Official Minecraft movie coming from Warner Bros

[UPDATE] The LEGO Movie producer Roy Lee on board to produce the live-action Minecraft movie.

[UPDATE] Deadline reports that The LEGO Movie producer Roy Lee will produce the live-action Minecraft movie alongside Jill Messick (Mean Girls).

The original story is below.

Looks like Warner Bros has been tapped to be working on a potential Minecraft movie. Creator Markus "Notch" Persson revealed the news on Twitter earlier today.

According to Notch's post on Twitter, an individual attempted to pre-emptively leak the news. The Minecraft creator followed up with, "I wanted to be the leak!"

The crowdfunding campaign for a Minecraft-inspired full-length feature film was recently shut down. Developer Mojang's End User License Agreement (EULA) for Minecraft specifies that users cannot "make commercial use of anything we've made" or "try to make money from anything we've made."

A documentary chronicling the development of Minecraft was produced by 2 Player Productions and released in December 2012. Other Minecraft licensing deals have included arrangements for various clothing, accessories, and toys.

Yes, because it's not enough that Gamespot so often has mentioned it, we need to see it mentioned in other places as well.

This will pale in comparison to Checkers: The Movie! I can't wait for that!!!

Its only my opinion and Im not saying you cant wait for this movie or like this idea, but for me its like how stupid is to make live action movie about minecraft? Dont say theres no better plots for movies anymore. Most of Minecraft players are like 10-14 y.o. So maybe they will find it great.

why do they always seem to choose the oddest properties to base a movie on? why not an elder scrolls movie or a fallout movie. gamers and casuals alike would flock to see those. everyone would be happy.

Minecraft this, Minecraft that. The game, however, is stale and boring for now.

Given the fact these guys managed to pull of 'The Lego Movie', to some extent, I'm not going to doubt this project as much as I would have.. Everything is awesome!

With a story as deep, rich and heartwarming as Minecraft's there's no way they would NOT make a movie out of it!

no wonder they shut those other people on kickstarter down...they wanted to make their own movie and make all the $$ themself.

@nintendo_police  They did just, in this very article, write that it is going to be a live action movie like the Lego movie.

@KimCheeWarriorX  I think it is because of the freedom for writers to develop the story for themselves, just using the mechanics or universe that has been created. Elder Scrolls and Fallout have such developed stories that people would know what to expect if they went to the theater. Properties like Lego and Minecraft don't have characters that have determined stories... it leaves plenty of room for writers to explore infinite amounts of stories without letting fans down.

@Techn1c4l It needs random alien encounters! Like flying square saucer attacks and alien camps.

A Lego movie seems viable when you consider the Toy Story saga. If this was a cartoon I might be able to see room for an imaginative concept. But a LIVE ACTION Minecraft movie? How is this going to make any sense? What kind of plot could there he? Even A Donkey Kong movie makes more sense.

@BelaidKL  Yeah, 'cept there's a lot of history behind LEGOs. I'm highly skeptical of this unfortunately.

@xeoneex66  Minecraft won't die for a very very very long time.

Ah, that is a good point; you are probably quite right about that. At the sametime, creating a new story that could fit in the flow of a universe and story thread like Farcry or Elder Scrolls.... well I suppose that would take a lot more effort for some. But, no way would that be impossible; its actually done for some movie franchises with success; different writers for each movie in the franchise...

@sandro123789 @xeoneex66 @HowlPendragon  bought it when it was first released.  Though the game right now is very minecraftish, it is far more even in its early beta state.  The devs even said the game is going to change drastically from what it is now to something much more complete.  I play this game every day, though I do get burnt if I play it for too long, a good break and i'm ready to continue.  Reminds me of my SNES days.

@xeoneex66 @HowlPendragon  I agree, it won't die for a while, but that new something seems to be starbound, I haven't played it yet, but it seems to be a minecraft-ish game on a universal scale, check it out
