When Capcom announced Okami for the PlayStation 2 back in 2004, many gamers were eager to try out the action game. Nearly two years later, the game is still in development at Clover Studios, the same house that created Viewtiful Joe.

At last year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, the North American version of Okami was given the nebulous release window of "2006," and a Japanese release is scheduled for this spring. Capcom got a little more specific today, announcing that Okami will be released in the US in the third quarter of 2006.

Okami is a stylish action game based on Japanese folklore and presented in a traditional Japanese art style. Players will assume the role of Amaterasu, a sun god who takes the form of a wolf on Earth. Artistic ability isn't limited to Okami's graphics, as gamers will use the PS2's controller to perform "brush strokes" to battle enemies and solve puzzles.

Okami has not yet been rated and will retail for $49.99. For more info on the game, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
