graphics and if the gameplay ends up being good then that's just a bonus. I mean seriously this is the most realistic looking game I have ever seen in my life. Project Racing puts Crysis 3 and Battlefield 4 to shame in terms of graphical fidelity. And to think that this game was funded almost entirely by Kickstarter, wow just wow.

looks better than Forza.  I just hope there are some city tracks.

If the physics are anything like Shift then the only good thing about this game is going to be the graphics.

Been following this game for over a year now and have seen it improving itself day by day . Looks phenomenal on PC , will use Apex technology and PhsyX 3.0 . The game director also said that PS4 processor is too weak compared to PC processors they are targeting for final build of the game .

Of course this images are footage of PC version. Thanks for the clarification, I was going to ask :P

What if that's the best looking patch of grass, and if they'd zoom out the rest is muddled? The grass is a lie.

This game should be a breeze for the next-gen consoles to run. I've been an alpha tester on this game for the past 2-3 years and I can run it maxed out. To put some context on that my GPU is weaker than the GPU currently in the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. This game is absolutely gorgeous and shows just what can be done if higher end hardware is targeted from the start.

Finally something that is starting to near the graphics of my Skyrim, good job.

Looks GREAT! Is this the power of the next gen? Well,it takes more than graphics to impress the gaming community though.Let's hope they don't let us down.

Those screenshots look amazing!

Now, if only it can retain that level of realism in actual gameplay without a hitch.  I'm sold!

Amazing! the grass looks so real I can't believe it's a game (maybe it's the grass outside of their houses?)

The cars look so real... I wouldn't know it's a game if you don't tell. Amazing!

DId you guys see that picture of the road and the grass :o!! WOAH!!

I thought they took a picture of the street outside.  These are probably from the PC version of the game, I don't think it can look this REAL on a console.

Graphics have come a long way.

Very sexy indeed.  Question:  When photo-realism is finally achieved (must only be a few year away now), then what?  Graphics can't get better than realistic so what will be the next milestone?

DarkSaber2k
DarkSaber2k

The only thing there I'd consider realistic was the grass/leaves shot. The cars look pretty/great for a console but not "ultra-realistic". Chalk it up the Uncanny Valley I suppose.

That upclose grass is god like.

But still, they're not showing you how it looks when you're racing and driving.  This is all photo or replay mode.  I assume that means that think gameplay looks so bad it would turn people off from the game.  Otherwise they'd be proud of it and showcase it.

That's great... now someone make a RPG with as much detail and I'll be a happy guy.  I haven't been into racing games since GT3 (PS2)

That picture of the side of the road... I feel like my PC would explode in an inferno trying to render that kind of quality while I zip past it at 200mph...

@FighterforJC still havent played a true fighting simulation game yet. Id like to see one though. UFC wont be on PC, for whatever stupid reason. EA took all their games off of PC in 2008 accept for a couple lilke FIFA and Tiger Woods. They still release stuff like SHIFT, but theres better racing games on PC than that. Street Fighter is on PC as is Mortal Kombat.

Fo rme to accept its a true fighting simulation. All parts of the body would have to have a damage %. like upper ribe, lower ribs, stomach, liver, inner thigh outer thigh. and parts of the face would need %'s to. Not just 1 health bar for the head. injuries over a career so certain parts of the body need to be defended more than others. Id love to see a true well thought out fighting game.

@YOURMOM204It wasn't Kickstarter, SMS set up their own system called World of Mass Development. Rather than blindly giving money and hoping you get updates from the devs, all of the developers post daily on the WMD forums, and backers can play all of the development builds and directly suggest changes and new features. If the game breaks even at retail, then all of the backers get their money back too. Big step ahead of Kickstarter!

Bird_dogg66
Bird_dogg66

@carlrhxphn Well I think the sky is the limit on what SMS wants to accomplish with a franchise of racing titles going forward.

@carlrhxphn It's sticking to mainly real race circuits, so Monaco will be in. Macau may also turn up in an expansion after release.

@profileap600The physics are almost entirely rewritten, it's more like GTR2 than Shift. No publishers to interfere and demand arcadey tweaks this time.

@lionheart051  I don't know why you would think that. the two new consoles are extremely powerful. id be pretty surprised if even a realy high end pc could out class the new consoles right now. I know the sepcs on the consoles "seem" less than cutting edge but remember when compairing console and PC specs it apples and organges so to speck.

@wildamnesiaBeing inside the game!  I can't wait tell they make it so that I can play fighting games as myself with my own body movements in a virtual reality like Sword art online.

@Senor_KamiThere is no photo mode, just a freely movable camera during gameplay. There are tons of videos on Youtube of the game being played.

LVT_PTA_PB
LVT_PTA_PB

@Senor_Kami Well.. technically it's true, but what if they wait until it's finely tuned and closer to the release date? But meh.. the studio behind Shift made it. Shift looked beautiful and seriously immersive.. but the gameplay............... I mean, in a racing game you just can't hide behind pretty graphics.

@Wild_Card @lionheart051 Just lol at your comment.. A mid range PC, even before their release, could destroy an XONE and PS4. I have an XONE and will get a PS4, so I'm not on anyone's side but I am firmly grounded in reality.

Setho10
Setho10

I'm pretty sure a $3,000 PC could butcher the new consoles. Maybe not a $1,000 one but you are kidding yourself if you think that a PC cannot outclass the consoles if you throw enough money into it.

@Wild_Card@lionheart051

Let's be serious.

The gap between gaming PC and so-called "next gen" consoles is already huge, and the Xbone and PS4 are built with off the shelf PC parts anyway. There is room for SOME optimization, but not for magic. Just look at last gen: even the last games developed on consoles were no match graphically for much older PC games running on cards like the 8800 GTX. This gen, the gap is even greater, from the very beginning.
