According to NTT Publishing's EG game news site, the new Nintendo DS Pokémon games Diamond and Pearl accrued combined sales of 1.58 million units during their debut week of September 28 through October 1. This beats the franchise's former champions of first-week sales, Pocket Monster Gold/Silver, which combined moved 1.41 million copies back in 1999. The best single title for debut sales on the DS continues to be New Super Mario Bros., which racked up 865,024 units its first week. Diamond sold 813,237 units, while Pearl moved an impressive 762,029 copies.
Haven't played a Pokemon game since the good old days of Red n' Blue - red was one of my favourite games ever, now having recently bought a DS Lite, I really want to start the addiction again.
I know! what the hell? why isn't in America yet? I WANT IT NOW!!! I haven't researched it and found out all the Pokemon like in previous versions. So it will be like a new experience but COME ON ALREADY! I'm gonna die between this and the awesome Super Smash Bros Brawl. I wonder if Brawl will have the new series of Pokemon in it? It should seeing how they would've been out for a long time already by the debut of Brawl. did they say when it will hit the selves in the US?
now, if only they will get off their bum and release it in the english speaking countrys. didnt they ever learn time is money, and they will make more money if they translate faster instead of taking 7-8 months.
Wow. . .just wow. . . And I can totally understand why. . .I mean, I was 17 when Red/Blue first hit the US, and quickly became enamored, but by the time Crystal rolled around, I faded out of the franchise. . . Then I played a demo of Sapphire and was hooked all over again. Before I knew it, I was back on track: Sapphire, Ruby, Colliseum, Leaf Green, Emerald. . .then I drifted again, never even bothering with XD. . . Yet, here I am again now. Currently 25, I picked up Mystery Dungeon Blue, played through it slowly; felt some disappointment, but far more wonder at the franchise's application to the Mystery Dungeon series format. Now Diamond and Pearl have hit Japan, with the games' ins and outs leaking all over the net. . .and I'm getting excited for Pokemon yet again! Despite all the franchise's twists, turns, and trappings, it somehow keeps drawing me back. If I believed in the devil, I'd swear Nintendo made one hell of a deal. . .It's just too uncanny.
Always knew Pokemon will sell... not because it's overhyped, but because its probably one of the greatest RPG's ever, even surpassing Zelda sometimes (Crystal/Emerald, anyone?)
NextGenAdam holy schmit that's more than any PSP game I know has ever sold. And in four days! Wow... --- wait... the PSP has games? O.O *awaits flamers*
hell I'm 27 and I'm currently playing PoKeMon Mystery Dungeon. I wouldn't say that I'm a Poke-Fanatic, but I've been playing the video game since Blue hit the gameboy way back when. I've always enjoyed them. Pokemon is the game that introduced my into the "turn based" gameplay. I wouldn't have picked up an RPG if I hadn't played Pokemon first. I'm actually really excited about this game. Online Trading, Battling and Voice Chat over Wifi. This game is going to have it all. wow i thought pokemon was over with ages ago ! LOL! Im glad its performing well though, pokemon games at least provided a good challenge from time to time. Better than your generic puzzlers or racing games i think. Plus, the series never really worked too well in 3d, so its good to see a 2d game selling so well. ! go nintendo! At least there is SOME good news with this. As oposed to the whole sony section, plagued by people who are constantly scrapign the excuse barrel. I just want games! and the ds is perfect for this because its priced great to reach the mass market. If it wasnt for the ds, i think we would be missign out on something really important to this industry.. like.. more pokemon games ;) lol
"I would like it if Nintendo would stop making spinoffs,Pokemon Snap comes to mind..GRRR " haha! don't remind me. why, oh why, did i buy snap?!
That cool. Pokemon is a fun game so Im not to surpised that its selling like hotcakes. I would like it if Nintendo would stop making spinoffs,Pokemon Snap comes to mind..GRRR :)
I thought each had sold a million? I saw that somewhere; I guess it was just a rumor or false sales numbers. Anyways, these sales are INSANE. And it's nice to know that more players are getting Diamond, since I'm getting Pearl :)
Its the WiFi that's selling this. The game is probably on par with the previous versions, with better animations i would suspect. But the ability to battle other players on Nintendo Wireless is the big draw. A big plus for all the closet Pokemon fans. :)
Gamespot should give more credits and value to the DS, this console sells are tremendus, But Gamespot seems to keep with theyr eyes thigly closed, not recognizing the importance of the DS as a console, keeping it in the dark.
I can care less if these games look "kiddie" (such a lame termonology). Pokemon games are great RPGs and are genuinly fun. Go ahead and play your more "adult" games if you want to prove your maturity, I'm gonna have fun with this one :)
"Diamond sold 813,237 units, while Pearl moved an impressive 762,029 copies." i wonder wut will hapen in usa sell.. aniway so they means there is 813,237 Diarugas and 762,029 Parukia. they ar e not so rare afterall.
