Everyone who buys Pokemon Sun or Moon within the first two months after launch will get a special version of the Pokemon Munchlax that can evolve into "Pulverizing Snorlax."

You need to buy Sun or Moon by January 11, 2017 and connect to the internet by that date to get Munchlax. The game comes out on November 18 for Nintendo 3DS.

When you evolve Munchlax into Snorlax and give the creature a special item called Snorlium Z, it becomes capable of using a Z-Move that only it has access to. This devastating move, which has the best name--Pulverizing Pancake--sees the massive creature flatten its foe like a pancake.

This version of Munchlax can also learn the move Hold Back, which is an attack move that drops its opponent's HP down to 1. Additionally, you can teach it Happy Hour, which lets the creature receive twice as much prize money in a trainer battle. Take a look at the video above to see the Pokemon in action.

Here are the official descriptions for Munchlax and Snorlax, both of which are "normal"-type creatures:

Munchlax:

  • Munchlax is a big eater that wolfs down its own weight in food once a day, gulping it down practically without chewing! It also hides food under the hair on its body. But then it forgets about it...

Snorlax:

  • Snorlax is a Pokemon that has blocked the path of many a Trainer. It's not satisfied unless it eats in excess of 880 pounds of food every day. When it’s done eating, it promptly goes to sleep. Snorlax's typical day consists of nothing more than eating and sleeping. It gets fatter and fatter, and it moves less and less. Its stomach is extremely strong, and its digestive juices can dissolve any kind of poison, so eating rotten food doesn't affect it.

The Pokemon Company also today announced a new Alola form of Rattata. This dark/normal variant of the rat-like creature is found in urban areas of Sun/Moon's Alola region. It is nocturnal and lives in nests of several dozen. Additionally, the new version is proficient at finding food with its nose, but it won't eat stale food. "They pay no attention to foods that aren't fresh," reads a line from its description.

All of this news was announced during today's Nintendo Direct briefing. Check back soon to see a roundup of all of the news and trailers from the event.
