Sony announced Wednesday that it is ending support for a pair of PlayStation Vita apps.

The system's YouTube app will vanish from the PlayStation Store today, January 28, and will no longer be supported after April 20. Users can still watch YouTube videos on their PS Vita through the system's browser, complete with playlists and channels, however.

The YouTube app for PS Vita was originally introduced in June 2012.

The other app getting kicked to the curb is Maps. All features of the app, and some features of the PS Vita's Near app, will be disabled through a March 2015 software update, Sony explained.

Sony notes that the removal and disablement of the PS Vita's YouTube and Maps apps will not affect gameplay in any way.

The company did not provide any explanation for why it is removing the apps. More information about the closure of both apps is available through the links below.
