Pokemon sword recreated in real-life on Man at Arms

Blacksmith Tony Swatton forges a realistic version of Honedge, the sword Pokemon, then uses it to slice through a variety of objects.

When you think about making a Pokemon in real-life, the first thing that comes to mind is probably not a sharp-bladed sword crafted by a master blacksmith. But that's what swordsmith Tony Swatton has done in the latest video on his Man at Arms video series.

Swatton has forged a true-to-life version of the sword Honedge from Pokemon X and Y (minus the sentience or ability to evolve into an even more frightening creature). You can check out the full video below for a brief making-of, or skip to about 3:48 if you just want to see the finished product and watch people cut things with it.

Justin, the only gamespot Nintendo(and pokemon) fanboy editor. He can find any (good) news about nintendo and  post s**ts about "twiits play pokemon" and something about a sword (that i didn't read).

The model was not necessary at all but well ... there she is.

I am no smith and always had the impression of the craft to be more like in the old days, I am not saying it's easy but somehow disappointing to see the little effort it takes to make a blade ... it was ok in the end but I would have loved to see forged steel, wood handle, cloth attachment instead of leather and more manual tools rather than bands and drills.

Pokedex entry for honedge: "If anyone dares to grab its hilt, it wraps a blue cloth around that person's arm and drains that person's life energy completely."

Too bad!

That is such a simplistic design.  Probably took him a whole five minutes.  :P

At first I glanced at the title of the article and thought, "WTF!!!! He-Man and Pokemon... TOGETHER!!!"

Then I read a bit more and watched the video. Nice blade, but now I really want to see Misty and Teela take on Jesse and Evil-Lyn....

Honedge and its evolutions are beasts if used right

Those Pokemon devs get lazier and lazier. Just saying. What next, CanOfBeansMon, the spirit that posesses a can of baked beans?

it seems like pokemon has become less animal. they're more..."things" now.

Honedge as a Pokemon isn't a sword. it's a ghost possessing a sword. Just saying.

This show went slowly downhill just after the original series.

There's a sword Pokemon? Wow, Nintendo really ran out of ideas a long time ago, this is garbage.

They're not even trying at this point, they're just taking an object, putting eyes on it and calling it a Pokemon.

The nerd with the Pikachu shirt was not necessary at all but well...there he is

The nerd who thinks he is a fratboy with the sunglasses was not necessary at all but well...there he is

I am no smith but people should use primitive tools instead of these modern tools because they will make the video more entertaining to little manbabbies on the internet even though modern tools exist because they are superior to the tools used by primitive screw heads from hundreds of years ago.

@DarkSaber2k

I'd like to see you do better. As an artist, I struggle just to come up with one concept design, let alone dozens upon dozens.

Also this is the first form, naturally they'd look pretty basic, plus it's the first Pokemon based on a weapon.

@DarkSaber2k  Gen one is so creative, eggs with eyes, piles of goo (spell Muk backwards), Snakes, Bees and pidgeons... The best gen in terms of creativity was gen 3 and 4...
But they are not lazy, Pokémon always had it's ups and downs...

Deadlysyns87

@DarkSaber2k  They are running out of animals to use. Next would be a brick but Mario already has a Brick for an enemy

@veryDERPY Pokémon aren't animals; they're Pokémon.  Humans are animals.  Pokémon are animal...plant...fungus...machine...things.  Also, since the egg groups overlap, you can chain breed basically any two things together, which technically makes them all the same species.

Ultramarinus

@Daian The thing is that it's the best new pokemon in the game both gameplay and concept-wise, yet still better than "add a -mon suffix to an animal and be done with it" pokemons of old.

@Daian

"I clearly have no idea what I'm talking about but I'm going to pretend I do so I can criticize others."

I love how you guys seem to forget that the first form of Pokemon almost always look pretty generic or basic, on top of that what's the problem with a sword Pokemon? It's the first Pokemon (as far as I can tell) that's based on a weapon, we've had Pokemon based on pollution, food, decorations, deities, and just random things.

Also looking through all of the Pokemon introduced in X/Y, Honedge and Klefki are the ONLY ones based on objects, nearly every other Pokemon is based on some type of animal or plant, seriously not seeing any "taking an object, putting eyes on it and calling it a Pokemon." then again, when ignorance strikes, baseless assumptions are made.

@Daian Design a better Steel + Ghost-type pokémon, then.

Spoiler: you can't.

@Daian  Voltorb is literally a pokeball with fucking eyes. Muk is just a pile of shit with eyes! I don't see anyone complaining about them!

Geez, I'm so sick of these goddamn genwunners/nintendo bandwagon haters just fucking actively searching for reasons to hate on these things.

There are more lazy/uninspired designs in the original generation of pokemon than the latter generations, I can tell you that much.

BaDMantra

@leakingdogmilk @BaDMantra  Well, I agree on the first part of it, that was not necessary at all but there they are and added an extra to the show, i'm simply tired of having women been presented as things, that's all, she was cute and all but this was something for the sword not the model but that's me and I can see you clearly disagree with that so let's agree on disagree.

Now, i'm still entitle to my opinion and because of that I just took a few minutes of my time to do so but it seems like it make you uncomfortable or something like that as you took some minutes of your time to go for my throat for a comment that I aimed at no one but to the way I would have like the craft to be as I was amazed at how little time and effort it took to make the blade, mostly because it made me think of the quality of it in comparison to perhaps, forged steel, I enjoyed it thou but still believe that manual craft adds more to a finish item than a mass production item gets in comparison.

I enjoyed something like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXbLyVpWsVM) but I know it's a dying art while the other is a more efficient production technique that simply adds no extra to the equation.

My two cents. Still wtf with you man, totally uncalled for.

@david60639 @jalisdaboss  Angie Griffin is the standard women should strive for. They will fail but the effort needs to be there. OH YEA her eyes are amazing so there is more than tits, sorry you can't see that.

@Tiwill44 @Daian  I always thought they could do a ghost that's possessed bits of scrap from a junkyard to form a sort of junk golem, car headlights for eyes, legs made of tyres or barrels, stuff like that. Garbodour but badass. Then Golurk came along which was already a ghost golem but I think it would still be cool.

A spear haha, Gorluk actually looks like it should be a steel/ghost Pokemon.

@skayj2 i think you need to go and suck nintendos **** the way you're going on. how old are you 5?? the 1st gen pokemon were all believable and easy to get your head around with the odd strange one like muk and voltorb, but it seems now its every still one!

@BrunoBRS the first generation had a few wtfs too, but now it's like every other Pokemon has lazy/stupid design.
