PlayStation UK boss Fergal Gara has addressed the recent announcement that Capcom's upcoming fighting game Street Fighter V will be released exclusively on console for PlayStation 4.

Speaking today in London, Gara said he didn't have a hand in forging the deal with Capcom, but said he believes the Street Fighter franchise's "natural home" is on PlayStation.

"I wasn't involved, so how it came about I can't comment on, but I think it's another fantastic example of how our heritage provides some fantastic opportunities not just to reminisce but to look forward as well," Gara explained to IGN.

"Obviously it's a classic from earlier PlayStation days, but now it's being reintroduced for the PS4 era," he added. "It was a huge hit on PlayStation, so I guess you could say Street Fighter's natural home is on PlayStation. Now, I'm delighted that's going to happen again in this cycle."

Street Fighter V is also coming to PC, and cross-platform play will be supported. Capcom has not announced a release date for Street Fighter V nor has it confirmed the game's fighter roster yet.

In the wake of the exclusivity announcement, Microsoft's gaming boss Phil Spencer spoke out about the news and vowed to make amends to Xbox fans.
