PlayStation 4 advertisement shows 2013 launch in the UK

Sony had yet to formally state the machine would reach the UK this year.

by

A full-page advertisement has appeared in the United Kingdom's Metro newspaper this morning, which states that the PlayStation 4 will see a UK launch later in 2013.

"Now is the time," states the advertisement. "The world's greatest players are going to entertain, create, and amaze on the ultimate stage. This year a new generation will push boundaries of play and share in moments of wonder. This year players will become legends."

Sony had yet to formally date the PlayStation 4 for a 2013 launch outside of North America, though US retailer GameStop had previously said the machine's 2013 launch would be global.

The PlayStation 4 was officially unveiled by Sony back in February, though in recent weeks the publisher has been gearing up for a reveal of the hardware itself at E3 2013 in June.

Microsoft earlier this week announced its next-gen competitor, the Xbox One. The machine will also launch in 2013.

So I'm not the only one who sees the blatant MS slant to all content on this site. Even the links at the top of every page prominently display a big green Xbone link, but nothing about ps4. Along with the whiny Brits that seem to host every show on this site now, I just can't take this site seriously anymore.  Do they think listening to whining is any more enjoyable because the person whining has a British accent?

A day later and the picture issue still has not been resolved. "News Editor" must not include editing pictures.

Just saw "PS4 coming 2013" rolling cross the commercial banners surrounding the fotball field during the CL final tonight. Hoping that if the UK gets the console this year I hope it's the same for all of Europe since I live in Sweden.

Just thought someone might be interested.

I'm partly with Microsoft on the plan of not needing a disc every time a game is played. A no disc hack as it were for PC users but on a console. I never tend to buy used games, and haven't in the past due to many I've bought previously having sub-par discs (scratches, etc). This is one thing you wouldn't have to worry about so much if you only had to insert the disc once to install it.

I hope sony doesn't decide to make an internet connection required and lets used games be free. They could win this generation if they don't make the same mistake as microshit.

GS makes a mistake about the picture of the article, all comments are about the error.

I know the system has not long been announced.. but seriously GameSpot?!

The god damn thing is everywhere!!  Practically the entire website is covered in green patterns and 'X' symbols.. then you have the incredible intelligence to link what seems the ONLY PS4 article with an XboxOne picture.

Skillz.

Upon reading the title I was like, 'wtf, they said it would launch this year?!' Then I realised it is 2013... Lol, being a hermit (sitting at home and gaming all day) has its downsides, losing track of time being one of them.

@__Metallica It probably will. There's no reason to launch the console in the UK, then launch it several weeks/months later in the rest of Europe. Shipping isn't a problem.

@cf_Kage Stop thinking about yourself ALONE. Everyone else is not you. Is it so hard to see regardless of my situation someone's could be worse? Gaming was never segregated or relegated to first world countries before. Why are we so selfish and happy that companies love money so much to alienate some game lovers. That is why we have gaming machines to game. MS is the worst thing that happened to the gaming industry save for Live and achievements.

@Sun-Tzu-GEon regards to used games fees

"It's a publisher decision," Sony said in February. "We are not talking about it. Sorry."

we're not out of the water yet.

@whiteagle18

Wait, it's WHAT year?  Oh my gosh, Marty McFly, we've got to go BACK.  Back.. to the FUTURE!!!!

(Which is apparently 2015, at which point we will have hoverboards)

@painpas @cf_Kage I stated my opinion. That was MY OPINION. Deal with it.

On another matter, its rather obvious hackers will find some way to keep a game they've sold by finding a way into the system.

@HairyMetalHead @Sun-Tzu-GE Yeah,that's what I was worried about too.But if I'm not connected to the internet ,they can't know a game is used. All I hope is that it doesn't require an internet connection at all.

@cf_Kage  Wow, a person who has heard of opinions. You should recieve a Platinum Trophy for that.

@Sun-Tzu-GE @HairyMetalHead  The true issue here, is that techincally, Sony doesn't have to do a thing for games to lock you out of buying used.  EA could make it so the disc won't start at all unless you redeem a one-time use code packaged with the game, or pay them a fee to unlock it, instead of just locking the online component like they've done this gen.  I believe this is more what Sony is saying on the issue, they won't mandate something like MS is, but they aren't going to ask publishers like EA, Activision, and Ubisoft not to do it themselves for PS4 games either.
