Payday 2 launching this summer

Overkill Software bringing sequel to Payday: The Heist to Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and PC later this year.

Overkill Software today announced that Payday 2 will launch on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and PC this summer. The 2011 original Payday: The Heist was released only for the PlayStation 3 and PC.

"This game is really I think a much bigger and more complete experience," game director and former Battlefield 3 lead designer David Goldfarb said. "We're really taking it to the next level, I think, with a lot of stuff."

Payday 2 includes a number of features not found in the original, including a skill and progression system. In addition, the game features four different professions, each with its own unique abilities.

Never played the first one, but this looks promising.  I'm guessing there won't be an option for split-screen...

It looks like there's just two or three guys on the map in the demo... Do you have to have 4 players in the game at a time? Or can you go in with just one friend?

This sounds awesome. Although stealth will almost always go out the window seeing as most online players will go "Mr. Blonde" and start shooting random people.

Glad their releasing this one on Xbox Live also, the first one would have sold double if it was on Xbox Live

I thought Sony owned the IP for Payday the Heist. I know Sony Online Entertainment published it.

Xbox now? Sign me up. Always wanted to play it, but my PC can't run shit and I despise PS3.

@hushed_kasket They've said you can play it solo, or with up to three other players, but like with Borderlands, I think it's going to be more fun with friends.

@Episode23 the first game in multiplayer with 4 friends in PC is one of the funniest, intense and amazing experiences ever created.

@Lawdog1521 From what they say on Twitter, it sounds like going stealth is extremely difficult, forces you to 'case the joint' thoroughly (as each mission is partially randomized), but that it is possible.  My guess is there isn't enough time in the demos for them to really case it, so while they try going stealth, they really don't take the time needed for it to go well.

@DarkSaber2k There where different people but not different professions. Basically, if you want to plant explosives somewhere your gonna have to have the explosives expert in you group etc...

Overkill got burned by IP owners back when they were GRIN, everything they've announced so far as the new company has been their own IPs.

@paulsifer42 @Lawdog1521 If going stealthy is as hard as it was in the diamond heist of number 1, it will be pretty damn hard to be stealthy. Though it could have just been how unstealthy me and my friends are lol. Good times.

@JayQproductions @DarkSaber2k The professions in the first game were linked with what rewards you got in each class. They didn't change your initial loadout, but you could only have certain special items with certain professions. Regardless, progression was DEFINITELY in the game, no excuse for that to be there.

@shaakes @paulsifer42 I assumed you were talking about 1 as everything I saw in the demo was pretty much par for the course for a FPS.  They have to let you know you're getting hit, and should probably make that a slightly uncomfortable experience that will make it harder to aim (like a bullet really would).  I just don't see a prob with it.
