After spending years dissecting games from the sidelines, the creators of Web comic Penny Arcade are about to get a taste of their own medicine. Microsoft today announced that Hothead Games' Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One is set to debut on the Xbox Live Marketplace next Wednesday, May 21.

That announcement was followed up by developer Hothead Games confirming a simultaneous launch on the PC, Mac, and Linux. Those versions will be downloadable on the developer's online storefront, Greenhouse Interactive. The game will sell for $19.95 (1,600 Microsoft points on the Xbox Live Marketplace).

While Penny Arcade creators Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins headline the project, they are not the only comedic pedigree involved. Hothead also enlisted the help of Ron Gilbert, adventure game veteran and creator of the Secret of Monkey Island series. Gilbert has joined Hothead as the company's creative director, and is also working on his own new title for the studio, Death Spank.
