Prey patched for PC

Fix for Human Head's sci-fi shooter released for PC; 22.5MB file addresses crashes, multiplayer performance.

3D Realms and Human Head Studios have released the first patch for the PC game Prey. The file updates the game to version 1.1 and solves issues that caused the game to crash. The multiplayer portion of the game has also been tweaked, with the patch improving "multiplayer bandwidth optimization." There are no new gameplay features in the patch, and the developer says there aren't any planned for the future. The patch is not for use with copies of Prey purchased through Triton. Gamers can download the 22.5MB file now from GameSpot.

Hmm, A friend a mine was totally addicted to Prey for a while and couldn't stop going on about how cool and innovative it was. I wasn't exactly as drawn to it as he was, but it was a fun game nonetheless (Solid gameplay is the only thing that makes a game for me, not fancy never before seen features and bull like that). Funny how he kept saying that Prey would be one of the greatest games ever "once they release the patch with new MP content". The MP was fun for a while, but it gets old really quick. And IMO, a game should be complete the day it ships, adding major improvements later on won't save it, not even if it's an expansion. In short, too bad but they had it coming.

Prey doesn't suck. C'mon kids, save the "suck" description for games that really deserve it. Prey's multiplayer, on the other hand...needs a lot more TLC.

i found the games engine to render wonderful enviroments, but the characters looked horrible, except for the hero that is. the actual gameplay in the single player was more novle than anything, i never felt like it took full advantage of the gravity or portals. i do think it was a ok game, but no half-life 2. sorry. and the multiplayer could have been fantastic, playing simple deathmatch i thought, holly crap this is fun, they should flesh this out, hope a expansion pack hits, rather than stupid extra content for extra money, ala bethesda.

Look at the success of FEAR Combat. Releasing a Free MP game to the public, off a already hugely successful Single/Multi package. Human Head need to get on the ball and not go the way of Bethseda, which was releaseing updates for $$$. Human Head need to get down and dirty and make some crazy maps for MP, because from the start, those few maps that are in the retail are crazy fun to play.

man the MP was such a great idea too. i barely see games, which is too bad, cause the weapons were bad ass for the MP.

No matter how many patches come out for Prey, it will continue to suck.

nuttybar Its too late to save Prey's multiplayer... ------------------------- unfortunately true, developers and publishers need to learn that releasing a game with unoptimized MP right off the bat is just gonna kill the online community Plus they are thinking of charging money for prey's MP maps, lol who is gonna pay for maps, when the actual MP as lagged to hell? BTW i actually do think prey's mp is good but the lag and whiney quitters ruin it

The description says it adds widescreen support to the game. Can anyone confirm this?

free GameStop manager edition of Prey ftw. Haven't had any crash issues in the single player yet though, and I've yet to try multiplayer >.>
