Polyphony: Gran Turismo 7 for PS4 in "a year or two"

Producer Kazunori Yamauchi says unannounced racing game will be ready in 2014 or 2015; Gran Turismo 6 about 80 percent finished.

A new Gran Turismo game for the PlayStation 4 will be released in "a year or two," according to Polyphony Digital producer Kazunori Yamauchi. In the latest issue of Famitsu (via Polygon), Yamauchi said this unannounced game will feature a significant community aspect.

"The PlayStation 4 game, which we'll likely call GT7, will be done in about a year or two, I think, and I think the community aspect's going to be vital there as well," Yamauchi said.

Yamauchi previously said that he had a PS4 version of Gran Turismo "in mind."

Gran Turismo 6 launches exclusively for the PlayStation 3 on December 6. Yamauchi also said in the magazine that the game was about 80 percent finished.

"The physics engine, the steering controls; those parts of the user interface are things that we fine-tune right up to the very end," Yamauchi said. "Things like the game modes; I can say that those are complete."

Gran Turismo 6 is one of the more than 50 games that Sony will have on display at its booth at the Tokyo Game Show, which begins late next week. For more on Gran Turismo 6, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.

When Polyphony states GT6 is about 80 percent finished - it actually means 40 percent finished.

Now that's a lie.  GT7 will probably take a few years more than what he says.

Hey PD should I remind you guys of GT5? Forgot already?  Alright thats fine, I'm up for some good lols after Turn 10 S**ts n your faces again like they have been for the past couple of years.

Great news, since I'm not buying GT6... The improvements over GT5 aren't enough to warrant a new purchase. Polyphony needs to step up their game. Gran Turismo is supposed to be the premier console racing simulator.

Gran Tourismo 6 would have been a good launch game for the PS4. Hence I am not buying one now as the launch games are rubbish for the PS4.

Riiight.  I'm still not sure I believe GT6 is coming in December.

That's bold coming from PD. They spend five years working on window tints for a Honda Civic. I think they know Turn 10 lapped them the day Forza came out and then they shit the bad with GT5. So with how incredible Forza 5 looks they need to step up next gen. Forza is the only franchise I was jealous of as a Playstation owner - I had Forza 1 for Xbox and it blew me away compared to GT. Such a better series than GT and I hope Drive Club is a quarter as good as Forza 5 is because I'm not getting Xbox one until next year. I don't expect GT7 for four years but I think it will be INCREDIBLE. Surprise me PD. Show me the power of PS4.

So the end of the PS4 life cycle then. And it will be a let down.

I like how the guys at Poly. do their games. Chronologically and fashionable:

Every launch console has 2 of GT games. PS4 will surely have 7 & 8 then PS5 (will some how be close after 8!! :D

Good news, I'll look forward to it.

Nice time frame, if they can make it happen.

I really liked the first gran turismo game.

The unwillingness to put in realistic car damage models and allow cars to flip over on the roof put me off to any sequels.

I tried liking GT2 and GT3 but it mostly felt like driving indestructible hovercrafts.

Where's the gritty car feeling.

I heard they added some limited damage models to GT5 but they have a lot to prove before I'll be interested in buying this again. Forza looks much better to me (and I won't buy any xbox).

I'd rather dig up an old GTR game for PC

That is 4 years, because they NEVER launch on time or on schedule.

Guess I will just skip GT6 then, Forza5 can hold me over till GT7.

How do i know if this will be a PS4 port of GT6 or not? Now i don't know if i should get GT6 for PS3 or skip it becasue i dont know what that PS4 game3 will be.

So stupid... There's no way I'd buy 6 unless it was released for next gen. I'm still not done number 5 FFS! I think they're going to have a bunch of other fans skipping 6 as well. I'll wait for 7.

Gotta say, Forza is probably the only thing I'll miss from MS this coming gaming gen.

This sh!ts all over GT6. I mean if they are able to get a new one on the PS4 in a year or 2 why not just hold GT6 for a couple more months and then drop that on the PS4.

coolguyhero
coolguyhero

well i doubt that,reasons:

1.sony already said that every studio is making PS4 game.

2.GT7 work in progress according to me 10 to 20 % completed.

3.system architect mark said that small games can be completely developed on ps4 with in 1 month & big games 2 to 3 months so it confirms that they are making it.thatswhy if you see in E3 driveclub was 25 % completed till launch it will finished with all the tweaks with production discs.

4.sony didn't want such big game to release now since GT6 is just launched it will hamper thier sales.if you look carefully sony didn't announce any ps4 game which is coming to ps3 also.third party are launching since they will not get hit as they are making next gen console games also.

5.sony already shared lots of games .they want to keep some big games for later when they will have some less games to show.

this is the marketing startergy.if they show all the games now.what big game you will play after 6 months or year.

they need to drop all the pu$$y cars in the gt series and focus on cars players want to use like forza has. Im so tired of the gt series forcing u to race lil panzy cars just to win the same damn car ur already racing. Forza doesnt force u to race in no damn 30 hp mini trucks or go karts, They have real iconic cars from all over the world, I do miss playing forza and hopefully the xb1 isnt as faulty as the 360.

Well at lest now we've got some confirmation, now that i know that they're not going to release gt6 of ps4 months after i buy it on ps3 i feel much better :)

@M3o5nster I think they improved the game a lot from all the videos and info posted at GTPlanet has shown.  Bias there may be, but they can get critical.

@collingtonuk It will take 4 to 5 years for PS4 to unleash it's full potential.

@Saketume You do realise that the PlayStation 1 simply wasn't capable of running damage modeling with advanced physic and everything else that was in Gran Turismo 1, right?

Supabul
Supabul

@Catz_03

Because GT7 on PS4 will be a half finished game like GT5 on PS3 with cars imported from GT6

You know GT6 is really the finished version of GT5

ealr1984

@andmcq @Saketume In fairness, his comment does not relate specifically to GT1 not having damage, but to the series as a whole.

I agree with this, as the damage modeling in GT5 was not good enough. Forza has surpassed GT for an overall experience.

I still like the pure driving experience in GT games, but just can't stomach the 90's feel of everything else!

@RustedTruck650 @MadMike2869 a car enthusiast? not sure what enthiast is but yeah i understand the whole car enthusiast idea. But honestly there is no need for 54 mazda miatas in the game or 30+ toyota prius's. 2-3 of each car is really all they needed in the game. They could have focused more on gettin some cars a real enthusiast would love. Ex. 69 cutlass 442, 70 hemi Cuda, 1964 AM DB6. Real head turners that car enthusiasts love. I have been a GT fan for a long time but im really gettin tired of polyphony braggin that they have over 1200 cars in game, when in reality its like 500 with many of them copy and pasted with a few minor performance tweaks.

CincoToes
CincoToes

@beardface21 His second comment made more sense. They really do put 50 of a few car in to make it seem like they have a lot of different cars. At least if they did 50 years of a car, that'd be cool, but 50 versions of the same year, make and model? Come on.

beardface21

@MadMike2869 @RustedTruck650 Dude you sound full of yourself.

Gran Turismo has been about all type of cars, from tiny Civics, to Leno's Tank Car, and the 458s.

That's why people love it.
