Origin Blocked in Myanmar, EA Working to Fix

Gamers in Myanmar ran into a problem recently with EA's digital PC platform, Origin. Namely, it didn't work at all. The good news is that EA is on the case, pledging to restore access to users in the country.

This came to light on Reddit recently, where someone in Myanmar reported they received an "Access Denied" message when trying to do anything through Origin. An EA support volunteer apparently said EA brought Origin down in Myanmar to comply with the US government's trade embargo on the nation.

On October 7, United States president Barack Obama ordered that economic sanctions on the country be lifted, so it's not exactly clear why Origin was blocked in the country. As the person on Reddit said, other digital platforms like Steam and GOG were unaffected.

In a statement to Polygon, EA explained that it is "working to restore access to Origin for our players in Myanmar." No reason for the block was provided, but EA apologized for it.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, and we'll share updates on timing as soon as possible," the publisher said.
