A new, remastered version of vintage platformer Sonic the Hedgehog 2 includes a new level that was never finished in time for the original game's release.

The new version of the iOS and Android version of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will include a completed Hidden Palace Zone, reports Joystiq, with the remastered mobile version of the game being developed by Sonic Retro duo Simon Thomley and Christian Whitehead.

Chunks of the level have been discovered by people digging through the game's ROM files, with common belief that the Hidden Palace Zone was a level designed to highlight Sonic's transformation into Super Sonic after collecting all seven of the game's chaos emeralds.

The Android version of Sonic 2 is now available on the Google Play store for $2.99. The new version of the game also contains a boss rush mode, and the option to play as Knuckles--a bonus that was originally offered when users combined the Sonic 2 and Sonic & Knuckles cartridges.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was originally released for the Sega Genesis in 1992. It was (and still is) brilliant and I will arm wrestle anyone who says otherwise.
