Pokemon Black & White arrive in North America March 6

Nintendo's dual DS exclusives to bring bevy of all-new Pokemon to US soil in just over three months.

When Pokemon Black and White launched in Japan in September, it set a franchise record by selling more than 2.6 million copies in a single week. The twin titles--which are ranked as a single game in Japan--proved so popular that they remained on Media Create's top 10 best-seller list for 11 weeks, falling off in mid-December.

Pokemon Black and White are coming to (North) America.

Now, Nintendo has revealed when the next wave of Poke-mania will wash over US shores. This morning, the game giant announced that Pokemon Black and White will arrive in North America on March 6. As in Japan, the dual games will be exclusive to the DS suite of systems.

Pokemon Black and White introduce a handful of changes to the established gotta-catch-'em-all formula. Developer Game Freak has expanded the game's online functionality through features such as Global Link, where players can access special content by uploading their save files to a website. Black and White also introduce more than 150 new Pokemon that players can add to their Pokedexes.

As for the dual name, Nintendo traditionally releases near-identical editions of a Pokemon game under slightly different monikers, encouraging players to exchange captured monsters between versions. Pokemon Black will feature an exclusive city, while Pokemon White will sport a lush forest region. Both games will feature changing seasons for the first time.

Pokemon will continue until they stop making money from it. If you hate the series don't play it....how simple is that? Anyways, I'm ready for this game! I'm getting the White Version. SN: Why is racism brought up every time the words "Black" and "White" is mentioned in the same sentence? 0_o

They already have stuff up advertising these at my local EB Games. Hopefully that means Oz gets it before America :D

@fleurxx I can't believe how wrong you are. I believe you've been mistaken for Call of Duty.

Reading through the comments people post. The way they attack one another. Gamespot's conversation threads are at the risk of turning into a derailment from relevant topics like discussions on YouTube videos. Still doesn't mean that it ain't fun to take sides. :) I'm glad that even though Pokemon sells millions, Nintendo still decides to improve and change the game before selling more games. Means they are not trying to milk us.

Emperiox, with Runescape, it's not particularly engaging. Pokemon is incredibly popular with, say, human beings, for many reasons, one of which being the great value of engagement.

Not really. They're all different in their unique ways.

DanielL5583 Are you kidding me? They've all been repackaged versions of the very first two.

Pokemon is pretty good, but I do think that The Pokemon Company are running out of ideas ridiculously fast. Soon we could end up with a repackaged version of the older ones. That said, I think this'll be awesome.

@kavadias1981 I understand you when you say that they've made pokemon into a kids franchise. I agree.. I feel as if in America its directed more to kids more than anything.. but i could care less. Im 25 going onto 26.. my wife even plays it.. its addicting, fun and challenging at times. I enjoy playing it. So if im a kid then im a kid. So what..

This looks terrific, can't wait to get it later this year. And will people PLEASE stop talking about age here, just mentioning it makes the pointless "debate" spread. Games are for everyone, and even if the marketing is towards a particular group doesn't mean no-one else can enjoy it.

vega13mv
vega13mv

there are also many other games that are openly marketed towards children, Mario, Donkey Kong and Kirby for example, doesn't mean an adult male can't appreciate it. Yeah they're kiddy, but they're fun, isn't that what games are supposed to be? I enjoy games like Half-Life, Red Dead and Mass Effect too but that doesnt mean those are the only games i'm gonna play simply because they're more "mature." I couldn't care less about what other people think is an appropraite game for me, I just play whatever's fun man.

@badfishBTK social suicide was a tad too strong a description and i take it back but I would find it embarrassing to play it in public. i would be too concerned about looking like the 50 year old pokemaniac who kanyetwitty described as an awful loser. I know i would think the same thing about a guy like that and many people might too. but that is where i come back to idea of pokemon no longer being a stand alone game and is rather a part of children's culture. and it is that which i resent. look at professor layton. it is marketed as an adult game so it becomes acceptable for any adult to play it without the risk of looking like a dork. no matter what anyone says, we all care about what people think of us to some degree. I wouldn't mind publicly playing a game which looks kiddy, like mario. But mario is marketed as a game for all ages, so it becomes socially acceptable. I just need to make it clear to everyone, im not having a go at pokemon, i did that in my first post. It is age specific marketing that im annoyed at. It dictates what is socially acceptable for people of a certain age to play.

salvucci91
salvucci91

@kavadias1981 You either have a social anxiety or ego problem. Wearing Pokemon t-shirts on a regular basis or bringing a pikachu plush where ever you go is definitely for the kids (or the adults who never grew up), but why does playing the addicting RPG that is Pokemon in public make you feel akward? If you're waiting on a bus, it's just you sitting there playing a game to pass time; you're not doing anything crazy.

I was totally not looking out for these games, but looking at these comments and the amount of positivity within them, I'm all of a sudden finding myself hyped for Pokemon Black & White's release! And yeah, changing seasons. I'm totally in. :D I recall playing Sapphire to death back on the GBA. Then Diamond on the DS but then called it quits. Tried and true formula, for sure. But it gets a little stale y'know! Anyway, can't wait!! I'm personally wanting Black as I'd prefer having the bonus city than a forest. Also, here's to hoping we get Miles Edgeworth: Ace Attorney Investigations 2 as well.

@kavadias1981 I understand what you're getting at, and I guess I go through the same thing. Im only 26, my girlfriend def. laughs and rolls her eyes, but its not 'social suicide'. Its just a matter of taking what people say personally. My friends also love to rip on me, but that is of no concern to me, as long as I am doing something that I personally enjoy(and as long as it doesnt affect anyone) their opinion shouldnt even come into the equation. If people are going to honestly make fun of you to the point where you feel ashamed, are they really your friends anyway? I say just do what you love. As long as they continue to put quality pokemon titles out I will continue to purchase and play them well into my golden years.

this is the only reason why im getting a ds.

hotdiddykong

@GameReviewGuru Some people are to believe that the only purpose of pokemon is to "Catch them all" Even if you did you got nothing, Over the years, pokemon changed, ALLOT, its not easy now, its very hard to make your own competitive team because of Natures and IV/EV's now. Its hard to explain for all you guys but imagine your battling someones charizard with your own charizard, and your both level 100, You did Flamethrower and it did 1/4 damage, now your opponent did Flamethrower, you expect it to be the same right? wrong, he ends up doing 3/4 of your health because of the circumstances. Every single pokemon has its own stats and never the same, Catching 2 pikachus, they'll both have different stats because of the Nature, IV's it has and the amount of EV's you use on it. Sounds complicated now right? Pokemon is pretty much the most complicated RPG out there, now can you go out and say "only kids play pokemon" most of them dont even know this and think its about getting to level 100, well its not.

@kavadias1981 OK I think I see where you're going with this, and I suppose when you put it that way playing games when you're 22 vs. 29 is an entirely different affair, but I think that my generation of gamers (and I don't mean any superiority when I say that) probably won't look at things quite the same way, or at least I hope not. I must admit, when I played the Pokemon tournament this year and saw the the senior champion was someone who nearly 50, I thought to myself what kind of an awful loser he must be. Plus, I suppose I am blessed with having a girlfriend and friends who grew up playing these things and are just as big of nerds as I am.

kavadias1981
kavadias1981

@kanyetwitty You know just as well as I do that the rating is an indication of the suitability of the content, not its level of acceptance. What I meant by it once being an any age game was that before the merchandising and silly cartoons and the like, pokemon was just a great game. Now due to the above, it has become a part of children's culture. Perhaps you, your girlfriend and friends are the type who can enjoy childish things together, and there is nothing wrong with that. But in my social circle, and that of many men my age (29), being caught playing a kids game is social suicide. Yes, this is a personal concern, but it is the fact that childish merchandising and marketing have turned a game i enjoyed into something which i can no longer play publicly without feeling uncomfortable, which annoys me.

KanyeTwitty
KanyeTwitty

@kavadias1981 I would argue that's a personal problem. I don't think anyone has ever downed me for playing Pokemon games. Not even last year when I got SoulSilver. I'm 22 years old, my girlfriend plays it, my best friend plays it, and tens of thousands of other people my age I'm sure. I'm also confused at what you mean by it once being an "any-age" franchise. Pretty sure the whole Pokemon media blitz was centered on children. I would argue unless you're playing a Sesame Street game, or something of that nature, any RPG/ platformer/ puzzle game (whatever) rated E just means... everyone.
