Portal 2 takes Game of the Year at Golden Joysticks

Valve's puzzler takes Ultimate Game of the Year at Golden Joystick Awards, Sonic awarded Outstanding Contribution.

Portal 2 took the big prize at the 29th Golden Joysticks Awards, taking the Ultimate Game of the Year prize at the London award ceremony, with winners decided entirely by public vote. This year's awards, for which more than 2 million votes were cast, also saw FIFA pick up the Sports Game of the Year accolade for the second year running.

The Call of Duty franchise bagged yet another award in the Best Shooter category for Black Ops, and there was also an award for Mojang's blocky sandbox build-'em-up Minecraft, which was named Downloadable Game of the Year. Awards were also handed to the Nintendo 3DS for Innovation and to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in the One to Watch category.

Sega's spiky blue mascot, Sonic the Hedgehog, received this year's award for Outstanding Contribution to the industry, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the series and the release of Sonic Generations.
