PlayStation 4 listed for A$899 at EB Games Australia

PlayStation 4 console listed at Australian retailer EB Games for preorder at A$899; final price yet to be announced.

'

Just a few hours ago, Sony unveiled the PlayStation 4 console at a live event in New York. While Sony has yet to announce an official price for the console, Australian retailer EB games has listed the PS4 on its website, available for preorder at a placeholder price of A$899.

EB Games has made clear that the amount is a placeholder, with the preorder page stating: "final price yet to be announced."

The listing page also includes an array of launch titles announced at the PlayStation event for the PS4, including Watch Dogs, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Drive Club, and Infamous: Second Son. At the time of writing, all games are listed at a preorder price of A$118.

This would not be the first time the retailer has estimated the launch RRP of a Sony console, with the PS Vita receiving similar treatment prior to its launch.

Sony announced the PlayStation 4 during a live broadcast today. The console is expected to be released during the 2013 holiday season.

$900 in Australia?

That means $450 in the rest of the world!YAY!!:D

Everyone thats going into a panic needs to understand: That is just like an estimated price for "AUSTRALIA", and its likely accurate. If the system ends up cheaper, then the AUSTRALIANS will be refunded, not ninja'd. (Im sure the Australians pray the price doesn't go higher, more so then the price lowering).

Australia sucks and they must pay far more for such things, So in North American(I mean: Canada, U.S.A, Mexico; not northern U.S.A) will pay the around the rumored prices of 400-500.
Althoe I say the prices will be 449 and 549(But that's based on the rumor pricing, I would expect $50 more).

Games will likely be $59-69 in NA, while in Australia .. i guess about.. $80-90

I think people should actually read the article, EB Games pulled this price out of their arse so they could get the console into their database as quickly as possible. Heck EB Games for many years had Resident Evil Portable available for pre-order in their system and it was pure vapourware. It's greed on wheels and the Department of Fair Trading really needs to introduce laws that will stop this kind of thing. I mean as soon as GTA5 was announced every Australia retailer started to accept orders for a PC version that has yet to be confirmed by Rockstar themselves.

My local ebgames confirmed this $899 number was pulled from thin air, and could swing in either direction closer to launch. Nobody but Sony currently has any idea what the pricing will be.

Man even if this was true. I ain't buying it on release date. No way. I will wait until there is a price drop before i buy a next gen console.

Just out of curiosity, what is one Australian dollar in Canadian dollars? What is minimum wage in AUS?

SuperDutchy

It specifically says "placeholder". They could have just as easily put $000.00 or $999.99. People read into this way too much.

Will the PS4 be playable at the EB Expo this year - if you cast your mind back to 2011 the Vita wasn't playable.

pqwoei

My budget is up to 400 bucks if it's above that then I'll have to wait for a price drop

I can feel for people who can't purchase a launch PS4 because of the price. But it still won't be released until - at best - end of the year; most likely early 2014, so start saving. If you're complaining the price is too high, then complain all you want, you'll just be PS4-less, and you'll just have to wait for that price drop. Either way complaining about it seems borderline retarded behaviour.

Lets just wait to see the official price, and in the meantime EB go F*** yourself.

Oh my God. I just looked up the price in a Currency Converter, A$899 would be the equivalent to $925 DOLLARS here in the USA. I hope this is some lame rumor.

JM_chief93elite
JM_chief93elite

WHAT A JOKE!!!!!!!!  Rumors are it will be around $400 in the USA, so why is it going to be double in AUS?

Go to hell EB games, if you keep ripping off the public everyone with half a brain is going to purchase their  games and ps4's overseas.

Not surprised in the slightest, the PS3 cost Sony $800 USD to produce and they were being sold at a loss at release.

Why are the games so pricey? haven't they noticed the AUD is on parity with the USD?

Jshaw71

Good luck getting mature rated games AU :( I feel for you folks...

mrklorox

Yep. Consoles in Australia cost proportionately as much as videogames there compared to the US. Games regularly run around $110 AUD compared to the $60 in the US. Of course consoles would be nearly double the price as well.

If you're in the US, then don't piss yourself worrying about the cost because it will be lower in your territory.

i was hoping itll be round $500, but im sold on the ps4 so ill pay that no problem, i jus hope theres cool deals on launch like with killzone and get another controller etc...ps4 is looking good :D

900 hundred dollars?!!!! WTF?!!!!!  i could never pay that much! in may country that is 4000000 T! holy cra* this is not good.

blackothh

my number one feature need in a new console is backwards compatibility, from which i hear is not all there, so i would rather just take that money and put it towards upgrade parts to my PC

The_Red_Shadow
The_Red_Shadow

I don't know exactly how it will be in Australia as I don't live there but with all of the pre-orders I do nowadays they don't actually charge you until release day.  Therefore, whatever price might be showing now, it will get sorted out on the day it matters.

BS no freaking way! someone is just trying to make money on naive kids who are hyped for the console.

If the price is equal to the ps3 whem launched, will be like 1000-1200 USD in Brazil...

grbolivar

Those are not the final prices, this overpricing is a normal behavior of online retailers for incoming products, even amazon priced WiiU games at 100$ before the final prices were revealed.

sam628

l wouldn't be surprised if ps4 cost $899 dollars because in australia we get ripped of most off the time by consumer electronics and we pay more than the rest of the world for no good reason

@Oldboy08

1 Australian dollar currently = 1.06 Canadian Dollars. Minimum wage is $15.96 per hour or $606.40 per week.

@SuperDutchy If people want to put a load of money down for the system, why not right?. Dunno why peeps all uppity about the price, thats probably right for Aust.

@pqwoei I would say start saving, but i guess your piggy bank can only hold 400? :)

Master_Vexov

@mhj0808 Australia pays more then North Americans do, so really if the system was $900 for them, then its about $600 for NA.

Noloana

@JM_chief93elite

In the US you will probably be looking somewere between 400-500 but in aus we have a tax for everthing import tax and the killer gst ads 10% to any overseas price tag.

and as for purchasing from overseas with the connection purchases because our power outlets are different, plus delivery costs, plus insurance.

you would not be looking at much less then that $900 price tag weigh that up against a 3 week postage wait.

either way ive already pre ordered mine here, praying that the price is less so that way i have more to spend on games.

@Jshaw71

You need to keep up with the news. We DO have an R18+ rating now :-)

But I won't be playing them on a PS4 unless it comes in at around $500 Aussie.

@robbiejones You (And everyone who thinks like you) are the reason Oz games are double the price of US games... The whole "I'll pay, no problem" attitude has allowed retailers to gouge the public (In all sectors) with ridiculous prices when compared to the US.

If you all stood up and gave EB the finger and told them that you won't pay a cent above the US price, and actually stuck to your guns, they wouldn't have a choice but to bend to the consumers' demands or face bankruptcy.

I know this was a "placeholder" price (But learn about markets and anchoring, a high placeholder price will only make you relieved when they reveal it's $800, still almost double the US speculated price). I'll pay the US-equivalent price, no more, and I have a couple of US friends who'd be happy to bring one along for me on their trips to Oz.

Atheosis

@robbiejones That's a pretty good guess I suspect.  I also have a feeling games are going to jump from $60 to $70.

@danaterlord and what was the launch price for Playstation 3? PS2? PS1? they all started around  a 1000 and quickly came down to a more reasonable price. The hype usually means some people will over pay.

@blackothh Classic games will be streamed plus you will have to buy a subscription and don't forget there won't be many classic games on release if it fails don't expect anymore.

@saoe

Why no way? The PS2 on launch was $1000; the PS3 $850.

I don't see the PS4 being less than $800; maximum $1000.

Nothing new it seems to me.

@grbolivar nah, we are talking about the Australian retailer 'EB games' here. It is highly likely that they will charge a significant fraction higher than the RRP.

@sam628 Take it up with your government and their import pricing. In the end your government has made it a huge hassle for the gaming industry with their terrible ratings on games, censoring, and importing so after all the crap they have to go through just to provide you games, I wouldn't be surprised at the huge price hike for their efforts.

@Daemoroth @robbiejones i actually buy my games etc from the UK, i get it within a week. I only buy consoles from aussie stores, since the last console i bought was a ps3 and that was in 2007 ill happily pay whatever it is that EB games sells it as, or ill buy it from jbhifi ill see closer to time

Master_Vexov
Master_Vexov

@megakick @blackothh The streamed list will be short, slow coming, and only touch like 3% of the library.

As for not buying the system cause it doesn't have BC, well did you skip the PS3/360 cause they didn't have BC?. (well i guess PS3 did support it, then Sony was like: OMG MONEY, and took out the 20$ chip). Comprimise would be to allow the purchase of the chip and easy install so customers could play PS2 on PS3, but this would halt sales on PS2 merchandise.

Tsk tsk - common attempt at insult from everyone around the world suffering from the effects of the oh-so-smart US-British banker brothers who ruined most of the world  -- yet these 'criminals' you speak of, managed to pull out the smartest. Seems jealousy is the culprit here.

Might just go and preorder this so-called PS4 tomorrow, since Australia's lovely conditions won't prevent me, even if the price is higher.

P.S. Suck my d***! :)
