Plants vs. Zombies 2 delayed

PopCap Games pushes iOS title from July 18 to "later in the summer"; no rationale provided for delay.

PopCap Games today announced that Plants vs. Zombie 2 will not meet its previously announced July 18 release date.

The downloadable game is now slated to launch "later in the summer," PopCap said on Twitter, noting more detailed will be shared in the future.

No reason for the delay was provided.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 was announced earlier this month as a free download exclusive for iOS devices, though PopCap has plans to bring the game to other platforms.

The game has been designed "from the ground up" as a live service and will feature new worlds, levels, plants, zombies, and ways to play--including a time travel mechanic.

According to PopCap, every zombie and every level in the Plants vs. Zombies 2 gameworld is playable for free. At the same time, players will also be able to purchase unspecified upgrades and other in-game items, though specific pricing details were not given.

In addition to Plants vs. Zombies 2, PopCap is working on Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, an all-new shooter for consoles and PC.

I'm in the US and was able to find a way to download PVZ2 from the Austraila store...what a big disappointment.  They want you to pay for plants that were otherwise free...there is a price tag on so many plants and to get to different levels you have to pay.  I am very hurt that one of my favorite and treasured games have become a drain on my wallet.  I would have preferred to pay full price for the game and have the other stuff for free and purchase with the coins I earn through out the game.  You can go back to win stars to open some levels but that requires you to play the same board up to three times...that is a major drag.  This did not live up to my expectations.  When it comes out in the US, I hope they would have changed some of these things by then.  It sucks that companies like EA want to capitalize off this game the way they are trying to.  The second one can't hold a candlestick to the first PVZ.  Huge disappointment!

Good things are worth waiting for. EA's involvement with PopCap is unfortunate in that respect. I see EA's pawprints all over this release (or lack thereof).

I guess having a good game is the only important thing but come on man!! Urgh.

Maybe they're done sucking up to Apple and will launch the game on PC as well... like they should have from the start.

Games being exclusive to IOS is so annoying. Even with Android owning more than half of the market, it still gets shafted all the time.....

Any failure is EA's fault I am sure. They made mistakes with this game from day one. Free 2 scam is a joke just make it pay and own. Only on apple  really? There are more android users then apple. Missing the pc was a huge mistake when that is where the original started and a BIGGER screen is always more fun.

Hopefully they are implementing more versions either than iOS for launch day...

Take all the time they need; it's still gonna be horrible in function.

Frankly this is the second biggest gaming disappointment of the year (the Apple-only BS).

Live service? Well I am officially upset... this free to play bullshit is pissing me off. EA buying Popcap was a mistake.

Had the first one on 360 and pc but have no IOS devices here and won't be getting any.  Also wouldn't have it since it's from EA and free.

Please be a delay to change it from F2P. I would gladly pay for this game flat out over a F2P model.

Can't wait for the PSN/Steam versions... If it takes long enough add Xbox Live version too.

Loved the first one...

I'm not usually a casual player but I do have a soft spot for PvZ - I'm a little sad that this is delayed as there seems to be very little to ever look forward to on my iPad... I guess my Playstation will have to suffice XD

I love PvZ, I hope it comes out for either PS3 or PS4.

They lost me at "a live service."

Still not very excited about this game. You have to know there is some catch to this crap. Popcap gets bought out by EA and their first new game is a "live service" aka nickel and dime machine. Yea go F yourselves.

@Wrathesoul

I agree.  I played PvZ on PC only, and my phone's Android.  What are they thinking?  I hate playing PvZ on small screen sizes, it's harder to control.

Pyrosa

Wait, I just re-read that.  LOL -- a F2P online-only PvZ?!?   LOL!!!

Scratch previous sentiment... This supposed PvZ 2 is hilariously stupid, and bears almost no resemblance to what made the first one great.

@MarcJL31

Yeah I know.  I bought PVZ for PC 1 and I always played it offline, geez they like shafting their fanbase much?

@Adavanter EA owns Popcap now, so there won't be a Steam version. It will instead be on the dreaded Origin, if it comes out for anything other than iOS.
