Pacific Rim game revealed

Australian ratings board reveals new tie-in based on Guillermo del Toro's upcoming action flick; reportedly in development at Yuke's.

Guillermo del Toro's world of Pacific Rim may extend beyond the big screen. A game tie-in has been revealed by a rating from Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification (via VG247).

WWE developer Yuke's is listed as the developer for the Pacific Rim game. The Japanese studio is no stranger to tie-in games, as the outfit was also behind Real Steel for Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, based on the Hugh Jackman film of the same name.

A NeoGAF forum member has posted several screenshots from the Pacific Rim game, as well as a packshot suggesting the title will release on digital platforms like XBLA and PSN.

Pacific Rim the movie details a near-future conflict between human-controlled robots and hulking monsters who have risen from the oceans. It is del Toro's first directed film since 2008's Hellboy 2: The Golden Army.

According to the screenshots at NeoGAF, the Pacific Rim game will also follow this formula. In the images, monsters and robots are shown battling in a number of environments. Pacific Rim the movie launches July 12.

It'll probably be bad just like 99% of all other movie game adaptations which is a shame because if it had time put into it, it could be some awesome over the top fun.

Movie should be awesome, this game most definitely won't be though...

Lol, people saying this movie is going to be bad have no idea the quality Del Toro puts out and should stick to their uneducated commentary from their mother's basements about video games and not mention film.

That and the Gundam/Evangelion comments. The fat Japanophiles are out in force. There were giant robots fighting monsters in American comics years before Gundam came out.

Here, I'll throw in a silly comment too: Hey look, a voice from an immensely over-quoted game is in the movie. Gonna go see it even though I am saying it's bad because it isn't original like all the shooters I have played that have borrowed from something at some point in time. I am sophisticated.

Yeah. No.

Unless they are handing out the game free to people who go see the movie it's overpriced.

After seeing movie trailer with few cheesy lines I am not bothered either aobut this movie or game. Movie will be PG-13 and I whish I be 13 years old again to be excited about this Battleship alike special effects showcase.

Pacific Rim? Toilet Rim more like.

To be fair I am looking forward to the movie but only because GLADoS is doing the AI in the giant robots

I would preferred "Insane" game from Del Toro :(

This will be a really bad game with a really bad movie.  I cannot believe Hollywood wastes our time with movies and games like this....pass at all levels!

I did not know about this game until just now. I guess no loss then really.

I still can't believe they are making a live action Gundam movie!

Not expecting this to turn out well at all.

They should have got High Moon studios to do it (they made the recent good Transformers games).

Making cheap cash-in movie games usually turns out for the worse.

I'm kinda hoping for the best.  I don't think there have been any games associated with Del Toro's other films.  Maybe he'll have some degree of creative control that will insure the game isn't a complete turd?

However, I have to agree with most folks that I see more ways for this to go wrong than go right; for instance, i'm pretty sure the X-Box "Pacific Rim" game is going to probably use Kinect, if I had to guess.  Boo :(

Let me give you a hint: its going to suck

This is very dissapointing since this is a game with big robots, and I like big robots

Looking forward to the movie, not expecting anything from the game, could be pleasantly surprised, doubt it though

since this is guillermo del toro, shouldn't the game be called "pacific rim job?"

The movie doesn't look any good, and this game is certainly going to be the next piece of sh*t. But there are always people who will buy these movie tie-in games because they don't know what to buy. I saw Star Trek was on the chart last week.

I wonder if this will be a rare case of a film tie in not completely sucking. Pacific Rim actually looks good.

But the movie look like it will be awesome! *Rocket Punch!*

Oooh, I hope it'll be as good as the Star Trek game, because I can't wait to play another mediocre game where the main/only selling point is the license it draws inspiration from.

It's a fighter game judging from the screenshots, and you can customize the moves and parts of your robot. Let's hope they don't screw up. I wouldn't bet high on this one, though.

It is going to be typical movie licensed cash grab. Rent if you do not have anything else to play. I am sure loads of unaware going to buy this "movie licensed hit". Well done, I am going back to brilliant Tomb Raider etc etc.

An old college buddy of mine had a video tape in a plain brown box under his bed, that he'd bought on a trip to Thailand, and I'm pretty sure it was called Pacific Rim. Any relation?

Oh boy another movie based game. How original.......... Well lets see how this plays out. Might actually be good for a change but given the current track record of these kind of games it'll probably be crap.

Looks decent for a movie tie-in

Despite being a cheap tie-in, it could actually be fun. Grand-scale mech games are relatively rare, so this will be a great thing if done right.

If it plays like Robot Alchemic Drive, I'm in.

@xxxxTRISTAMxxxx Did you not have a childhood or something? Guillermo is making this movie to give homage to the Godzilla films and also anime that deal with giant monsters/giant robots. How could you not be excited for it? It's great that we can finally have some good big scale robot and alien movies that aren't terrible like Transformer or Battleship.

@KillzoneSnake all fighting games are bad.  Fun for the first 10 minutes... then just repetitive.

blackwingzero

@unreal101

That's very true. Mech games are kind of a rare breed. Not very common in the game's market.

DamnILoveGames

@KillzoneSnake That's clearly because you're not even trying to get good at it. If you're playing a game for 10 minutes then deciding it sucks I feel sorry for your lacking attention span.

@mr_azim @KillzoneSnake Dude what planet are you from? You say fighting games are repetitive but you have a generic fps avatar? I could just as easily say the same thing about shooting games. Fighting games and RTS games have the most longevity.

ZeroDivision

@mr_azim @KillzoneSnake I remember back in high school I started to get good at a fighting game I liked. I was excited for like a few days. After that I started wondering what I was doing with my life.
