Play Battlefield 4 PC Free for a Week

EA's Game Time promotion returns with seven days of free game time for most recent entry in the shooter series.

The latest addition to Electronic Arts' Game Time promotion for Origin on PC is Battlefield 4, the most recent entry in the publisher's blockbuster shooter series. Game Time is a new promotional service that lets you play EA games on PC for free for a set period of time. In the case of Battlefield 4, you can play for an entire week, which comes out to 168 hours.

You have until August 14 at 10 AM PDT to add Battlefield 4 to your Origin game library. The Game Time clock starts when you launch the game, so the time you need to download and install it is not counted in the 168 total hours. Once you choose to start the clock, however, it will count down whether or not you're actually playing the game.

Origin Game Time for Battlefield 4 is not yet available everywhere, but it should roll out worldwide "over the next few hours," EA says.

If you decide to buy Battlefield 4 after your Game Time expires, your in-game progress is saved, allowing you to pick up where you left off. The Game Time promotion began in June with Titanfall, which was available to play for 48 hours.

Game Time is the second goodwill program EA has launched for Origin this year. It follows Origin's "On the House" promotion, which offers up a free game to keep. The current free game is Wing Commander III. Others have included Battlefield 3 and Dead Space.

The next entry in the Battlefield series is Battlefield Hardline, which was recently delayed from fall 2014 to early 2015.

Play a buggy mess for a week!  Thanks EA your the best.

EA seems to be pretty desperate recently, knowingly devaluating their franchises (their own words) by offering them for free.

Looks like they have a target number of registered Origin accounts to reach until the end of Q3 to keep receiving funding by their investors or something along that line.

Still not going to install Origin, especially for a time limited demo of a casual shooter with a crap campaign or a time limited demo of a dumbed down village sized city builder.

Well even with all the bugs I do think Battlefield 4 does improve a lot on Battlefield 3. I doubt I will buy another Frostbite 3 engine game at launch tho.

But you can give it a try for free....if you hate EA but have an Origin account look at it this way...if you download it it will cost EA server costs. I've played BF4 for 120 hours thus far.

They're that desperate eh? I traded in that piece of sheit game PS3 version and i will never ever play it again.

Well i hate EA more than any one. But recently as EA change its attitude, it takes place in my heart. I appreciated their recent moves. Like few hit games are totally free like BF3 and now BF4 free for a week. Well i think they should continue their work like that and people will no more hate him. Good job EA

I think its really awesome to enable people to play it for free.  Little confused though, can you play it until august 14th? or is it just simple allowed to play for 168 hours worth?
If it EA is just letting people play for 168hrs then you could spread that over a month period if you only play a couple hours a day?

That's a great deal.  Unfortunately, long term BF4 players are so good, that anyone just starting now will be chewed up and spit out like so much noob gristle.  These competitive shooters need to figure out a way to have a kiddie pool instead of throwing someone into the deep end with the people who have played every day since launch.  I'm level 30 on Titanfall having just bought it, and I'm playing with gen 10 level 50 people which is just dumb.

I'll be honest. I'm going to use it as a tool to benchmark my laptop.

Nice to see EA doing more stuff like this, BF4 didn't meet expectations on launch but has had a good amount of time to be patched up I'm hoping I enjoy this free chunk of time to test it out.

Log in, game, and service is broken... I do not think EA knows anything about computers or technology and obviously what consumers want.

Just checked the link, it says

Game Time is Taking a Break.

Check back soon, your next Origin Game Time session is on the way.

So even if I wanted to try this I can't.

they should have patched the CTE fixes before letting people try bf4 broken.

lol. The games player base is decreasing no doubt about it. BF3 was going stronger after 2 years then BF4 after 10 Months.

Is the single player available for this B4 or is it just multiplayer that's free for a week?

It plays much better now from what I can see; when it works IMO its funniest game on next gen consoles.

Meanwhile, Casey Hudson leaves Bioware and EA. Ain't that weird?

Play for free for a week.  Get owned for a week by premium players.  At least the premium players will get some good stat padding.

Since it's free for PC this week i will give it a try. I mean hell why not?

@sniperwol_basic Another one, refunds on digital games for simply not liking the game is a big deal that I think a lot of people overlook.  Yes it's at their discretion but still impressive.

sniperwol_basic

@vackillers no you have to play 168 hours = 1 week that can be any time. The time will be counted only when you are actively playing it. Which is a really good idea

sniperwol_basic
sniperwol_basic

@bruta I think you should try it. A positive move should be appreciated. I know it was disaster at its first 6 months but the game is very stable now as i already bought one copy

@kitty Is your Origin completely up to date? That might be the problem.

@kitty Game Time is taking a break? You probably have to pay an extra fee to unlock the Free Game Time :P

Or wait for it.

@STrugglingFool BF3 had more players playing when they gave it away for free. It had like 150,000 players online.

tearatherflesh
tearatherflesh

@theoldgods It's a massive download, you may very well get rubberbanding or crashing despite the "fixes", you will get called "Free Weekender" by people who own the game, you will run around and get killled from a distance as you try for hours to figure out the maps, etc.

dlaney34

@sniperwol_basic @vackillers INCORRECT. The Timer starts counting ONCE you start playing and ends 168 hours after. It does NOT only count when you are playing, but rather, once you start the timer.

lmyyyks
lmyyyks

@sniperwol_basic @vackillers Not like that. Read it again, "Once you choose to start the clock, however, it will count down whether or not you're actually playing the game."

So you can start anytime you want, but all you can play for free is the week it follows.

@sniperwol_basic @vackillers Thanks so much I just wasn't sure on the time thing. Means I might be able to get my friend to get this then finally and start shootin some nutz off !!!  thx

wayanbros

@sniperwol_basic i think he shouldn't.What are you an EA employee " I bought a copy recently".

I remember recieving two software updates for the game and everytime I hoped it'd fixed the game. No it didn't. I'd advise ppl not to play this game. DICE have been forced by EA to go the COD route. Except they haven't got the basic stability of the game online right.

tearatherflesh
tearatherflesh

@sniperwol_basic @bruta You don't get it, do you? You can't sell people a broken ass game for full price, waste hours and hours of their time trying to fix it themselves, wait months for patches, and then expect them to jump in and play when their friends have stopped playing  and everyone else has unlocked all the equipment and has learned all the maps and can easily squad up and destroy you as you grind for attachments. Fuck this game.

STrugglingFool
STrugglingFool

@theoldgods @anopinion_onion It's not as broken as some might want you to believe. Yes it has bugs, they are working on it. Free Weekend what do you have to lose? I play fine. There is a bug where it says open task manager and close the game but you don't have to, it starts up fine. Hit registration isn't perfect but then which game is? I played 822 hours of the game.
