Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies getting Western release this fall

Digital only release of Ace Attorney 5 coming to North America and Europe later in 2013.

by

Capcom has confirmed that Ace Attorney 5 will be coming to North America and Europe this fall with the title Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies.

The game will only be sold digitally on the 3DS eShop, according to a Capcom press release, though a price was not mentioned.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies is set eight years after the last game in the series, with protagonist Phoenix Wright returning to a destroyed courtroom. The game will feature a new companion, Athena Cykes, and a mechanic that allows players to pinpoint unusual feelings during a courtroom examination. The game will also be rendered in 3D for the first time.

It is the seventh game in the series, including the two spin-off games about series co-star Miles Edgeworth, and the first to be released on 3DS.

Ahead of its Western release, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies will launch in Japan this July.

Alongside the announcement, Capcom also released a trailer showing off the game's new engine and hinting at its storyline:

Well, I can't say it doesn't suck not to see a physical copy release; but I suppose it's better than them screwing us over like they did w/ AAI2. Hopefully, w/ the sale of PW5 this way and solid sales (which I know it will get, regardless of it being digital) this will hopefully encourage Capcom to do the same w/ titles like AAI2.

C'mon Capcom, don't stop that momentum now....you've already given me my top reason to cave in and give you and Nintendo my money (seeing as this was doing to be my top deciding factor in actually BUYING a 3ds). Why not throw in a little extra incentive, lol?

As a collector, this is bad news. As a gamer, I'm looking forward to the next installment in an awesome franchise.

Seeing that I always buy my 3DS games from eShop because every games I want are always not available in stores for 1 week, I say Wohoo! Ace Attorney 5 is coming!

We're getting AA5, and many people are complaining about a digital only release.  Some of you'll probably get the game anyway as the release date approaches..

We have to live with the fact that digital-only games are common.  I'm happy we're even getting the game at all since we didn't get AAI2.

I've been wanting to play the series, but I wasn't expecting a digital release...

Wait, what about Investigations 2, with Miles?  Weren't they talking about releasing that?  Man, I keep thinking that Capcom just hates money and success.  Same reason they're only releasing this digital only I'm thinking.

They HATE being profitable.

So no Phoenix Wright vs Prof Layton I take it?

I need to started on this series and I always like starting from the beginning. I don't mind it being download only even though I do love having physical copies.

Digital only? Damn, if only the eShop had an account system, I'd be way more comfortable with this.

Thank god.

Also, where the hell is  Layton vs Ace Attourney?  That game was announced long before this one was.   CAPCOM?

Call me old fashioned but I actually like to own my games.  I do not care for digital only and always buy physical copies.

I for one don't care if it's digital only, the important thing is being able to play the game itself right?

Ok...

But where's Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney, and Ace Attorney: Miles Edgeworth 2? Can we get some western releases for these great games? Please? :(

Digital Only is BS. Doesn't sell enough? Then why the hell did they release 3 main titles, and two spin offs with Apollo and Edgeworth. Clearly the games ahd to sell decently at least to keep it going that long. Why digital? Because its God dam capcom thats why. I sure as hell am not buying this, and this move will all but kill the series here in the west. If you think sales are bad when its physical try digital only.

@bgranli Well put it on a card of it's own and it's the same as a cartridge then.

@baconnnnn i thought that too, but when i was forced to download fire emblem and luigi's mansion 2, i came to think that it was convenient to not have to carry extra cartridges. Bad thing is that I am just about out of memory. -_-

@abHS4L88 You should start from the beginning.  These games have a long story behind them, even the Apollo one.

@mled wellllll considering we don't know the story yet, and all the characters, then yes, that's only you.

@Cypress131 I can understand why Miles Edgeworth 2 wasn't released here, because the sales for the first Miles Edgeworth weren't great in the west. But Profesor Layton is so popular in the west, especially in Europe, so I don't get why Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney hasn't been brought over here yet.

oromashu

@Cypress131 I wish we could too. Otherwise, I will have to learn Japanese, which I think most gamers will have to do if we want to play the games we love.

@kiramasaki  "Doesn't sell enough? Then why the hell did they release 3 main titles, and two spin offs with Apollo and Edgeworth"

Because it's a popular series in Japan and that money allows them to cater to fans in the west. Making it digital only will save them money. Not buying it will only make Capcom think the west doesn't care about Phoenix Wright. Good job.

Thanatos2k

@kiramasaki That was before Capcom went to utter shit.

Can't put DLC in this game.

Cypress131
Cypress131

@kiramasaki

They didn't sell enough in the western market. Many Japanese games have the same issue, so the developers sometimes don't get funding to localize games.

We never even received Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney and Ace Attorney: Miles Edgeworth 2. I'm glad we're getting this game at all, even if it is only in digital format.

@00LiteYear Im not worried about the memory. I am more upset that we are all paying the same price and not getting a physical copy.  Yeah, it might be 3 dollars cheaper but this whole digital thing makes no sense to me. Only indie games should be digital and I even have a hard time purchase some of those even though they are better than most major releases. If gaming goes to digital only, I will stop gaming.

abHS4L88
abHS4L88

@DarkEvoker

That's what I intend on doing, like Professor Layton, I know these games follow a continuous story line. Ugh, I have too many games to finish to get into another series, haha.

@JOTLD@mledThanks for answering on behalf of the whole gaming community :p

@PlasmaBeam44 @kiramasaki  Actually Apollo isn't a spin off, it's a continuation of the main story, but I agree, who cares if it's digital only? You should all be happy that we are getting it.

NYlatinothug

@Thanatos2k Actually, in Japan, those who preorder get DLC costumes for Athena, Apollo, and Phoenix.. They probably will make it just regular add ons for us.

oromashu

@Cypress131 @kiramasaki But the series has sold over 4.2 million units. It can't be doing that badly. I just don't know what Capcom considers good sales these days.

@abHS4L88 @DarkEvoker Ace Attorney series is a delightful to play.  The stories kept me hooked, even when they got way out there sometimes.
