Open-world Cabela's game out this year

Activision releasing Cabela's African Adventures on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and PC this fall.

Activision today announced Cabela's African Adventures, a story-driven open-world hunting game for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, and PC set to release this fall.

According to Activision community manager Dan Amrich, players will explore an open-world Africa and can wander on foot on in their vehicle, able to jump out whenever they wish.

In Cabela's African Adventures, players will hunt lions, leopards, rhinos, buffalo, and elements, among other animals.

No developer for Cabela's African Adventures was announced and a representative for Activision was not immediately available to comment.

The most recent entry in the series was 2012's Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013.

I dont understand why they dont make there games like they used to like Cabelas Dangerous Hunts on PS2 that game was realistic you actaully had to be stealthy and you could set up bait traps and camoflaged tents and you had to check the wind direction wasnt blowing your scent in the direction of the animal. For some reason they think that no one wants realism in a hunting game anymore.

Seriously? Does everything have to be open world now?

Tsk. I hate when the first words in a headline catch my interest only to be crushed as soon as I reach the third word

Main attraction of this game (open world hunting) is just a mini game in Red Dead Redemption.

How does one hunt the elements? Battling the elements,or hunting elephants?

since you can "wander on foot on in their vehicle" [sic] ,I'm guessing elephants :)

I read an article about a recent Cabela's game where it said that the people that design and make the game have never even hunted......  I think you could make a much better hunting game than these.  Something where you use trail cams and food plots and set up tree stands and blinds and stuff... you know.  It'd be using real hunting strategy rather than just running around and going "bang bang"

It's unfair if I compare it with hunting in Farcry 3. FC3 just hunting with instincts but Cabela gave us an experience about the real hunting.

I spent hours on previous Cabela, the world seems so big and far with only few animals on the map and the vehicle that run quite so slow. Cabela has a huge potential for hunting game ...

Say whatever you want but I spent countless hours on Cabela's Deer Hunt 2005, good times...

I've always wondered about how in the world the Cabela game series continues to survive. It doesn't seem like it has a massive fanbase, yet almost every year or so there's a new Cabela game. The Walking Dead Survival Instinct came out, I immediately thought "Cabela's Walking Dead Survival Instinct". That's how this series managed to ingrain itself to my brain without me even being able to play it.

I think it's time that I gave this series a chance. I just hope it won't be a boring shooting gallery. If it's open world, there's bound to be interesting stuff to do :D

I can't help but feel that this is in response to Total Biscuit's video of the last game earlier this year.

The only thing this game looks good at killing are braincells.  What mediocre rubbish.

Anything open world I find interesting, I just love the freedom of movement.  Can't tolerate corridor games with lots QTE's.

I remember there was an interesting partly-online hunting game doing the rounds on PC awhile back that looked fantastic. I think it was in Alpha or Beta. I wonder what ever happened to that? Cabela's games just end up being silly light-gun variants.

Wow, hunting endangered species. I've never played these types of games, but I guess these are the ones where you play the villain. At least if you were hunting/culling humans then you could pretend you were doing something good for the planet.

If they could get the IW team to make this actually good. I would play it. Other than that these games are horrible crash grabs geared toward rednecks with rifles.

I'm really surprised that this thing is still alive. Then again, i'm not fond of these types of games to begin with, so i'm probably just ignorant and not seeing the playable value.

Will it be a budget ($20.00)   release?  Sounds like it could be fun.  The game AFRIKA for the PS3 should have been.

Imagine a version of this with occulus rift support

For me, it's very weird to know hunting games have a lot of costumers...

The hunting in Red Dead Redemption is better than the entire Cabela's Franchise.

Anyone else notice that the screenshot is of a guy crapping himself as he is about to be trampled by charging water buffalo? Perhaps the animals do have more of a chance in an open-world environment.

@swantn5 How do you feel about, say, killing people? There're lots of popular games where you kill people.

@Adenosine They make money by costing next to nothing to produce.

I won't buy it because I know it'd just be another one of those games I bought on sale but won't ever actually play, but I have some vague memory of a open world Cabela's game on PS2 that was actually pretty fun.

Of course, back then, "pretty fun" was enough to interest me. It takes a lot more than that these days.

@jagcivtec You should try Resident Evil 6 then, not a QTE to be found, with tons of challenging puzzles and alternating paths to take! :D

@hadlee73 Its called the Hunter, and its doing quite well. It got a bit of popularity recently with a few famous youtubers doing a series on it.

@mikemaj82 yep. consoles take too much out of many games. pc exclusives on the other hand (strategy in particular) are awesome.

@Kooken58 @hadlee73 I checked it just now and yes, that's the game I was thinking of. It looks like a really great hunting title.
