PCs to recruit Field Ops

Digital Reality developing, Freeze Interactive publishing first-person shooter and real-time strategy hybrid for PC.

People trying to navigate the world of gaming acronyms that includes MMOs, RE4s, and KOTOR will soon have a new jumble of letters to tangle with. Swiss publisher Freeze Interactive has announced that it will release what it claims to be the first FPSRTS, a combination first-person shooter and real-time strategy game. The game, titled Field Ops, is being developed by Digital Reality and is scheduled for release this November.

Field Ops delves into the world of counterterrorism, and will be spread across five different locations. According to a statement from Freeze, players will "Move into the fascinating world of antiterrorism and manage every aspect of gameplay from strategic planning to taking out the main bad guy with your sniper rifle."

The company has released seven screenshots of the game, which show squads of troops battling in marshlands and in cities surrounded by a desert. Screens show perspectives from both a traditional FPS and a RTS, but it's not clear how Digital Reality will work both into the game.

Field Ops has not yet been rated or priced. A teaser Web site has been launched, with more information promised in the future.

Hahah i kno what you mean Hila, Savage claim they created RTSFPS when battlezone has been out since 1999, and still developers insist they create something new. Everything is different in it's own little world. Personally i love batllezone I / II. Field Ops doesn't look to bad though, They did say that you can go through an entire game in either mode. To me that says, "you can pwn AI or out tech the other team." Which may not be that fun.

I bet that neither the FPS or RTS will be that good. Usually multigenres are just "okay"

Check out Savage 2 and Savage one.

this game definately looks awesome, but i wonder how they will balance the game. Like using FPS more than RTS and vise versa. I hope they have a co-op thing where a buddy can play with you, or just have it one guy FPSs, one RTSs and switches off when they want. I sorely hope that this game is multiplayer, otherwise it would be a complete waste.

This seems like a decent looking game. I will look into it when it is released, I'm gonna track it. I hope they release a demo.

what bollocks, I hate how game companies see someone elses idea, rip it off, then say they invented a genre.

What about the BattleZone games? FPS with a blend of RTS basebuilding and unit command. The blend has been around for years, it's just that everyone has their unique spin on it I guess.

This game takes FPS with "real-time strategies" to next level -- but it certainly isn't new.

Isn't BiA, the first TRUE FPSRTS? It offered Real Time Strategy from a First Person view, and you also do some of the fighing, not only orders.

Blasphemy, this is not the first FPSRTS, SAVAGE offered that mechanic, and it was released years ago.
