Over 1 million have completed Halo 4 campaign

Microsoft reveals 1.12 million finished campaign in first five days, with just 6 percent finishing on Legendary.

While it took 343 Industries years to finish development on Halo 4, more than one million gamers needed less than a week to complete the game's campaign. Microsoft has divulged player statistics for Halo 4, revealing 1,116,882 players beat the game's campaign in the first five days. Of those, just six percent finished the story mode on the game's most difficult Legendary setting.

Earlier this week, Microsoft announced Halo 4 generated $220 million in five-day revenue, but did not share how many total game purchases that equaled. The data from Microsoft today suggests that number is around 4 million, as that is how many played Halo 4 on Xbox Live during the launch week.

Microsoft also said players racked up 4,590,416,285 total kills while connected to Xbox Live and unlocked 43,335,060 achievements. Additionally, gamers spent a total of 31.4 million hours playing Halo 4 during launch week, with 16 million of those hours logged in the game's War Games multiplayer mode.

The campaign takes 6-7 hours if that. I was actually surprised by how quickly it was over. It looks amazingly pretty, but that campaign is extremely short in the modern market. I'm actually genuinely disappointed in it as a result and just hope I can get my money's worth out of the multiplayer instead.

Over 1 million have played the same game that's been going on since Halo 1. Nice to see people enjoy repetition.

Beat it on Heroic across 2 days. It was pretty fun though a bit repetitive at certain points. I was disappointed that there were only 2 Promethean enemies. I'm just a little tired of the covenant.

Why is this a big deal? It isn't that hard and rather boring compared to the awesome CoD campaign.

i am playing the campaign still but only got the game earlier this week. halo campaigns are long its just that when you play the game you play it for hours so it makes them seem short because you really put the hours in to get through. i am playing on heroic with the intention of playing again on legendary.

Great game, just beat the campaign yesterday on Legendary. (Played Campaign and Multiplayer in between.) For people saying you don't get what you pay for, you're completely wrong. I've invested two days into the game. (no life lol) And i'm still playing it tons and don't see myself stopping any time soon. What 343's done to this game is amazing, and they get my vote any day. The campaign lasts about 8 hours for me, on legendary with two other friends. That didn't even include getting the mission specific achievements or me going back at the legendary solo achievement. That's going to end up being about 10+ hours in campaign alone. Then there is Spartan Ops which is updated weekly and the multiplayer that is better than any other Halo i've played. (All of  them) Really, there is TONS of value in this game, and I can't wait for the upcoming sequels and what Master Chief does next!

who thinks they should add in 1 more difficulty higher than legendary and 2x harder and call it something like...... Promethean difficulty, or maybe ancient difficulty!!! lol just a thought:)

HAHA Im one of the 6%.

People, if I can finish the campaign on legendary. Im sure more people can do it. Thirdmission was frustrating as hell, but then it got better, then it sucked, then better, then suck... just keep plowing through and trying different shit.

6%? really? wow... disappoint...

Just beat it solo on legendary! (second play-through, first was on normal for the story)Very satisfying- and like Halo 1, the third mission was the hardest- then you hit a groove and the rest doesn't seem so bad. Don't let those promethean knights scare you, you learn to deal with them. The good ol' plasma pistol/headshot combo works pretty well (even if you do need 3 headshots after the plasma shot), but saying as there are a bunch of difficult challenges with no covenant to steal pistols off of, become great friends with the auto-sentry, light rifle, scattershot and whenever you can grab one, Binary Rifle (I recommend saving the ammo in the Binary Rifle to  take out Watchers- it's a one hit kill on them and taking them out quick makes life way easier). It was a great time and I really recommend a legendary playthrough (especially to those complaining about the length)- the bonus ending this time around is incredible. It last maybe 6 frames and if you blink you'll miss it- but if you catch it, it will give you a chill. Good luck Spartans!

Nice to see 25% of people actually play campaign. Kinda pathetic though that only 6% of those people beat it on legendary. It really isn't that hard of a game, especially with friends.

Oh well, in this age of shooters, most people don't even play games for the single player. Explains why most people are very bland to play with online.

I can't imagine playing through Halo on the hardest difficulty the first time.  I always get around to it, but the first playthrough is always for the gameplay, experience, and story, not a challenge.

I try to take games slow and enjoy them and I beat it in 10 hours...looking at the textures...trying to read things on the consoles...shooting the wall so I could watch the reload animation.  ...What I'm trying to say is that the campaign is too short.

Slowly working my way through Legendary.   I'd like the single player to last a while.  Having a lot of fun with multiplayer in between campaign sessions.   It's the best Halo's multiplayer has ever felt.

How is that something to be proud of? A million people beat your game in less than five days. Screams rental all over the place. At least when I flop down 50-60 bucks for an rpg, I know I cant beat it in a couple of days.

How is this news? Anyone could beat any game in a day..

Lets see the percentage for people who beat legendary solo. Less then 1% I am sure. I plan on soloing one level per week on legendary so i can get the challenge bonus xp.

Completed the campaign on heroic to get on multi-player quicker.  I aim to go back to it though.

Where are the NS2 articles? That's an FPS that actually needs some media attention.

They are tearing through 343's new game's single player.

Legendary was that hard for me but Ive been playing the Halo games for a long time and completed all of them on Legendary by my self

So they are bragging that their single play campaign is too short/easy?  Way to go guys!

darkprince909
darkprince909

@GryphonICD Did you play it on Easy? The thing with Halo campaigns is unless you play on Legendary, it's far too easy (except Halo 2. Fuck Legendary on Halo 2.) It took me about 12 hours on Legendary, and while I never felt overwhelmed to the point where I'd think "I'm never gonna beat this," it was challenging the entire way through, and I enjoyed it immensely.

@jayjay444 Turn on some skulls. Thunderstorm alone will make you weep. Add in famine and you got yourself your next tier of difficulty.

@Eckkovoid I could probably do it but I don't have the patience. I hate dying and repeating myself.

@grey_fox1984 Nice work! I finished the campaign on Normal and Heroic (solo) and I've started a run on Legendary (solo as well).  I'm going to take my time with that setting. Patience is the key, hehe.

I agree that the Knights aren't so bad. The scattershot works like a charm on them.

Destrond

@realguitarhero5 Halo was a series that made me start playing any game I got on the hardest difficulty first, and assess after if i should drop it. Legendary was a challenge, and it added to the flavor of the game.

4 was pretty easy on legendary with more than one person, but alone, its insane, and definitely one of my favorite campaigns solo.

 @kiramasaki

then after u beat ur rpg then what? it sits there? once u beat halo or cod or pretty much any AAA shooter, you have multiplayer where millions sink many hours into not to mention other game modes like horde modes, and spartan (spec) ops stuff. plus having a corridor shooter's campaign last longer than 10 hours things become very repeatative.

JASAEric
JASAEric

@kiramasaki Multiplayer shooters aren't bought for their campaign, nor are they intended to be the main focus of the game.

RPGs are different, they are bought for their campaign, and that's why they are longer.

@Destrond  @realguitarhero5 I see a night and day distinction between solo legendary and co-op legendary- if you ask me legendary is the ONLY way to play on co-op. Solo legendary isn't for the squeamish, but the feeling of satisfaction you get when you beat it is incredible. I also love that the Halo legendary campaigns always fall into the "brutally difficult, but fair and at the end of the day, manageable" camp.

FedCom
FedCom

@Tseng Can you name a FPS campaign that can't be completed in half a day?

Tseng
Tseng

@Warful  @FedCom Of course it's good.  It could be an hour long and still be good.  The point is, there really is no excuse for not having at least 15 hours of gameplay in a single player campaign.  Plenty of companies give you both a decently long campaign as well as entertaining online play.  Honestly, with Halo you are paying for the name and the graphics more than anything else.  It might be fun, you might play multi-player for years, but as far as I am concerned the game isn't worth full price, but again that is because I play single player games and tend to stay away from multi-player.

Warful
Warful

@Tseng  @FedCom It is not my priorities, the market has become as such, I KNOW there are games that contain many more hours on that part, sadly however, a SP campaign nowadays has a length of 6 hours as general. I think Halo can pull off that length because it has a great MP part, and the campaigns usually always have a great epic feel to them, the content in em are just amazing! But of course I am annoyed that games can cost 60 bucks and only contain 6 hours of campaign and the rest is repetition of MP that is somewhat fun, but that's about it.  The market is devolving on the SP part sadly

Gothic-360
Gothic-360

@Tseng  @Warful  @FedCom the thing with FPS games is that campaing is NOT the main focus.. other games like skyrim, etc are long because after u finish them there's isnt much left to do..thats why they have to be long to be worth it.. but FPS are different they have fairly short campaing(that doesnt mean that the campaing is bad.. i think halo 4's is one of the best halos campaing though i have to agree it is short) apart from the campaing u have lots of stuff to unlock through side misions like spartan ops and multiplayer stuff

Tseng
Tseng

@Warful  @FedCom 7-10 hours IS short.  I can name a dozen other games that are 3 times longer for the same price.  Maybe not as pretty, and there might not be multi-player.  Just depends on your priorities I guess.

Warful
Warful

@Tseng  @FedCom and WHERE does it really say that the campaign is short, or it's shallow just because alot of people went through it "fast"? the campaign lasted 7-10 hours, that's more than the usual CoD campaigns, and others really, and no it wasn't shallow. And before you start finding an excuse for my argumentation, NO I am not a fanboy, I am a casual gamer.

Tseng
Tseng

@FedCom That's kind of the point.  The games that get the most hype are often shallow, and I think that is a shame.

FedCom
FedCom

@Tseng Just shows a bunch of people played through a popular game. Probably just to hype up the story aspect. I can't think of many games that could do much of a press release related to their "stories" modern warfighting is dime a dozen these days and the interesting games aren't really the super hyped ones.

Tseng
Tseng

@FedCom No, but I also can't name another company that thinks that is a good thing, or at least not one that does press releases about it.
