Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright coming to US in 2014

Nintendo confirms 3DS crossover game releasing next year in the United States.

3DS game Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney will be released in the United States in 2014, Nintendo announced today during its latest Nintendo Direct video presentation today.

The crossover game, co-developed by Level-5 and Capcom, originally launched last year in Japan. Nintendo did not give a more specific release window than 2014 for the game in the US.

Also during the Nintendo Direct today, it was announced that Super Mario Bros. 3 will be available for the Wii U and 3DS Virtual Consoles later this year.

Meanwhile, the 3DS eShop will welcome Summer Carnival '92: Recca, Donkey Kong (August 15), Wario Land 3 (August 29), and Tecmo Bowl (fall) later this year.

I can totally see why some people wouldn't like this game: too much brain power involved. Go Team Layton!!! =)

That's great, but no EU release. Shame the 3DS is region locked.

Professor Layton, you stand accused of molestation and sexual assault, rotate the left stick to plead not guilty.

So it's just TBA again. Well, waiting for this won't seem so long since Smash Bros and Dark Souls 2 is coming out as well.

Not that I want to come across as complaining, but why did it take over a year to bring a crossover of two of the most popular DS franchises to America?  This feels like such a no brainer.  Those million dollar companies need to get better management, right now it seems everyone is dropping opportunities (or needlessly delaying them) and it's probably inflating development budget more than needed.

Capcom actually did something that wasn't kicking its fans in the nuts like usual, it seems.

I'm happy that this is getting localized though. Can't wait to pick this up!

@brianit41 It does have a nice 3D style that resembles the 2D styles. Oh and I think cutscenes are in 2D.

@bahamutdragons Have you ever seen how much goes into localization? It's not the no-brainer it may feel like.

@R4gn4r0k @brianit41 If its anything like PL: Miracle Mask then it'll be fine. The 3D allows them to add more animations to the overall game play and the important story elements will all be hand drawn.

@mario1028 @bahamutdragons Perhaps not, but Square seems to be able to do it with less than under three months of additional dev time.  I understand that Level-5 isn't as big as square, but still, with careful planning, I'm sure they could do better than "well over a year".
