Project 8 booms 56 tracks

In-game soundtrack for upcoming skater features usual dose of hip-hop, punk, rock; Gnarls, NIN, Toots, Hieroglyphics on board.

Ollies, McTwists, acid drops, and Saran Wraps just don't have street cred when performed to the tunes of Perry Como, Celine Dion, or polka king Jolly Joe Timmer. For the soundtrack of Tony Hawk's Project 8, Activision culled songs from recent memory and yesteryear, and there's not a waltz, muzak, or easy-listening tune in earshot.

Hello, we're here to pick up your daughter.

The soundtrack is populated with 56 songs from rock, hip-hop, and punk artists all spanning a few decades. Among the new acts, such as Gnarls Barkley ("Gone Daddy Gone"), Wolfmother ("Woman"), and Kasabian ("Club Foot"), are classic bands, including Joy Division ("Interzone"), Kool and the Gang ("Summer Madness"), and The Ramones ("I Wanna Live"). The full soundtrack is listed over at MP3.com.

The new band featuring former Blink-182 members, Plus-44 (pictured), is using the soundtrack to debut a song from their forthcoming album When Your Heart Stops Beating. Gamers will be able to hear the song "Lycanthrope" in Project 8 a week before the album is released in mid-November.

Tony Hawk's Project 8, rated T for Teen, is scheduled for release November 7 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Xbox. A PlayStation 3 version is also in the works and will be released later this year. For more information, read GameSpot's previous coverage.

Dam that soundtrack sucks, it gets worst game after game.

@thastillmatic1 It is quite poor that they haven't added Lupe Fiasco as that has been one of my favourite tunes of the year and would have fitted in to Project8 nicely. Oh well at least Klaxons are in there which is quite surprising. Go Klaxons.

wHAT? Some of you people are ridiculous! Never heard of any of the bands??! Man, that is a awesome soundtrack! Yea, I really wish that the PS3 would have custom soundtracks too. I come up with music for stuff all the time...

Sweet, The Klaxons Gravity's Rainbox is on there. Some other cool bands too. Dunno why gamespot thinks Plus-44 are worth mentioning though. Blink 182 were absolutely pants.

That Mogwai song on the soundtrack is downright amazing. It alone is going to be enough for me to buy the game...in about a year and a half, when it comes down to about $15. Seriously, I had the same experience with Tony Hawk's Underground and Refused - New Noise.

_AbBaNdOn "Please get rid of the crappy punk music....for ever..and from every game. Even if its a game about punk music dont let there be any punk music. Please!!! I'd rather listen to religious music than punk music. Even country!!! And i would jam a screwdriver in my ear before i had to listen to country. " please hang yourself.

They don't really need to put soundtracks on the 360 games as everyone uses their own music. But I do listen to the game sound track at least once to see what they have to offer.

I haven't heard of most of the bands on there, but should be good. But I'll probably use my custom soundtrack.

The listen isn't half bad. I'll probably use my custom tracks though.

I really like it when music is released first on game soundtracks, but I always have this vision that during the soundtrack selection phase its a bunch of marketing guys in suits and women in very sensible shoes saying "wow chad do you think that song is RAD enough to go on the game?"

i loved just about every soundtrack for THPS games.

I love blink 182 so I want to hear plus-44.

Some good stuff in there... Toots And The Maytals are a welcome surprise, though the selection for the Ramones is a little puzzling. Their 1980s stuff just wasn't as great... must've had trouble licensing their earlier stuff I guess. And Dead Milkmen would definitely have been better represented by "Takin' Retards To The Zoo". W00t!

Mechakucha

game soundtracks are dead in next gen. 360 and PS3 just lets you use your ipod or whatever, so it would make more sense to save the licensing fees and use them towards making the actual game better.

i got the THPS3 soundtrack, and as always, the soundtrack f***in' rocks. hope this rocks too.

Kasabian is my favourite band, but i have heard "Club Foot" more than enough now, every game has this track, why not "shoot the runner" or "Reason is Treason", well well.

The list isn't that bad since Sonic Youth, The Cure, The Ramones, Ministry, NIN, Bad Religion, Slayer, Primus, and some others are in it. Still, the list could be much better.

sorry, the music won't rescue the Hawk series from boredom

Usual Tony hawks music I guess...still nothing to rival Thps2's soundtrack though as that was awesome! Least all us 360 owners have the added comfort of using our own music thanfully.

IF the Phanton is correct, Mogwai, Sonic Youth, and Joy Division rank among my favorite bands, and so I view the soundtrack as being the best ever. Some old school Iggy Pop or Bowie would be nice. And I hope there are tracks from Peanut Butter Wolf's new Adult Swim inspired cd.

ThePhantomVI
ThePhantomVI

Mogwai is on the list? And Peanut Butter Wolf? Ministry? Joy Division? Sonic Youth? I'm sold. Thank god for custom sountracks, though, since I'm sure half of the songs on the list will be unlistenable. Heh, just noticed that one of the bands seems to have named themselves after a Mogwai album...

Damn, my crap sence in tingeling... Looks like I'm gonna pull my old trick: mute the game and roll my own music...
