PlayStation App arrives November 13

Free app to arrive for iOS and Android devices ahead of PlayStation 4 launch next month; features detailed.

by

Sony today announced that the PlayStation App will be released for iOS and Android devices on November 13 in North America and November 22 in Europe. The app will be free.

The PlayStation App can be used as a second-screen for various PlayStation 4 games and will allow users to access numerous PlayStation Network services.

Users can access their PlayStation profile using the app and compare their Trophy accomplishments against friends and others. The PlayStation App also allows users to exchange messages across PS4, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 3.

The PlayStation App also lets users browse the PlayStation website to view news, blogs, and game details.

For supported games, like preinstalled PS4 game The Playroom, the PlayStation App can be used as a second-screen device. In this game, users can draw pictures on their mobile device and the "flick" their creations onto the TV where they will be modeled in 3D.

Users can also spectate live and recorded PS4 gameplay through the PlayStation App, able to leave comments as well.

Lastly, the PlayStation App can be used to purchased content from the PlayStation Store or as a remote to control the PS4 (as long as both devices have access to the same Wi-Fi access point).

Sony also today detailed the PS4's day-one patch. It will introduce a host of features and services, including voice commands and facial recognition support, as well as Remote Play and the Share functionality.

Good News, I have wanted something like this. I have the surface app, but I wanted sony to make one too.

This sounds like they are taking a step closer to how I hoped the PS3 and PSP would interact.

I can see this escalating to the Vita being a rear view mirror during Drive Club or GT7 or a mini-map for the likes of Killzone. Small advantages but not game breaking.

Not sure if this would translate well to a tablet or other mobile device but I have waited many long years to see some more significant interconnectivity between Sony devices

Aww.... No Windows support? Cmon Sony! Microsoft is sticking a blu-ray player in the Xbox One, the least you can do is give Windows users an app to access their Sony accounts.

Another copy/paste off of xbox one. It's looking more an more like a Xbox 4.

Wow, we android users actually get one these apps too, cool. Getting tired of devs who think all people have some Apple iCrap in their pockets.

So is this just an update to the current PlayStation app or an entirely new app?

Well isn't this interesting, I just read the article about how Sony didn't want a touch screen on the controller cause the developers cried it was too distracting and it would cost more money.  So I read this line of this article "The PlayStation App can be used as a second-screen for various PlayStation 4 games "  WOW, isn't that something!?  Looks like they want a touch screen after all in one sense.

Hell, it's free, so why wouldn't I get it. Sounds like a good way to organise some online gaming sessions and make sure the engine's running before I'm even home.

On another note: Jesus! Seriously get someone to proof read before you shatter the fundamentals of grammar for the whole of the english speaking world.

This app deff seems to be heading in the right direction. It already looks like this app is going to give that next gen feel we all want. I think the ability to spectate other players games from the app is awesome.

Does the Vita support a similar PS4 App? In case my phone doesn't support the firmware app requirement.

"Users can access their PlayStation profile using the app and compare their Trophy accomplishments against friends and others. The PlayStation App also allows users to exchange messages across PS4, PlayStation Vita, and PlayStation 3." Finally, because I was always afraid to use 3rd party trophy tracking apps.

@Diegoctba

Your gaming must not be very exciting if you do it all on your iPhone and iPad.

@Diegoctba I couldn't give a crap if every Apple device caught fire. So no, not everybody wants or needs the success of iOS.

@ZombieGuyGeorge @Sumpskildpadde No, cause I'm buying a ps4 :) I bought my phone a year ago, and didn't even consider that it would have anything to do with the next gen consoles. I should just gotten an android phone.

@ZombieGuyGeorge @PlatinumPaladin Or beginning a sentence with 'because' and without a capital letter.

Don't be awkward. 'Lol' is an acceptable way of expressing tone or attitude in an informal setting in a medium where it's difficult to do so, and anyone who texts or comments on forums is probably be used to it. Eddie's a professional journalist publishing articles. He should have a handle on basic grammar, but instead he completely ruins the flow of text as the reader has to backtrack in an attempt to make sense of the massacre of the English language. So no, 'lol' doesn't shatter the fundamentals of grammar harder than anything.
