Pennant Chase Baseball takes swings June 13

[UPDATE] Nintendo's diamond dandy won't make it on the field for MLB's Opening Day; GameCube-exclusive now targets release on June 13.

For GameCube owners, the peanuts and Cracker Jacks will just have to wait. It appears as though Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball will remain in the development dugout until June 13.

Pennant Chase, developed by Nintendo and Exile Interactive, was announced in late January, shortly after Take-Two Interactive announced its exclusive third-party rights arrangement with Major League Baseball. Exile previously worked on Sega's World Series Baseball 2K3, which was released on the Xbox and PlayStation 2 in 2003.

The deal does allow first-party manufacturers to develop and publish MLB games for their own consoles, which means that Pennant Chase may be a blueprint for Nintendo's future takes on baseball when the Take-Two deal goes into effect next year.

The game was originally scheduled to go on sale April 4, one day after Pennant Chase cover athlete David Ortiz and his World Champion Boston Red Sox take on the New York Yankees for MLB's Opening Day.

Nintendo Pennant Chase Baseball is awaiting rating information from the ESRB and will sell for $49.99. For more information on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
