Plants vs. Zombies 2 launching in July

PopCap confirms launch month for sequel to tower defense-style game.

by

Plants vs. Zombies 2 will launch in July, PopCap confirmed today. Previously, the game was slated to arrive sometime this summer.

The original Plants vs. Zombies launched in 2009 for PC and Mac and later spread to a number of platforms, including Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Nintendo DS.

The tower defense-style Plants vs. Zombies series has players use a number of varied plants to protect their homes from zombie masses.

PopCap also released a tongue-in-cheek trailer for Plants vs. Zombies 2 today, though it does not include any gameplay footage.

Any other studio and we'd be complaining that Plants vs Zombies 5 was coming out this summer lol

If that's the actual subtitle of the game, that would be genius. Plant vs Zombies 2: It's About Time.

As this is an EA game I'm going to have to pass. Not like there aren't another 100 tower defense games out there that are probably more deserving than this franchise in the first place... but alas, the gaming world is usually driven by what people have played and not what is actually out there worth playing.

Anxious to see what they do with this game.  I'm wondering if they'll change up the gameplay, or add on to what they had in place in the original.  Either way I'm hoping it has lots of polish and balance so I'll want to use some of those other seed packets.

Saw this, then I had to bust a move...

Haha. I get it. It's "about time" because it's taken a long time, but I bet time is actually the main theme, so it's about time.

Finally, I can get back to shooting peas at zombies with metal buckets on their heads.

Awesome. I got this free from Playstation Plus about a month ago and I've been playing this on my Vita ever since. More companies should use this strategy.

Personally didn't like this game, or know what you guys see in it. I found Toy Soldiers, Defense Grid, Dungeon Defenders, and Orcs must Die far superior and worth the money. P v Z felt like a $10 experience, not a $15 one. It also sucks because the day after I bought it it went on sale for $5.

Awesome!

I sometimes wish that Eddie wrote longer articles.

The subtitle is "It's about time"? That's the same as the first  episode of Back to the Future: The Game! Telltale better sue those bastards for using the same (very common) words, this cannot go unpunished/sarcasm.

As big as the first PvsZ was, it's not even a surprise. Ironically, for a 'casual' game, Plants Vs Zombies is a damn good game. I own it via Steam and my Android phone.

If Popcap had free rein over this game we can almost be sure it will be good, but if EA took part of development then we can expect microtransaction  and the second half of the game sold as DLC...

@raahsnavj yeah um no. there are really very few tower defense games out there and even less you can play for free.
