Nintendo has announced that it has reached an agreement with Golden Books Family Entertainment to produce miniature quiz books based on the Pokémon franchise. The books will invade stores this October. The 12 new minibooks will test the knowledge of Pokémon fans. They will be released with a special pen that readers can use in a "mark and see" format to uncover Pokémon trivia games. Each title in the series has a 3D lenticular cover and centers on a different Pokémon, including Pikachu, Bellossom, Hoothoot, and Ledyba.

As part of the quiz book advertising campaign, readers can peel off an instant-win sticker from the inside of each title. Nintendo is offering 111 prizes, including 50 Gold and 50 Silver Game Paks, ten Nintendo 64 systems, and a grand prize all-expenses-paid trip to Japan for a family of four.

"Pokémon is one of the hottest children's franchises to hit the market in the past five years," said Rich Maryyanek, Golden Books Family Entertainment's senior vice president of marketing. "We anticipate that the popularity of this property, coupled with a promotional opportunity of this magnitude, will create a retail frenzy for the Pokémon 3D Trivia Challenge minibooks."

The books will retail for US$3.99.
