Pink DS Lite tops Amazon list

Nintendo handheld heads up EOY sales for online retailer.

It looks to have been a bumper Christmas for Nintendo, with Amazon reporting its top two holiday hardware sellers as the Nintendo DS Lite pink and black, respectively. Those items were followed by the PlayStation 2 and the Xbox 360. It's likely that the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii didn't tally sales due to limited numbers being available through the retailer.

The Nintendo Wii sold out on the US Amazon site on the November 19 launch day in less than one minute, although the company reported that it would be receiving "periodic shipments" of the console over the holidays. Similarly, Amazon UK preorders sold out in around 10 minutes.

Sony's PlayStation 3 is also currently out of stock, with Amazon reporting that "allocations of the PS3 have been very limited but we are working with Sony to secure future allocations."

Nintendo DS titles also marked the two best-selling games for consoles and portables, with New Super Mario Bros. and Brain Age scoring the top slots. Multiformat title Madden NFL 07 rounded off the top three.

For the PC, the World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade expansion pack preorder was the most popular software title, followed by another expansion pack, The Sims 2: Pets. The third most popular PC software title was Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 for Windows XP.

The report was for the period of November 16 through December 19, and Amazon stated that its busiest day for online orders (so far) was December 11.
