Professor Layton movie gets localized

Viz Media bringing Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva Blu-ray, DVD to North America on November 8.

Professor Layton is ready to hit the big screen. Well, a bigger screen than the one to which the handheld puzzle hound is accustomed, at any rate. Level 5 and Viz Media have confirmed Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva for a November 8 North American release on Blu-ray and DVD.

The shocking thing is this didn't happen sooner.

When Professor Layton receives a letter from a former student who has seen a ghost, the sleuth and his young assistant Luke set off on an adventure to get to the bottom of the supposedly supernatural situation. Along the way, the pair discovers the secret behind a recent rash of mysterious disappearances and tests the secret of eternal life.

The Eternal Diva is not the only Viz Media gaming import on the horizon. On August 16, the publisher will release Ico: Castle in the Mist, a novel adaptation of Team Ico's PlayStation 2 classic action game penned by Miyuki Miyabe.

For those who would prefer tackling the professor's brainteasers themselves, Nintendo is planning to publish the fourth DS installment in the series, Professor Layton and the Last Specter, in North America this fall. For more on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

I watched the UK version nearly a year ago when my friends Europe came over here to Canada. It's fantastic. It really is. There are even puzzles for you - the viewer - to solve that are woven into the story in a very cool way. The voice acting is great (and it's the original cast), although Luke sounds a bit off at first, you realize it is the difference between the DS and regular TV speakers that causes this.

@dkdk999 It was a great movie just like the games. there were maybe 4 or 5 puzzles in the movie that they had to solve, this is not counting the over laying mysterious plot of the movie. the puzzles are somewhat like how you solve them in the game but no cutting out to a puzzle screen, its more like word problems and some situational problems and of course amazing gizmo's!

I lost all interest in this once I heard that Uwe Boll wasn't the mastermind behind this project
