The November 2013 NPD list of top-selling games in the US came out yesterday, and while Call of Duty and Battlefield 4 topped the overall lists, NBA 2K14 "was the best-selling sports video game on next generation consoles, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and was the number four best-selling next-gen game overall," according to the NPD.

Factoring in Xbox 360 and PS3, Madden NFL 25 has the edge, but 2K's basketball game beat it out on next-gen platforms. Neither specific sales numbers nor worldwide sales numbers were made available for either title.

In response to the sales numbers, SVP of basketball operations for 2K, Jason Argent, wrote "Earlier this year we promised that NBA 2K14 would be our biggest and best NBA 2K experience yet, and today we’re thrilled to see fans agree, as NBA 2K14 is now the number one selling sports game on next-gen consoles."

“NBA 2K14 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One distinguished itself by providing an entirely new experience designed specifically for next-gen platforms, featuring all-new game modes distinct from the current-gen version of NBA 2K14. We partnered with the King of Basketball, LeBron James, as our cover athlete and delivered an unprecedented level of realism, making NBA 2K14 a showcase for the potential of next-gen gaming."
