PES 14, FIFA 14 launching the same day in Americas

Konami confirms Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 launching September 24 in Americas alongside FIFA 14; European release uncertain.

Konami has confirmed Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 will launch in North, South, and Central America on September 24, the same day EA Sports' FIFA 14 arrives on store shelves in the regions.

It is not clear if the games will go head-to-head in Europe, as Konami did not reveal a European launch date for PES 2014. Meanwhile, EA Sports has confirmed a September 27 release in the region.

PES 2014 will be available for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and is powered by Kojima Productions' Fox Engine, said to boost the authenticity of the game's in-game mechanics like collision detection and player models.

The Fox Engine is also behind the upcoming next-generation open-world game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

From the recent impressions on the both the games, I feel PES 2014 is getting better this year. I will decide by playing both the games.

I was always a PES fan and then moved to the dark side and played FIFA 12 & 13 - loved the atmosphere in those FIFA games, whereas PES felt a little bland atmosphere wise. I loved the game play too, which while not as good as PES, was still adequate. I mean there were these odd matches where the AI teams were unbelievably good but that's realistic right - a team in good form can hammer an opponent on the day - right?

THEN - I found out about FIFA scripting/momentum...and the whole FIFA game-play made sense - and the game became a HUGE farce to me...I always felt there was something funny with FIFA's game-play and after watching FIFA scripting game-play on youtube - I realized it was true - mind reading AI opponents that ALWAYS seem to know where and how you are going to tackle and side step you with ease. Those last minute goals to equalize or beat you, usually from a corner late in added time (!!!) - super fast defenders with WAY lower speed stats than your attackers, that catch you and dispossess you and then you cant catch them. The way your players always seem to fall over each other - usually your last defender that is standing in the way of a THREE AI player breakaway(!!!!) - the way your player is knocked off balance in the same way EVERY TIME by AI defenders, and you can never seem to recover to try and get the ball back  - the way every time the AI clears the ball from the his box it ALWAYS, BUT ALWAYS falls at the feet of an AI team mate...the way your defenders seem to push forward and you get caught out on the counter attack break TIME AND TIME AGAIN(!!!) The way your team can hammer MAN U / Arsenal/Man C 2 or 3 or 4 nil on one day in a cup match - a lowly div 3 team you have painstakingly built up over a few seasons on a measly budget in Career mode- and then lose your next league match 3-0 to Scunthorpe.

Sorry FIFA - you blew it, your game is fake BS and I will not buy it. Gamespot will never give FIFA a bad review as they are now in EA's pocket - my opinion of course. I mean PES which has brilliant gameplay, mostly always has had, gets a 6 or 6.5 from GS - and the reason they get such a low score is always blamed on the licenses. Right? So if a person not knowing his footy games were to look at the 2 reviews and sees FIFA with an 8.5 or 9 - and PES with a 6.5 even though the gameplay is as good as FIFA's or in most cases way better than FIFA's - which is he going to choose??

PES has real life random things that happen on the field. FIFA is scripted and rubbish. I played to test the scripting theory and it is definitely there. those unstoppable last second rushes at your goal where no matter what you do, you cannot stop them scoring. How your players in one match do not put a foot wrong, but in the next match, usually an important cup/ promotion game, your guys have two left feet...

VIVA PES VIVA!!

Okay so PES has clung on over the years by managing to win over a small percentage of the market with slightly better game play.

However now we see a much more advanced game play in FIFA and I will stick with it for several reasons which are;
- Visuals, FIFA has always come out on top here and this is a huge factor for me
- Better game modes, and more realistic season mode
- Finally...MY FRIENDS ALL OWN IT. I have most fun playing games with my friends and we are all FIFA advocates. Plus there is nothing better than a pre night out game of drinking FIFA

I was always Pro Evo guy over FIFA. The gameplay was more challenging and rewarding. It's a shame it went wayward after 06. I moved to FIFA for only that reason, but I still long for the day Evo roars back!

In terms of gameplay I suppose PES has been a bit better over the years. But the gap between the two games isn't nearly a much as some here suggest. PES is marginally better at best. I have played both consistently over the years. Football games have only started to really impress me the last couple of years although I've been playing since the days of Fifa 98. Before '10 both games were absolute rubbish and people (including me) only played them because there was nothing better on offer and because they are too big a fan of football. Football games should have been a lot more developed by now. Look how far racing games have come. Both Fifa and PES has failed.

how is this going to work???

Next gen consoles aren't being released until Nov or Dec... FIFA 14 Ignite will only be on the PS4/Xone...unless EA is just going to release the current gen version and wait till later to bring out the ignite version... oh my... EA will dig themselves in a bit of a hole...

Stopped playing these games. We used to love FIFA though

I still think Pro Evolution Soccer 2006 is the best football game to date.

after that it went kinda downhill.

And FIFA I never liked. there were always glitches that made it too easy to score.  Pro Evo matches are exciting, FIFA matches arent.

DaWarthog

On just the marketing alone if EA owned PES and Konami owned FIFA PES would own FIFA.

DaWarthog

PES is way better and their is a way to tell EA to go fuck themselves and still get all the licenses on PES anyway. FIFA is arcade game for little kids.

I hate football and i hate all the games.

But it's fact already that Fifa will sell considerably more.

You should want Pro Evo to do well. Competition is good for gameplay. So even if you hate PES, you should always hope it sometimes beats FIFA, just to make EA have to constantly make FIFA better.

But both games sometimes look and play like a real game and both sometimes don't. But heres the reality, neither game allows you to play for 90 minutes. If you could, you would get outrageous scores like 10-10 etc. Until I have to strategically fight for only 1 goal over 90 minutes and im sweating in the end of the 90 minutes, because of all the strategic decisions and close calls, I had to make and im screaming to get a goal in the final minute after 89 minutes has gone. BOTH games aren't realistic. If they were realistic id be able to play for 90 minutes. If you think that would be boring? Well...lol...welcome to a REAL football game ,which neither game is.

Only realistic sports games that are truly trying to be the real thing ive played in the last few years, are F1 and NBA 2K. I can play and DO play a real 4 quarter 12 minute game and come up with realistic relatively believable real life NBA scores and in F1 I can truly race an entire full race. In FIFA theres no way id get a realistic score after 90 minutes

i wish every gamer would skip ALL sports games that are simply the next game in the series.

FIFA is the same as it came out on PS1 just improved graphics and new athletes

There is no point in arguing about this. Everyone should play what they like the most. From my point of view: People who tried PES and still think that FIFA is better overall soccer(football) game, are either blind or just too attached to their childhood memories. But then there are those people who never tried any PES game (equivalent for its era)  still arguing about how bad PES is in comparison to FIFA.  At least rent or borrow PES from someone before buying FIFA .

I can never play on FIFA... it just doesnt feel like a football game.

It doesnt have the correct character models, they dont feel like footballers.

I seriously don't understand the HYPE of FIFA... no matter how many times people have told me it's better than PES... and gave it a go..

NO.... there is NOOOO WAYYY that FIFA is better than PES... NO  FKN WAY..

I just had enough with this argument you know.

This game will finally prove to be theb best football simulation game ever!

also Havok and fox are in making the new engine.

Its going to be exciting for footie fans.

But i dont know how FIFA is going to look on PS4. its a mystery.

so far, nothing of fifa has yet impressed me on next gen.

wheres the gameplay vids.

As a hardcore footie gamer.

PES seems to have the upperhand in that its got a new engine.

FIFA seems the same old.

It wont make a difference in the americas.

PES has the south american fanbase ahead of FIFA i think , plus argentina and chile liscense are rumoured.

in the UK. FIFA has a lot of blind support from causals.

KONAMI will release a week before, NOT the same day.

even tho the lates FIFA press coverings havent been positive.

PES rarely makes a dent in the UK, I can imagine why they're reluctant to release it. It's especially stupid to release it at the same time as FIFA. Thats like trying to release an FPS at the same time as Call of Duty

@crazynotstupid PES games were great up until 2005. For me the last truly excellent football game was PES 4. The last generation of football games have been a little disappointing in general.

jonny_dutch

@udubdawgz sure, but that logic can't just apply to sports games, it should be any game that is released as a rehash yearly. COD and Assassins Creed are the real poison in gaming, because they have a greater relevance to people who care about how gaming as a medium will progress

EL_Bomberdor

@johnnybravo29

You are very limited on PES. The days of playing as an allocated team have been and gone. To be able to customize your own squad, compete, win tournaments, seasons, save and build up coins to bid on players, players you desire, players who have been inform for their team on Saturday, an upgraded version will go into gold packs to get lucky landing on, or auction for. This is what makes it hands down the best. PES needs more than a 5 years old system on playing with club vs club. No customization, no lust to save that amount to get that player you want etc etc... boring...

Fifa have players who have been hardcore for years, I can understand your dislike if you are not used to Fifa and get batted every game. You need to understand squad instruction using the D-Pad ontop of being good, when you understand this and compete, you will love Fifa, until then play PES.

@Navardo95 I hope they have sorted out all the bugs and glitches that plagued Fifa 13. After a month of putting up with bugs, glitches and constant maintenance I traded my game and I doubt I'll buy another football game, especially from Electronic Arts.

voidhawk2000
voidhawk2000

@Shantmaster_K @voidhawk2000 It does to a degree I suppose - the AI breakaway happened often to me in PES but what attracts me to PES again is the absolute randomness of the game. If you play badly in PES you are going to lose - in FIFA when the scripting kicks in, no matter how well you play, the AI cheats and you will mostly lose or draw. You can literally feel when it kicks in and when it doesn't happen. As I said the game felt like a farce to me thereafter. It literally tries to decide when you are going to win and when you are not :)

Navardo95

@19James89 I say let the reviews roll in first and also the user reviews and then decide to make your purchase.

DaWarthog

@EL_Bomberdor @EtroAnime How old are you? You have to kidding me. You can score doing the same thing over and over in FIFA. How many time can someone perfectly curve a shot on the far left corner from the opposite corner of the box. You sound like a troll. Also the customize your sqaud is an EA scam to squeeze extra cash out of the consumer. I understand why you like FIFA. It looks like you don't mind being sheep for EA.

stan_boyd
stan_boyd

@Navardo95 @stan_boyd @19James89 true but if everyone starts doing that then who is gonna test the games and platforms for us. They'll also be waiting for people to test it for them.

Navardo95
Navardo95

@stan_boyd @Navardo95 @19James89 Lol....I never ever pre-ordered a game in my life and most likely never will....not even a PS4...or GTA V...just in case if there is any game-breaking bugs on the platform you're purchasing the game for.(e.g- Skyrim,PS3)...

Its best to buy a week or two after release...the purchase is a lot safer that way.

stan_boyd
stan_boyd

@Navardo95 @19James89 shhhh if everyone starts being smart like us there won't be any user reviews to read cause everyone else will be waiting for user reviews to.
