Plants vs. Zombies 2 being released this summer

EA also announces Plants vs. Zombies Adventures for Facebook.

PopCap has announced that Plants vs. Zombies 2 will launch early this summer.

The follow-up to the perennially successful Plants vs. Zombies was due to be released later in spring, though PopCap has still not specified what platforms the sequel will be available on. The original Plants vs. Zombies has sprouted up on the PC, XBLA, PlayStation 3, Vita, DS, iOS, Android, and Windows Phone 7.

Developer PopCap is also working on a Facebook spin-off for the series called Plants vs. Zombies Adventures, which is launching now as a limited closed beta ahead of an official release later in spring.

Curt Bererton, head of developer PopCap's San Francisco office, calls Plants vs. Zombies Adventures "a highly accessible, zombie-zapping adaptation of the original game designed specifically for Facebook."

The Facebook game will offer up new types of zombies and plants, a new way of setting up your plant defences, and leaderboards.

PopCap says Plants vs. Zombies Adventure is the first of "several" adaptations of the original tower defence game coming in the next year.

I'd be totally content if they just fixed the Android version of PvZ so it's not completely gimped compared to the other platforms.

Finally they say something... They've been too silent since they announced they were making it.

Yet still no actual details on PVZ2's gameplay, what's up with that?

The first was so good I beat the game and all mini games on PC and again on Vita. Looking forward to the sequel. I don't play facebook games but might have to try out this one.

Cool, I've been hoping for something new and I hope that Popcap has the guts to make PvZ 2 significantly different from the original

I got this game when it was free a few weeks ago. I've been playing it none stop since. I've never been addicted to a mobile phone game like i am with PvsZ. i can't wait until this one is released for free.

I still play the original from time to time, and I am pretty excited about this.

I enjoyed the original game, so I'll check the sequel out. I'll get this on XBLA. Won't have to worry about Origin or any DMR crap. I hate that it's $15, but at least I'll be supporting the developers who deserve to be paid.

Put it on Steam or make it a standalone game that doesn't require Origin. That's the only way I'll buy it.

Now just properly price this game(or #2), I know it was pretty cheap on cellphones but as always, they well over price these cellphone games when ported...Plants vs Zombies on the Vita is...wait for it....wait for it....14.99$! Only morons are buying these over priced cellphone games on the Vita. 99c

Now Plants vs. Zombies Adventures! Is where it's at, a real Tower Defense game and none of that side scrolling nonsense. I'd play it but not on facebook. Long live Tower Defense games on the go, perfect for the touch screen, YES!

Crap, what do i do?   I loved PvZ, but have sworn EA off as the spawn of Satan himself.

This will be a tough decision.

The characters in the image(PvZA) don't look very charming, they actually look scary.

Finally.  They've been milking the original for years trying to resell it everywhere.

Facebook version, lol, no way.

An excellent mobile game because it wasn't dumbed down and felt like an actual GAME, compared to most mobile games.

Android probably accounts for less than 5% of their sales. Face it, it is a very fragmented OS. And yes I have used many android OS devices.

@blutosan If it is "significantly" different, than there isn't even a point. People who loved the first game and want more are not saying "gee, I hope they release a PvZ2 that is nothing like the game I am enjoying right now!".

JOYRIDEME

@DarknautXXX Are you suggesting that plants v zombies wasn't the absolute distillation of a tower defence game to the point where even someone who was dropped a child could play it?

blutosan
blutosan

@Poodger No point in being significantly different?  I would say that there was a quite a bit to be gained from Super Marion Bros. being significantly different from Mario Bros.  I would say that Street Fighter 2 was significantly different from Street Fighter, and that was to its benefit.  I would say that Warcraft 2 was not only amazing, but also significantly different from Warcraft.  I'd also say that I'm sick of sequels that have the same gameplay as their originals. I liked PvZ because it was fresh and new.  I expect the same out of its sequel.
