The fourth Persona title, a spin-off from the Megami Tensei role-playing game series, was a breakthrough cult hit among RPG enthusiasts both in Western markets and in Japan because of its story and social link mechanics. The fact that Japanese production company Aniplex announced that an anime of Persona 4 is in the works (via their new website) should therefore be good news for fans of the series.

The show will be directed by Seiji Kishi, who has directed My Bride Is a Mermaid and Angel Beats! The soundtrack for the anime will be composed by Shoji Meguro, who was responsible for the music of the Persona RPG series.

The original Japanese voice actors from the game will reprise their roles for the series, which include Showtaro Morikubo (Yosuke Hanamura), Yui Horie (Chie Satonaka), and Ami Koshimizu (Yukiko Amagi). The main character, who players can assign a custom name to in the game, will officially be named Yu Narukami and will be voiced by Daisuke Namikawa.

The last anime based on the Persona series was Persona--Trinity Soul, which took place 10 years after the events of Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3. The official air date of the anime has yet to be announced.
