Penny Arcade pushed over Precipice

Debut installment of Hothead Games' episodic adventure series arrives on Xbox Live Arcade, PCs next week.

After spending years dissecting games from the sidelines, the creators of Web comic Penny Arcade are about to get a taste of their own medicine. Microsoft today announced that Hothead Games' Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One is set to debut on the Xbox Live Marketplace next Wednesday, May 21.

That announcement was followed up by developer Hothead Games confirming a simultaneous launch on the PC, Mac, and Linux. Those versions will be downloadable on the developer's online storefront, Greenhouse Interactive. The game will sell for $19.95 (1,600 Microsoft points on the Xbox Live Marketplace).

While Penny Arcade creators Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins headline the project, they are not the only comedic pedigree involved. Hothead also enlisted the help of Ron Gilbert, adventure game veteran and creator of the Secret of Monkey Island series. Gilbert has joined Hothead as the company's creative director, and is also working on his own new title for the studio, Death Spank.

Sweet. The comic is so good I might have to pick this up for $20 without even having played a demo.

tuff_gong92 : I know we want this on steam, but lets be reasonable.. If this would be released on steam it would cost 10$ more xD

Call me when it becomes 15 bones, and when its on Steam. Once those are met, I'll be playing the hell out of this.

The videos on GT look a lot better than I thought this was going to be. Didn't know it was going to be on XBLA, though I'll probably get it for the PC anyway.

I was all for this game at 800 points, but 1600? I really can't see this doing that well around my area, who knows about the rest of the world.

otanikun -"I'm not a huge fan of Penny Arcade, that's probably why I don't like it" Right, which is understandable, but some people *are*, and for those people, this game will likely be enjoyable, hence why it is being made.

looking forward to this one. If the ultra short game Portal can sell at that price so can this game.

I suppose so D, but I'm not a huge fan of Penny Arcade, that's probably why I don't like it

otanikun - "Why is there a game of this?" Why not? If a developer wants to spend the time and money to put out an indie game, more power to them. Not every game has to be some Bioshock/WoW/GTA blockbuster.

Not sure if the price will bring a lot of people into that game. I'll be sure to check out the trial, though.
