People Can Fly with THQ

Inspirationally named Polish studio joins THQ's suite for unnamed next-generation games.

THQ today announced that it has signed on to publish the upcoming game from People Can Fly, the Polish company that developed the PC shooter Painkiller. As part of the deal, People Can Fly will join THQ's studio system, which currently consists of 12 internal studios and more than 25 independent developers.

The publisher has not named the game or its platform, but did reveal that the game is intended to be released in the fall of 2007 on next-generation platforms. It will not be a Painkiller follow-up, however, as the publisher made it clear that the new game will be an original property.

Agoura Hills, California-based THQ has no problems making international relations. The company is working with Ukrainian developer GSC World, UK developer Climax, and went so far as to acquire Canadian developer Relic Entertainment. "THQ's strategy is to work with world-class developers to bring highly innovative, original IP to market," said Dan Kelly, senior vice president of business development.

People Can Fly developed the PC first-person shooter Painkiller for DreamCatcher Interactive in 2004 and is shipping Painkiller: Hell Wars for the Xbox later this month.

Painkiller wasn't all that good, but still was an interesting game. Can't wait to see what People Can Fly will come out with.

I have my bets on the rev...thq has recently been popping up as one of the most excited third party devs over therevolution...and thats why they r not announcing which system yet...if it were ps3 or 360 it would have been noted already....especially if its just next fall..LOL then again it may be for all three or not o rev at all..you never know is my point...

There is a steeler fan, get him. I am NOT a fan of a team that has to use officials and fans to win a game. STEALERS! This has been a message for davahsa. Sorry, but the Seahawks were robbed. Yay, THQ!

Painkiller was an interesting romp through purgatory that ended with a very unique and truly horrific interpretation of Hell. The game borrowed heavily from Serious Sam and I tried to love it for its impressive yet repetitive game-play. The weapons were cool but the game was not without a few drawbacks that convinced me to trade it in at EB. It just took itself too seriously when it really didn't have to. I hope that PCF takes note of these drawbacks and tries to avoid them in their next-gen projects.

Considering that the new game will be released on next-gen systemS, 360 and ps3 are probably the sure bets.

I LOVED Painkiller on the PC. Great game with great physics. Hopefully that series will make it to 360. I can't wait to see what they make for us next... GO PCF, you rocketh!!

We'll see how good it is. THQ is steadily looking to expand any margins or offerings. . . just like the other embattled game publishers.
