PlayStation-exclusive Assassin's Creed IV levels will remain exclusive

Ubisoft confirms Aveline-focused DLC for PS3 and PS4 will not be released on other platforms after video suggested six-month exclusivity.

by

The PlayStation-exclusive levels for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag will remain exclusive indefinitely, Ubisoft confirmed today with Eurogamer.

A trailer for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag released last week suggested that the downloadable content would be released as a timed-exclusive on PlayStation for a period of six months.

However, Ubisoft told Eurogamer today the content will not be released on other platforms at all, remaining exclusive to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag features 60 minutes of additional content on PS3 and PS4, focusing on Assassin's Creed III: Liberation protagonist Aveline de Grandpré.

The three new missions take place after the conclusion of Liberation, and are independent of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag's main campaign. For more on Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, check out GameSpot's review.

Ubisoft's 2014 open-world game Watch Dogs will also feature PlayStation-exclusive content (exclusive to the platform for six months), though details about these extras have not been specified.

Tis only applies to consoles.

The PC version is also getting this, in the gold/deluxe edition it clearly states:

  • Aveline Pack:
    • 60 minutes of additional gameplay featuring Aveline de Grandpré from Assassin's Creed III Liberation
    • Unlockable Aveline ship figurehead

thats kinda like a big f u to m$ for all the times they paid developers off for timed exclusives.

Did you have to preorder to get this content? This is the first one I didn't preorder, and also the first that I wasn't going to get on PS3. Was just holding off for the PC release.

Finding out there was exclusive content - Meh . . .

Finding out that it was timed exclusive content - Care less . . .

This article saying its not timed exclusive content - Dumb and care less. . .

Finding people on here whining about it - Priceless

I guess this is the new form of exclusivity. Last gen it was timed exclusive DLC, this gen it will be totally exclusive DLC. Eh I haven't bought much DLC period but it does suck I'll say that.

I was on the Titanfall exclusivity story an hour ago chatting it up and I'd like to say that even as an Xbox fan myself I prefer timed exclusives over pure exclusives. I think a good game should be on as many platforms as possible.

This is just fuckin stupid. ALL PLATFORMS (PC, 360, X1, PS3, PS4, etc etc) should get these bonus levels too. The game itself is NOT exclusive for Christ sake!!!

To be realistic, I have yet to play Tyranny, or any of the PS3 exclusive content on AC3 (And I even have the PS3 version and the 360 version) and I stopped giving any fucks about AC3 after about 1.5 months. I played AC4 for 2 hours today and stopped caring before the end of chapter 2. Call it the "Six games of the exact same gameplay" fatigue.

But this is still bullshit.

Dear Ubi, fuck yourselves. Quit with this bollocks. Do you understand most gamers actually own both consoles? You would expect us to buy two copies of the same game (not that I don't do it) to actually enjoy all of the content?

*console exclusive* is the proper term.

The Aveline missions are part of either the Digital Deluxe Edition or Gold Edition for PC as well, both on Steam and on Uplay. ;)

They did ask Aveline if she wanted to go multiplat, but she replied "I don't want to end up on no XBONE!". Stupid fangirl. :P

(Note: This was a parody. I do not have any allegiance to either game console or company, and do not condone the use of terms such as fanboy/girl or Xbone. It is also extremely sad that I even felt the need to put a disclaimer like this in here, lol).

That sucks. I mean I don't plan on playing this, and if I did it would be on PS4, but I mean come on. It's one thing to have an exclusive game; but to only hold parts of that game exclusive?

I dunno, kind of a wank move to me

I own all of these for the ps3 anyway so fuck you Sony

Exclusive content and pre-order bonuses tend to be mediocre at best.  No real loss here for MS.

Suuuuuuuuure. More like Sony begged them to take it back because they were losing sales. We all know Sony can't afford exclusive deals anymore, and AC:Liberation HD proves it. Ubisoft wants money, Sony can't pay them anymore for full exclusive rights.

FYI, I discovered an easter egg in AC4. It connects AC to Watch Dogs.

No they won't. They will eventually end up on PC. Anyone that believe otherwise will believe anything.

That's the way to enrage potential customers! Great job Ubisoft!

So I get a incomplete game just for purchasing it on a different platform? Yeah, I'll pass >.>

Yes, they will remain exclusive...

To PlayStation and PC.

Thanks Ubisoft, as a PC gamer I thank you for that (same move as with AC3's missions).

On the other hand, there's that problem with Steam and how North America get the Gold Edition while others can only buy the Digital Deluxe Edition - same price, minus Season Pass.

@PSYCHOV3N0M Yea like...it's really ridiculous. They do it to try to sway people towards one system, or another, which I really don't understand. We bought your game. You shouldn't deprive us of the entire game just because we bought it for Xbox, or we bought it for Wiiu, or for PS3, 4, or One, you are still getting a sale out of it.

@Lord yes but some people would like to play it, who didn't play Liberation. Just like the liberation port that probably won't be multi-plat.

LordCrash88
LordCrash88

@PSYCHOV3N0M Well, the exclusive content is really a spin-off. It has nothing to do with Edward or the AC4 story.

@foxrock66 I agree. I didn't like it when it happened to me on Skyrim with the vampire DLC and I don't like it now that it's happening again to me on Xbox One with AC4. Ehh it's why I don't put much stock in DLC anyways.

@Pakundo I preordered the Gold Edition at Nuuvem. :)

@Pakundo Not the same price. US taxes are not included in that price.

@Pakundo I played the extra 15 minutes of the boring Benedict Arnold dlc and if it weren't free it'd be a rip off

LordCrash88

@Grenadeh The Liberation port is already announced for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC... ;)

But I agree that exlusive stuff sucks in general. Only this time, it's not that hard because the stuff is not really part of the game.

King_Wii

@LordCrash88 @Grenadeh I have all three from last gen. This gen I have a Wii U, and a preordered Xbox One. I do plan on getting a PS4 some time down the road I just don't know when. Its like that for me. I pick one system at launch and then work on the others as the generation continues.

LordCrash88
LordCrash88

@King_Wii @LordCrash88 @Grenadeh No question there are people who own more than one system. But I doubt that they are the majority of poeple buying these games. Maybe later in the console cycle when the prices go down but not in the first two or three years.

But indeed I know many people who own a gaming PC and one of the consoles, that's true. I would like to see a really in-depth statistics/analysis about that topic..... ;)

@LordCrash88 @focuspuller Anyone can buy anything on pre-order. You can buy a game on Kickstarter that comes out two years from now. If it's not out yet then it's not available.

Living in the bubble is fine, just remember there is a world outside it.

LordCrash88

@focuspuller @LordCrash88 Look it up yourself, dude. Eventually means that something will happen sometimes in the future. You don't use the term for already available or given things.... ;)
