PAX Prime takes place August 30-September 2. GameSpot will be in attendance at the event.

I would love to see a new RPG or  even another Stadium / Colosseum Pokemon game on the Wii U.

Something like XD.

That would be awesome!

Not bad, but I've been playing Youkai Watch lately, and that is also pretty good.  If it ever makes it to the west, Pokemon may have some competition.

I want to buy this game, my last Pokemon game was the Red and Blue version, a long time ago.

I wish they can update all of the older generation pokemons voices. It breaks emersion especially hearing hypno come in. The only one that sounds cool is Electivire.

The one thing I've always wanted was a merge of two regions again. They did it in Gold, Silver and Crystal so why can't we have a game that maybe lets you play in the Hoenn region after Kalos.

Make a Pokemon game where you can catch all the original Pokemon and travel to the new regions. Until then, R.I.P Pokemon

I'm really happy they updated this series. I didnt even buy black and white 2 I felt that was uneccessary. Maybe I would have liked it but I skipped it anyway. I like how you can get in line skates to move around. I know its a small touch but it seems pretty cool IMO

All I want is a legit next-gen Pokemon MMO.

In fact that's all I wanted since the day Pokemon Red came out. Ahhhh... that was the best pickup from school ever.

Mega evolutions? Pokemon is officially dead to me, and there are still only 151 Pokemon.

@Diegoctba it will be a big step up then, u will be overwhelmed by all the new pokemon but it will be good.

@Jaw7765 depends on how big the region is in each game. sinnoh and unova were huge regions. johto and kanto were both kinda small.

@Metallicwolf29 Not sure about the regions but I'm pretty sure every pokemon game has let you collect every pokemon. You might have had to beat the elite four before the others appear but it its always been possible I believe.

@Dannystaples14 you sure seem determined to remain a genwunner. doesnt matter to me, but you're missing out on way too much good stuff. as a competitive player, i find the original 151 to be too unbalanced and does not have enough variety in the battle system.

Yes, how dare they try change things up! Give us the same exact thing we're used to and when you do, we'll hate on you for not changing things up!

Lol, this will be my first one, I have played Yellow but it was my brothers and I only did a few battles.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@ziqi92 Well yeah you are either heading towards being a professional or are a professional. When you break it down into its most fundamental parts and battle competitively there probably is more to it, but most of the people on here don't battle competitively.

They probably skim through the story, beat whatever the current version of the elite four is and then stop playing or just battle their preferred six to level 100 and leave it at that. And when you do that you need to feel alive in the world. It is an RPG after all. But with the pokemon available, battling casually, they simply aren't that appealing any more.

I mean personally I haven't completed a pokemon game until I have a pokeball next to every pokemon on the pokedex. After that the only thing left would be to battle with them either competitively or otherwise. But if I'm too bored to even do that then it doesn't rank high for me as a game overall.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@abHS4L88 You are right BUT evolutions and pokemon are fundamental to the game.

Changing those things and filling the game with endless crappy pokemon is not what they should be doing.

I bet you still start the game in your house and go talk to a Prof or Dr or scientist to get your first pokemon and then start off and go scout around gyms. Why not change up the story and progression? I tell you why because that is the hardest part and they haven't got the imagination anymore to do it. I mean they can't have imagination if they are making pokemon from inanimate objects.

The series hit rock bottom at Platinum. This is starting to tunnel into the bedrock. And I am praying desperately for a cave in.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@feared4power I'm perfectly happy with change. I LIKED the new direction Microsoft was taking the Xbox One. This on the other hand isn't a change that is making the series stronger.

They have a sword for a pokemon for god sake! How can you be excited for that? I thought the stupid chandelier was terrible enough. They are objects that are not even alive and they make them into pokemon?

Come on you know they are running out of imagination with this now. It is starting to get stupid. They haven't changed the gameplay really except the sprites and the odd items since Blue but yet they keep cramming the stupid new pokemon into it. Why would I WANT to catch these pokemon if I don't care about them?

Hell they should just let you go buy your pokemon at a scrap yard because it won't be long before there are fridges and engine blocks in there as well. 2-stroke-emon, evolves into V6-emon and then into V8-emon, mega evolution into W16-emon. Like I said totally and utterly dead to me.

The ONLY thing holding me to this game at the start was the 3D. Now I wouldn't even buy it for that. Which is probably good because I sold my 3DS anyway. Totally pathetic. No wonder the Wii U is such a failure.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@Metallicwolf29 Haha yeah I did realise that when I wrote it. I played Silver a lot but in case I got the number wrong I stuck to the first 151. Ruby started to get a little rocky overall but they did grow on me a little but the next I bought Platinum was the true bottom. And I was really quite upset that they managed to put this one together.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@toshineon I liked the idea of a 3D pokemon game. But making pokemon from inanimate objects was the final nail in the coffin for me.

It is time they ditched it before they ruin one of the staples of my youth. All the hours I spent collecting pokemon cards and playing the different games. Possibly one of the main reasons I am so interested in RPGs now, and they start making rehashes of Mewtwo and making swords into pokemon?

Really sad for me, especially since a lot of the people arguing the point with me are probably quite young and won't have experienced Blue, Red, Yellow, Silver, Gold, Crystal as they were originally. Instead they have games with swords and chandeliers for pokemon.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@scowny97 Fun playing with Pokemon made from inanimate objects? Chandeliers and Swords? Rehashes of Mewtwo? If that is all they can come up with these days then I'll be happier as far into the past as possible.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@abHS4L88 The mega evolutions are a terrible idea. The entire point is to battle pokemon and make them evolve not make them evolve for a set time before they turn back again.

But how many games have there been since Blue? And they still follow the EXACT same path through the games. Surely they can think of something different which doesn't detach from the actual fun of moving from area to area and battling in gyms or whatever. Why do you have to start at your house and go see a Professor in every single game?

I didn't mean the hunting stuff seriously. I just feel that if they are going to screw up the appeal of the pokemon this much then they should do something else to increase the appeal of the game overall. After that I was just being silly.

Yeah my problem is if they must add new pokemon at least make them good ones. I understand that it is hard to think up new ones, hell I would struggle as well. But some of them are just rediculous to the point where I can't believe they ran with it. I mean how many of them are simply whiffs of smoke, or balls of fuzzy stuff with eyes? And my personal favourite the Ice Cream Cone?

Part of me thinks it is also to do with the series. In Blue, Red, Yellow. You were Ash, with rival Gary and then along the route you found, Misty and Brock. And the pokemon would appear over time in certain situations. They are in a cave so it is probable a Digglet or Geodude is going to turn up. The pokemon felt like they belonged. But an Ice Cream Cone? Where does that fit in?

I can see it now, "Where is Vanillux?", Reply, "Oh yeah it was hot the other day and I ate it by mistake". I can see no real way that that pokemon can even fit into the world and it is the same with most of the other new ones. There is no presence or charisma any more.

I kind of do wish COD would give it a rest also. There is a line and all good things need to come to an end. It would end with more dignity on the other hand if it ended right now before any more damage can be done to people like me who have Pokemon to thank for a very fun and exciting childhood.

Much better than the crappy shadow of its former self it is quickly becoming. I don't WANT to see it like that because the games ARE as you said, very awesome, it is just the pokemon are not fun any more.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@Yueh31 I haven't played either of those games in years. Also you replied to me. I put my own opinion down and yet here we are still. If it was such badly constructed argument why bother to reply at all?

Most of the pokemon on Platinum, Black, White and the most of the ones that I've seen on X and Y are terrible. They are not charismatic even in the slightest.

The problem is it isn't just a few that are bad. It is getting worse and worse every new game but the amount of pokemon that are even close to being cool or something that I would want to battle with is pretty slim now, and that even includes the starter pokemon, I mean how boring can they make them?

I played Platinum and have managed to collect every pokemon up to the ones native to the game. I a while back now gave up on them. Because they were boring as hell. A bunch of disgusting looking pokemon I couldn't care less about. THAT is what the problem is, they are so bad now that I can't even finish the game properly.

Sure the odd one might be ok. The new goat one in X/Y does look quite nice, the problem is the rest are disgraceful.

But hell it works both way if you want to waste your time with this stuff and play with the shit pokemon that they are bringing out be my guest I'll be playing the games that are coming out that are worthy of attention.

@Dannystaples14 i never said it's not important, but taste is relative, i happen to like the sword pokemon i think it has a great design and i like the fact when it is in its sheath you can see its face and at the same time i don’t care much for arcanine. But your logic is flawed, it is impossible to have 700 designs that everybody likes. That is why you have 6 pokemon in your team not 700. You  have a multitude of pokemon to choose you favorite  from. And you battle with those. But you know what’s the best part? Is that you don’t have to play it! If you want to shut yourself in your room and play pokemon silver and ffVII over and over again because  in your mind nothing will ever come close to the perfection those games represent or because a few pokemon offend your aesthetic sense you are more than welcome to do it.  Just make sure you have a more solid and maybe even constructive criticism the next time you want to make a comment.

@Dannystaples14

They didn't change it, it's still present with a couple of new additions so I don't know what you're talking about.

The Pokemon games have never really been about the story, and the progression has always been a simple formula. There is a reason why Pokemon is arguably the single most successful and popular RPG ever, because of its massive appeal that doesn't sacrifice what makes the game distinct from other RPGs.

You talked about hunting them instead, well go play Monster Hunter, also another very popular RPG that's core formula hasn't changed much that doesn't rely on a story.

I love how people like you mistake a lack of story with lack of imagination. There are only so many animals out there, real or mythical to use as inspiration. Sure it's kind of goofy that they're using inanimate objects, but at least they're adding new Pokemon each time, which helps keep the series fresh. Imagine if it was still the same 151 since the first game. Sure it's no longer about "Gotta catch em all" but the Pokemon hording aspect is still very much there and very much a driving force in the series.

Either way, you've constantly proven yourself to be rather bratty and ignorant and the fact that you're "praying desperately for a cave in" just shows it. I personally don't care for CoD and dislike how it comes out each year with barely any changes, do I want the series to crash and burn? No, I just don't bother and play other games instead of going on forums/articles and hating on it.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@Yueh31 The design of single pokemon isn't important? Are you serious?

As for the game itself it hasn't changed it core mechanics since Blue.

Also the entire motto of the game "Gotta Catch Em All" doesn't make sense if you don't actually want to catch them all because that one is actually the ugliest thing I've ever seen and I'd really rather not catch it.

I'd happily change the game to a hunting game instead of capturing them you set your dogs on them and shoot them to pieces with a shot gun. Probably make them look better.

The games themselves are ok. The RPG, puzzles, and battling is fine but like I said without actually charismatic pokemon that you WANT to catch and you WANT to fall in love with it isn't much of a game. I still to this day HAVE to have Arcanine on my team, why because it is awesome!

Ice-Cream-Cone-amon on the other hand can go do one.

Also no game is perfect. Though to be honest Final Fantasy VII and Pokemon Yellow or Silver actually come pretty close for me.

Yueh31
Yueh31

@Dannystaples14 how can you be so narrowminded? I would really like to know what kind of game meets your high standard of perfection if you judge an entrire game on the design of one single pokemon. What is it you play if you think that the best selling sistem atm (nintendo 3ds) sucks? Please, share some of your  wisdom with us. Because all I see right now is a brat who is hating on something that he most definitely has already preordered . Now I know you are going to say that you won't but the game, and that you already sold the system bla bla bla... if this is really the case then stick to it! Don't buy the game! I'm pretty sure it'll be hard on nintendo but they'll manage...

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@toshineon Yeah ok inanimate object was probably the wrong phrase to use. Those older ones though did have tonnes of charisma though. Looking at some of them now it is just like "What were you thinking?".

I mean I just had a flick through again and there is a pokemon based on an Ice Cream cone! And the Chandelier pokemon is the final evolved form of three! There is a candle, which evolves into a lantern and then into the chandelier...........I mean wow!

Also there is one thing that would have taken me off of pokemon all together and that was messing around with Mew and Mewtwo and that is exactly what they have gone and done.

toshineon
toshineon

@Dannystaples14 @toshineon I can definitely see where you're coming from, I grew up with Pokémon as well, as I'm in my twenties now, and some of the design choices they made lately are really ridiculous. But inanimate objects as Pokémon isn't something new. Way back in Blue and Red, you had Magnemite and Voltorb, not to mention Geodude (it's a damn rock). From Silver and Gold we also have Pineco. So the Pokémon designs have always been flaky. I guess what I'm ultimately trying to say is, don't ignore any game because it has design elements that you don't like, give it a shot, and then make a final judgement. If I hadn't done that, Ampharos wouldn't be my favorite Pokémon right now.

Dannystaples14
Dannystaples14

@scowny97 Yeah and most of those were crappy as well.

But they are sure more charismatic than Landorus, Thundurus, Tornadus. Look like shit and have shit names.

Keldeo? Looks like a small horse with shit loads of wigs stuck to it.

Cryogonal! What the hell is that supposed to be?

Klink Klang and Klinklang. Oh my god! No worse than Magnemite I suppose but the names!

Amoonguss.........

Vanillux.....it is an ice-cream cone!!!!!!!!!

And those are in Black and White. What monstrosities are the new ones going to be?

Well at least Xerneas looks cool.

scowny97
scowny97

@Dannystaples14 @scowny97 Gen 1: Magnets, Piles of sludge, an Upside Down Pokeball, Jynx, Groups of Eggs, A brown lump sticking out of the ground e.t.c. Gen 1 has some crap Pokemon in it just like every other Gen and Gen 1 has some awesome Pokemon in it like every other Gen. Get off your high horse and deal with the fact that Pokemon is improving with every new game.
