Operation Flashpoint: Red River deploying in April

Codemasters announces release date for realistic military sim; hitting April 26 in the US and April 21 in Europe.

The Operation Flashpoint series has been around for more than nine years, but publisher Codemasters has traditionally spaced out new releases over a number of years. There was a four-year gap between the launch of Cold War Crisis in 2001 and Elite in 2005, and then another four years between Dragon Rising in 2009.

Thankfully, fans of the series will have a shorter wait for the latest entry in the series, as Codemasters today confirmed that Red River will be arriving in stores worldwide in April. The game will launch on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on April 26 in the US, while it will land slightly earlier in Europe on April 21.

Codemasters has also issued more details about the game itself. The 10-mission campaign will be playable by up to four players in co-op, while a new Fireteam Engagements mode will present skirmishes for up to four players, including one where players face waves of enemies and another where they extract marines from a downed helicopter.

For more information on the game and to see the co-op gameplay in action, be sure to check out GameSpot's exclusive new preview of the game.

First time I can think of when the Brits gets a game before the States. Although don't expect me to be really high ranked in four days. It took me 16 months on Dragon Rising to get where I am, and I'm still a Captain!.... All worth while though. See you online. Join my rooms. I've got a solid connection.

I'll wait for user reviews on this one before deciding to purchase. I eagerly awaited the 1st one but ended up being frustrating and glitchy.

Does Ryan Balletto hate his job or what! And what's wrong with a tutorial? I'd take that anyday over the COD style of having people constantly screaming in your ear what to do. Just give me the training and let me figure it out myself for crying out loud!

This might be worth getting to keep me going untill Battlefield 3 is released!

I really hope they fix the competitive multiplayer with this game. It's nice having the additional AI teammates, but when they all spawn together in a large field and stand around waiting to be sniped, and their deaths count for just as many points as a real person's, it totally ruins the experience. It was more beneficial to just pick a sniping class and camp the AI spawn points to win games than it was to fight against the real opponents during the matches. It just was not fun.

Codemasters has truend Flashpoint into a shadow of its former self. Go and buy ArmA2 if you want a realistic military shooter.... FAR better game made by the people who made the first Operation Flashpoint (In fact, ArmA2 was going to be Operation Flashpoint 2 until BIS and Codemaster split).

The Red river team seem really focused on co-op and none of my friends are getting this game... I'm still getting it though

@ zazabar11 It actually aims towards some realism.

I really liked Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising but it seemed like no one ever played it so all I was able to do was play alone. Still I thought that it was a good to great game, so I am very interested in Operation Flashpoint: Red River.

I got the last one, was very dissapointed with the servers. Was laggy for months. Multiplayer gameplay was even more vanilla. But since they are focusing on the campaign it "might" be good. I will wait and see this time.
